  1. Arch. Don't try to swim because you'll just flail, roll over or spin. Of course I'm not qualified to tell you much more than that but I say most importantly: trust the arch. It'll put you belly down and keep you stable. Once you start progessing you'll see what the different inputs do a little at a time just I'm learning now. Blue skies!! edit: Definitely get some tunnel time if you can afford it because it is an AWESOME learning tool. De-arching to slow down and penciling out to track will come later but you can definitely see what how things work in a tunnel. (obviously I'm NOT saying learn to track in a wind tunnel. If any of you thought I was saying that for even a second you should slap yourself silly). _______________________________________
  2. Some of you are actually arguing about this? ....ok I like the choose your rigger wisely statement best of all. _______________________________________
  3. Nice shot Sangi, it was worth it to read the whole thread just to get to that!! Actually it was good to read all the other info too. I'm so ready to try a balloon jump first chance I get (ensuring I meet the requirements too). _______________________________________
  4. I second that!! You might find some of the info repetitive, as in you knew it or read it somewhere else, but you can't really go wrong with reading some of this stuff 2 or 3 times. Blue skies _______________________________________
  5. Thanks a LOT for posting that. I guess prices vary already anyway but it's just important to ask about a discount at the time, when you call or whatever. I'm glad to serve my country and I don't make a lot so every little discount or saving helps. _______________________________________
  6. Welcome to having fun!! There's a ton of good info here too. _______________________________________
  7. Welcome, welcome. There's actually a ton of good info here as you probably already know. _______________________________________
  8. Very cool.... _______________________________________
  9. Count me in!! _______________________________________
  10. Welcome!! Glad you came... To be honest I really wish there had been a program like that in my area because I would've been all over it. I personally feel like I could jump 10 to 20 times a day and be fine as long as I got my landings right. I say go for it though! _______________________________________
  11. That is cool man. I'd love to just recognize a celebrity somewhere, be able to just go up and say whassup and then find out that the person is just cool about it. Rock on with it man. _______________________________________
  12. Nice job on AFF. Nice to see other active duty service members jumping. I mean I'm active duty Army but I usually get along with all the other branches. Welcome to the forums!! _______________________________________
  13. Good luck on whatever you decide. _______________________________________
  14. The Skydivers Handbook by Dan Poynter ...lots of great info and it's a good read. Not too boring or technical and even though some of the information is repetitive (assuming you've read the SIM or the Safety section on this site) can you really go wrong by reading some of this stuff twice? I know I can't because my memory isn't what it used to be and the stuff you know could save your life. _______________________________________
  15. Ok cool, so with the newer designs the 7 cells aren't as different from 9s as they used to be. _______________________________________
  16. Yep, 7 cells definitely have less glide. They're used for accuracy a lot of times. Plus I'm pretty sure, but not positive, that an experienced skydiver using a 150 9 cell would want to use a 200 7 cell (for example). I'm hoping somebody will chime in with how accurate I am on that. _______________________________________
  17. I'm fresh off student status myself so I'm not giving advice: but from a quick search it looks like a Navigator is a 9 cell canopy but a Triathlon is a 7 cell. Somebody stop me if I'm wrong but don't the two designs differ greatly? In terms of square footage and how that compares to a jumpers wingloading I mean. Unless I'm wrong going from say, a 260 9 cell to a 230 7 cell would be a WAY different change than just downsizing 30 square feet on a 9 cell design. _______________________________________
  18. WELCOME!! Good job so far, just don't catch up and pass me!! ...ha ha. Just kidding of course. I can't jump nearly as much as I'd like to and a few people I know have passed me in jumps and in skill since I started but oh well, that's life I guess. If you haven't read it yet, the site has a ton of info in the Safety section and of course there's the SIM. It's not like reading an exciting book but it's a good to take what you can from it. 19. My girlfriend told me we needed to go because she hadn't been in a while so I was like cool, whatever. I had no intention of doing it again any time soon but I was immediately hooked after one jump and when I found out I could do the student program that was all she wrote. _______________________________________
  20. Ouch!! Isn't that about 210 lbs? Most people probably don't have a decent guess at that 100 kg would be though... _______________________________________
  21. You can say that again!! ...I'm always on the look out for something cool. JohnRich, were you serious about there being a little skydiver stamp thingy? _______________________________________
  22. Welcome to the forums and the art of skydiving ....and I think a bunch of like to say there's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. _______________________________________
  23. Making a little spandex thingy sounds like a good idea, if for no other reason than to be different. Plus I know when I had long hair I would wrap it up with a strip of a cut up t-shirt when I was on a motorbike to keep it from getting knotted all to hell. That made it lay flatter and stuff too _______________________________________
  24. They were very helpful!! Thanks... I knew there must be some way but for some reason I didn't think they'd just have people to talk to on the phone like that. That's pretty cool though! _______________________________________
  25. Hopefully this isn't the wrong place to ask this but: is there a way I can go on the USPA site and see about my license number. I heard there was a way... My DZO is on vacation and everybody is gone for bridge day. _______________________________________
