BZZZZZZZ! Try again. By putting the Velo on that list you just dumped your credibility. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?
twnsnd replied to Perche61's topic in Gear and Rigging
How would I feel if my rigger smoked dope? I think I would have to kick my own ass. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.- -
And so did you aparently. Like diablopilot said "problems all around". Cool pictures though. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

So you actually have 600+ jumps -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

Try folding the tail across the center instead of toward the outside. Start with the inside right line, fold the material to the left across the center. Now fold the right inside line material to the left on top of the inner left. Continue to alternate in this fashion and finish with the stabilizers. It looks different, but it will help keep the brake lines to the inside and I promise that it will not negatively affect your opening. Wish I had pictures -We are the Swoophaters. That is the key my brother. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

Agreed, and my jump numbers are correct as well. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

I would edit this to say "the canopy will return to normal straight flight with no input" which is not always flat. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

Canopy Traffic, Obstacles and Decisions
twnsnd replied to StearmanR985's topic in Safety and Training
Apparently not. Did you just think it would be cool to do some crw on the crosswind leg? All I am saying is that it is all about planning ahead. Know that there will be a problem before it occurs. You admitted that you saw him before it became a problem, yet you let it become a problem. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.- -

What makes someone a good canopy pilot?
twnsnd replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Safety and Training
I don't just mean hitting the peas. I am also refering to being able to hit the gates safely on a regular basis. I know some people who can hit the gates, but they scare the shit out of me doing it. If someone on the ground was nervous or scared watching you approach and land, you need work. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.- -

Also accuracy, which I am not too good at. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.- -
Line twists after your under a good canopy

It's called a reserve. Feel free to use it. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.- -
You act like it's get ratings or quit. Just jump for fun like the majority of us. If you choose to make it the center of your life, you may find yourself burnt out on it anyway. Not everyone (almost nobody)gets to skydive as much as they want to. Just realize what it is, a weekend activity, nothing more unless you're sponsored. -We are the Swoophaters. You're right. That would have been my next point had I wanted to elaborate. I think that sometimes jumpers find themselves in a situation such as a downwind landing in which the skills to land the canopy are not there. Hence a fear induced slide-in landing. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

Wait, you LIKE him or you LIKE LIKE him. If you LIKE LIKE him, you may have to answer to Spizzzarko. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

I think there is a line to be drawn here. There are times when a PLF is appropriate and times when sliding is a better option. I personally think it has to do with speed. If have very little forward speed a PLF is a good idea. If you are "hauling the mail", however, I see sliding as a much safer alternative. I cannot see throwing myself onto my side when I am carrying a good bit of forward speed. You have the choice of keeping the damage confined to your lower body, or sharing the weath with it's entirety. JMO -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

Sounds like you have a good canopy and good technique. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

The only thing I would add is that the way PD does sliders on the Stilleto, sometimes looking into a larger slider is a good option. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

True. And you stated it well that you just have to find the trick that works for yours. What I do know is that after I started keeping control of the tail, I never got slammed again ON MY CANOPY. Peace. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-

I just wanted to add a personal opinion to this whole thing on posting progression. My progression up to this point has been fast, very fast. But you will never ever see me post it anywhere. One reason is that I already know what everyone's reaction would be so what is there to learn from it. However, my main gripe with this practice is that regardless of how much you say "I don't recomend this", or " I had no business". New jumpers are still going to see it as "It worked for them, it will work for me too" I think that it sets a bad example no matter how hard we try to label it a mistake. -We are the Swoophaters. ***Why does moving the peak force to a later time make for a softer opening? I really couldn't get in to the science of it, but basically once the canopy is out of the bag you begin to decelerate. The longer you can keep the nose from catching air, the slower you will be going when inflation occurs. Hence, when the canopy finally does snap open, you will feel less force due to slower speed. -We are the Swoophaters. We have travelled back in time to hate on your swoops.-
