Well, rig plus jump suit... Who made it, who jumped it, when, and why didn't this idea seem to catch on? HW

If you have Photoshop, Image>Adjustments>Match Color and check the Neutralize box. That's what I did for the blue cast. Quick 'n' dirty. HW

or Barb Shalit, New England type, who became an Embraer Bandit pilot and fled to FL. HW

Very cool pictures. I notice you posted a high-resolution (300 dpi) image at a small size and very high .jpg compression. When you put them on Flickr keep the high resolution but make them bigger (8.5 x11"). They could use some Photoshop work; they all have a blue cast. I'm attaching a really quick 'n dirty example of how they can be better. There's a funny pattern of squares visible especially in the darker areas; I wonder what it is -- something on the back side of the print, maybe. Thanks for posting and I look forward to seeing more. Well, the Old Stuff pile has stirred again, and my Strato-Star manual has surfaced. It's stamped with Serial Number 2033, and someone has written on the cover "Gold, Black, Red 2 of 10." It's a very good manual. The canopy came with its own one-pin container. Para-Flite noted in the manual that the container "..is part of the Strato-Star deployment system. (Different containers also usable with the Strato-Star system will become available in the near future.)" I jumped it with a Strong Pop-Top reserve, which I used on my only (so far) high-speed malfunction, a spinning bag lock. Picture #1 is similar to one I posted earlier, but with callouts on the drawing. #2 is an interesting attempt to illustrate the dynamics of the reefed opening. #3 explains the dynamic stall. #4 and #5 are larger versions of the ones posted earlier, showing the stowing (and length) of the reefing lines. PAL -- Phase Altermating Line NTSC -- National Television System Committee Does that help? Sparing the details, different standards for TV broadcasting/recording. NTSC is used in North and Central America and parts of South America as well as Japan. PAL is widely used in Europe, most of Africa and Southeast Asia. A third major standard, SECAM, is used in France, Russia, and parts of South America. If your camera were PAL, it wouldn't play well with US TV. If you buy a PAL DVD or videotape (e.g. a skydiving video ordered online from Germany) it probably wouldn't play in your DVD player or VCR. Conversion software and hardware is readily available, but as the two standards differ in resolution and frame rate, conversion is imperfect. They were made in NTSC as well. I had one (long since broken) and still have the owner's manual for it. HW

Nah. "Piper Cubs." HW

Notice that the photo caption refers to a "rare" plane (as well as calling it a D-47.) I wouldn't have called C-47s rare. Bushmasters, maybe... HW

Concealed parachutes for movie stunts?

I'd add Jake Brake to the list of people who would know a lot about this. (No idea where he is these days.) HW -
You're right; it's a Meyers OTW-145, NC34322, built in 1942.The jumper is Jerry Thompson, a long-time Long Island,NY, jumper who owned the Bounty Inn and advertised it as a good place for skydivers to eat and drink. Presumably the jump is over Long Island Sound. The picture was taken by Jerry Irwin and was the centerfold in the November, 1977, Parachutist. According to various web sources, the Meyers OTW (Out to Win) was built as a military trainer, but relatively few were sold to the military because the metal fusilage was considered too difficult to maintain. The designer, Al Meyers, lived across the road from the Tecumseh, MI, airport until his death in 1976. HW

And the usual who, where, when. HW

Got a link or contact info? I've got some I might want to have recovered. HW -

If it happens to be an Energizer battery, I had a similar problem with mine. I found there's a "recall" relating to the Infolithium memory, and they sent me a new one, which works flawlessly. Details at http://www.energizerbatteries.com/faqs.asp?faqID=32&catID=1&subCatID=21&faqkeyword= (If it's not an Energizer, ignore this.) HW

Considering that (according to lots of web sources) only two Bushmasters were built and one of them -- maybe this one -- crashed in Fullerton, CA in September, 2004, it's unlikely that there will be many more pics like this one. HW

Screen grab from a TV show. HW

Prolly right. I don't remember seeing any all-white PCs advertised. HW

It's http://philroberson.com (No t). HW -
Hmm... I tried that on your PC9 (without telling you) and nothing happened. I guess I didn't hit it hard enough. HW

Well, as David has not responded, and before the source material goes back into the pile.... The picture is from DZ-USA Aprl '67 about a weekend at Xenia, OH. The canopy is a white PC, dubbed the "McElfish Special" by its owner, Gene Hunnell, who published the magazine. Hunnell writes: "I let Paul Fayard jump my 'McElfish Special'....It was his first jump on a PC and he looked good in the handling of the canopy." Here's another pic from the same issue, showing Jim West jumping another canopy. The picture will make Beatnik's heart beat a little faster. The magazine now goes back into the pile... HW

Bill I found it in the official program for a big meet at Z-Hills; I don't have it immediately at hand (which pile is it in?). The program was produced by AeroGraphics, so I assume it's something Mike Truffer had in his files. There is no photo credit or other identifying info in the program and Hoop does not know where it came from. HW
-
Well, as it's you: -What is the canopy and who owned it? -What other jumper, now well-known in the U.S. skydiving industry, jumped it the same weekend?
-
Only if you tell me who this is. HW
