4mph is the max end of the ideal uppers while the gondola is still on the ground and the envelope will enter the uppers. Compensation sometimes can be made with the launch crane truck depending on the direction. Take care, space

Not being a jerk i hope, but what if you changed the word "someone" to your "best friend"? A first aid responders task is to maintain the condition of the injured until med help gets there. Ahhhh, bro joe hit blunt object just now, got any green bottles? take care, space

Why does all that replied but me disregard Aspergers Syndrome as a most probable possibility? Are yall in the denial? take care, space

I think you are describing "Aspergers Syndrome". Loads of info on the intarweb. Check it out. My son (7yrs), can do intermediate math probs in his head but write simple math probs down on on paper and he his completely lost. If standard education doesnt address these not so rare anomalies, then it doesnt make them dumber, only less informed of their potentials. Take care, space

Who is Kate Middleton? Is she googleworthy? Take care while i try to find a career. space.

The flight of a throwout PC requires it to fly past the bridle inviting more of a chance of PC bridle entanglement. Outer handles increase this possibility. I and some other long time BASErs prefer no handle whatsoever on lower stowed jumps. Take care, space

are reserve toggles sewn to the risers?
base283 replied to virgin-burner's topic in Gear and Rigging
I just want to add this. If your reserve riser/toggle Velcro is getting worn out, It aint the Velcro that is the problem. take care, space -

Ummm, are you serious? Have you tried pulling them down? Take care, space -
Hi Couloirman, E thread or HB-69 as it is also known as is sufficient at its rated tensile strength of 4kg, the brake setting finger trapped loops take the stress of deployment and not the toggle loop. A bartack is used to hold the fingertrapped tail of the line in place so friction can hold the load. This means that the bartack doesnt take much load. Using the method I have below will give a sheared tensiled strength of around a hundred kg. The supertack wax thread is around 40kg and that is way too much overkill, unsightly and can hang up (the surgeons knot) somewhat in the guide ring on SU configs. There are 2 basic types of used in the parachute industry. One starts and stops at the end of the stitch line, the other, starts and stops in the middle. Both are started with a straight stitch and then zigzagged back to the start point. We will do the former. Here is how I do it by hand. *Thread the needle with a 2.5ft piece of E thread and tie the ends together with an overhand or fig 8 knot. (Note, the thread will be double) * start 1 and half inches away from where the line enters and sew a backstitch (6-8 spi) 1 inch towards the line entry point (stopping a half inch away). *Whipstitch (around the back stitch) back to the start point, *Tie a surgeon's knot and an extra locking knot on top of it. Tips, Make sure you know what a backstitch, whipstitch and surgeon's knot are. Dont use needles meant for leather. Take care, space

Where did you get this from? My older BASE rig has 450 jumps on it and the control lines are fine. (I am a rigger). I agree with the rest of your post mostly. Take care, space

URGENT....Apache owners, discontinue use of new handles

I dont think FAR Part 105 Section 43 applies to jumpers in Australia. take care, space -
I do think windchills that cold are a joke unless one is naked. Wind goes thru your clothing? Mine doesnt let that happen. Why would I jump summer clothes in the winter? So do you actually think your skin will freeze if the ambient temp is above freezing but the windchill is below whether the skin is exposed or not? It doesnt work that way. Dress for the lowest ambient temp and keep exposed skin to a minimum and you'll be ok.
-
Forget factoring in windchill factor. That is for exposed skin. Unless you are jumping nekkid. It is a useless factor unless you are the media and get paid to oversensationalize irrelevant data. Google the term and you will have an understanding of what it really means. Take care, space

I know what you mean. There was no one to hi 5 me when I beat my personal best. I forgot my times as it was a decade ago but they werent far off the World record. Take care, space

how old is too old?!? (buying a used reserve)
base283 replied to impossiblelove's topic in Gear and Rigging
It also depends on the country's laws in which you jump and are from. I did see that you mentioned "$" but not sure if that means you are from and jumping in the US. Take care, space -
Hi RH. I have done what you ask of me before you asked but pmwise. I hope you didnt expect any thing less from me. BASE parallels with skateboarding. It was cool. then prohibited, then skateboard parks sprung up. I tend to disagree with blanket statements which is what JR made. All blanket statements sux! ;-) We are sorting it out. Fill me in. I have no clue what you mean though I am the most experienced on what you post about (on this thread). Take care, space

That is what you wrote. I dont see any deviation from a statement between the starting capital letter and the period on the end. Please tell me how many BASE jumps you have seen or witnessed so I know where to start please. Also, please reread this statement I made.

"Okay, what percentage of BASE jumps is made from under, say, 1,500' agl, and what percentage above 1,500' agl? It is my impression that the large majority would be the "less than 1,500'" category." You made the blanket statement, not me. It is your responsibility to back it up. Not mine. Where did you get the impression (less than 1,500'") from if I may ask sir? "The 3,600' cliff I would certainly consider very high. I don't think that too many BASE jumpers have ready access to such cliffs. I would consider that an exception rather than the norm." I cant read in my post where I said it was 3600 ft high. "aLZgl" I said. "Feel free to straighten me out if I'm wrong. I'm open to learn. Give me some facts." Once again, you made the blanket statement, Not I. You have just stated that it was your impression also. It is your responsibility to give the facts. Not I. I am basically stating that you appear to have no idea and are making things up. This is in response to your blanket statement. "I said nothing about BASE jumping being illegal, as that wasn't relevant to the discussion." My apologies for lack of clarity. In my orignal draft I had stated that I wanted to address misconceptions. Then after some editing the lack of clarity snuck in and i didnt catch it. This is what i said "ALso I would like to state that BASE jumping is just as legal as Skydiving and Bicycling. It is a much more common misconception that it is illegal.". I didnt mean that your miscons included this one. My editing put it out of context. sorry bout that. But anyway, You made this statement "In a BASE jump you're already very close to where you're going to land, and you have very little time to maneuver before touch-down." I am now asking you to back it up with facts to maintain your your credibilty on this subject in this thread or stand up and be a man say "I have no facts about BASE and the blanket statement that I made." take care, space

Hello JohnRich, Please, a. Define an "average BASE jump". b. Define "particularly high cliffs" I dont want you to think that I am attacking your credibility. I want to address your misconceptions. For Example: I have seen Aerialists not track, deploy, and nail the target on the LZ (my folded up T-shirt). I have seen Trackers and Wingers do the same also. -------------- 3600ft aLZgl (thanks Martini for the clarification) exit 1.25mi away. Compare that to an accuracy comp jump agl exit and horizontal dist. One has no idea what represents what "the average BASE jump is" if one has not researched it throughly. Would you not agree that if "particularly high (to you) cliffs" is the norm (which is probably true), the statement you made would be very inaccurate? ALso I would like to state that BASE jumping is just as legal as Skydiving and Bicycling. That is a much more common misconception that it is illegal. I agree with your point that they are 2 different sports. I just didnt like the blanket statement you posted. Please post your source of knowledge rather than "I think" or "I believe" it to be so. Take care, space
-
Is that really true? I really didnt realize that while I watched from the LZ 2km away from the the 1100m aLZgl exit point. It just goes to show that one man's edge is another man's horizon. Take care, space

Thanks for the claification. I see now the point but was just misled by his example. Take care, space
