  2. http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/141520/how_the_ultra-rich_are_trying_to_kill_health_reform/ Smart 1%'ers invest in tax free muni's. They don't pay a dime of income tax on them under any plan, anytime. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  3. That's funny, Chuck. The funny part is that some may think you're joking. ................................................................... At risk of over-simplification ... that covers the basics. Far too many skydivers waste far too much time on cosmetic issues while ignoring important things like keeping brake lines on top. Important stuff: 1. Lines straight 2. brakes set 3. slider hard up against bottom skin 4. rubber bands tight 5. bridle routing 6. p/c cocked Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  4. That's funny, Chuck. The funny part is that some may think you're joking. Hey Pops! That's so true. Of course anyone who's watched me pack knows I'm not kidding. But as I always say, every pack job is a trash pack when it comes out of the bag! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  5. Conversation diversion detection meter pegged. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  6. He wants to. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  7. Do it the way I pack my Velo. Put the brake lines on top and shove that b*tch in the bag. Or maybe you should get instruction at the DZ. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  8. Hardly anyplace I know uses it anymore, but the most bulletproof exit in AFF is the (old) "Spaceland Exit". Reserve side door jams with his head while his butt is out of the plane (like floating, but holding yourself in the plane with the back of your neck/head). Student squats in the door, head up, facing the wingtip with their left foot forward, right foot back (to promote a belly into the wind exit). Main side is side-by-side with the student in the front third of the door. Student uses a rocking "out in arch" and exits toward the wingtip while trying to watch it (keeps the head up to promote an arch). This exit allows both instructors have both hands on the student at all times during the exit. It is also extremely easy to launch and nearly impossible for the student to funnel. It also gets rid of the cross-arm grip required for the floating reserve instructor exit. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  9. Maybe I wasn't clear enough for you, Bill. My point was that the guy IS an expert on polar bears, so I see no reason to doubt his 30 years of research, especially when he doesn't seem to have an agenda about his findings. However, he's NOT a climate expert, which tells me his thoughts are no more trustworthy than the general public's. The global warming thing is falling apart. That pesky temperature that refuses to rise keeps getting in the way. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  10. One thing you can bet on. The people who will assign your carbon credit limit won't know the first thing about jumping from planes. You can also expect the cost of skydiving to go through the roof because of the people assigning you those carbon credits will make damn sure you don't get as many as you need. That way they can charge you a carbon tax for the credits you actually use. That's the real purpose of cap and trade. It's a whole new way to get into your wallet and control you. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  11. Nope. The guy is a biologist. I doubt his views on global warming are from any independent research on his part. Assuming that's the case, he's just drinking the cool-aid on "AGW". Just because I agree with the guy on issues he really is an expert on doesn't mean I have to agree with him on everything else, or anything else for that matter. Nice try, though. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  12. Bingo! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  13. Given his resume, I see no reason to doubt his conclusions. This is a guy who has been on the ground focusing on nothing but polar bears for 30 years. I must also assume he is a polar bear advocate, so if the population really has been dwindling, one would think he would say so. IMO, the global warming crowd took the picture of the polar bear on the floating ice chunk and created a new "fact" with it to support their theories. The believers grabbed onto it (in part because the bear in question was so cute) and have swallowed the story ever since. First it was global warming. When the evidence of that started disagreeing with the theory, the cause was changed to "climate change". Unable to prove that, they have now gone to simply "green". A movement. Nothing more, nothing less. And it's all designed to take your money while making the lemmings feel good about themselves. Once again - repeat a lie long enough and it becomes the truth....for those not willing or able to see the lie for what it is - a lie. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  14. I wasn't surprised to see only 7 links on google news when I searched for "polar bear expert barred". After all, this isn't something the global warming loving media wants to hear. A couple articles linked. This has guy has studied polar bear populations for 30 years. I'm thinking that makes him an "expert". http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/5664069/Polar-bear-expert-barred-by-global-warmists.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,529493,00.html Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  15. Did that DZ happen to be in Indiana? We had one in the back of the 206 at Parachutes and Associates. Just curious. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  16. That's the most clever "poor economy" marketing ploy I've seen, including all the lame attempts I see on TV these days. I'd say you have a future in advertising! To skydivers, anyway. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  17. There was a fatality in the past few years when someone who had used a shoe lace for a pack job had the plastic tip (the "aglet") come off the shoe lace and get jammed in the closing loop. Horseshoe malfuntion was the end result. Ya might wanna attend safety day next time around. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  18. Apparently posting a thank you is the same as the event announcement as far as a moderator is concerned, so here's a re-post for your reading pleasure. I don't get how I was wasting bandwidth with a new thread but somehow I'm not by posting here. Just a quick note to say what a great time I had at my first SkyFest. I had the pleasure of being an RW organizer for this 9th year of the event. I had to leave on short notice and couldn't say goodbye, so here we go. Everyone from the front office folks for Skyfest to the manifestors and pilots that chugged away in the heat get a big hats off here. Running the show is pretty thankless at times, and the SkyFest and Raeford teams deserve credit for keeping everything running smoothly in spite of the usual problems along the way. J Schrimsher deserves kudos for keeping his eye on the ball. All week long, conversations with J would eventually return to the young jumper and the core purpose of SkyFest. That kind of dedication is lost in much of the skydiving industry these days. Keep it up, J. I'll gladly organize for you again next year if you'll have me. To the Knights and 82nd Airborne demo teams - thanks for showing us a bit of what goes on in your world. It was fun watching you do your thing and sharing ideas. And I must admit, following two Knights last out on a 16-way will make you work for your supper. And to everyone that I had the pleasure of jumping with - thank you, thank you, thank you!! You were all so patient and focused on having a good time that it made organizing a boatload of fun! To Chuck Bryan and Scott Smith - thanks for the video work. Your contributions can not be overstated. And to the low timers on the loads, congrats!! I was pretty amazed how good y'all were and how well you handled bigger skydives. It was a true honor to have had the opportunity to play with all of you in the air. I hope to see everyone next year. Thanks for showing me how special SkyFest is. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

  20. wow....that sounded alot like I'll gladly buy! I haven't been to Raeford since 1987, so it's going to be fun to get back there. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  21. So, uh, what exactly is a TeXXas 20-way? im guessing by the spelling of Texas.....its a formation shaped like...... XX TeXXas 20-way started as a competition hosted by Houston jumpers Laird Cogburn and Madolyn Murdock back in the 80's. It got pretty big at one point. I remember one year there were 9 teams, including teams from Florida and California. Texas is spelled that way because they made a patch given to people who had completed a Texas Star for the first time. The patch is just the word TeXXas, with the two XX's making the roman number 20. Here in Houston, 20-ways were also something like SCR's, socially speaking. It was kind of "a thing" to put a 20-way together for a 20-way virgin, a Texas Star, of course. They were popular sunset loads. As for the shape of a Texas star, it's a 5-way round base, 5 2-way zipper clusters on the base, and 5 tails that close up the zippers. It looks like a 5-pointed star. "TeXXas 20-ways" for Skyfest are simple, fun 20-ways. The focus is on do-able skydives, having fun, and exploiting talent. And by the way, all qualified are invited to play. All day Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Looks like we'll have video too. Let's boogie! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  22. Chuck - I'll get that document back to you before Friday. I promise. Kevin - I tow a camper and like to my comfortable chairs, shade, grill, cooler, music, etc. Hence the size of the pile. Oh yea and my wading pool.
  23. I would have no problem treating McVeigh like an enemy combatant. Setting off a monster bomb on US soil with the intend of killing innocent people is an act of war and should be treated like one. Not that it matters in the context of this reply, but Timothy McVeigh wasn't part of an organized global army. He was a loner nutjob. The people we waterboarded were soldiers whose nation is Radical Islam and whose war is Jihad. They are truly soldiers of a foreign force and are absolutely committed to our destruction. And contrary to your post, I'm not "so afraid" of them. The destruction they are capable of has been made clear and their intent has been well announced. I'm just observing the obvious. Or did you miss that on the network news? Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  24. Hey Vidiots, I'm organizing 20-ways at Skyfest and would like to have camera if available. If anyone is planning on attending and is interested, please PM me. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
