  1. That is some amazing work on the part of cypres. Glad I bought a C2 and not the Vigil or that other one.. argus? Keep it up Cypres!!!
  2. First tandem was nerve-wracking, leg was shaking on the plane on the way up. Everything since was fine, when I did aff as a student I felt great. Depends on what you're doing.
  3. This is what the owners manual says: "Setting the brakes: Your Wings harness is equipped with a unique velcro-less toggle system which facilitates complete stowage of excess steering line. Pull the control line down until the brake loop just passes through the guide ring. Insert the toggle through the brake loop and into the upper stow pocket on the riser. Fold the excess control line and insert it into the lower toggle pocket. Insert the toggle into the lower pocket on top of the excess control line." So it says to stow the excess brake line in the lower pocket underneath the toggle? I agree you could get your finger stuck in there.
  4. I saw this thread here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=994294;search_string=wings%20brake%20stow;#994294 which says to stow it under the bottom toggle keeper. Plan is to take a look at my rig tomorrow to see if this would work.. I think the wings risers have changed since that thread ^ in 2004.
  5. I recently bought a new Wings container, and I've been having a problem stowing the excess brake line. When I try to put the excess brake line through the elasticized nylon band that's sewn onto the risers, it often frays as it is really hard to push through there. Does anyone know an easier way to stow the excess line? The problem is the steering line gets wider when I push it though, causing it to fray. Has anyone used a rubber band put through the normal elastic keeper to stow the excess line instead? Thanks!
  6. Just a thought: If he won't give you the SN's I would consider backing away. JerryBaumchen Not won't, just didn't list them. I'll ask.
  7. Hi, I'm looking at gear I'd like to buy in the classified section, and need some suggestions about making the transaction. I don't want to send all the money up front and have been asking to do the transaction through a rigger... is this the norm? I don't want to send 100% up front in this case (seller with 0 posts, no serial numbers of parachute). Suggestions?
  8. I guess I was trying to save the cost of having the reserve assembled and packed if I'm gona have to send it back to the factory
  9. Right, thats what I found too. So I'm thinking the fit of the leg straps won't change.
  10. Is it true that you can't tell if the leg straps on a rig will fit before you pack the main and reserve in it? Right now the leg pads overlap about 1" when they're tightened... and there is about 13 inches of extra strap to tuck in.
  11. I dont think that belongs on here.. im new but I saw a news show about skyride, they sold people coupons and sent them to non-existant dropzones
  12. When I bought my wings container I made a deposit, then paid the balance when it was ready to be shipped.
  13. Yep! Although I have a particular dislike for UPS based on not having a single good experience
  14. I was actually thinking about going down to get it, if you go for 7 days to the US you can get a $750 personal exemption on items broght back, which lessens the blow a bit. As for insurance, yes you need to declare the full value. But here is a good quote about insurance which is very true based on my experience: "Think of it more like this. You pay for the insurance, they lose the package, and then they give you the runaround until you get tired of asking about it. They win, you lose."
  15. Agreed, UPS and Fedex charge outrageous fees just for passing through customs. The USPS brokerage fee is $8. It is getting ridiculous though... so many fees and taxes.. about $600 in shipping, taxes, and fees on top of a container and reserve. In the future I would tell everyone to buy everything used and buy locally. I do maybe 100 packages to Canada a year. If any of my customers were ever to pay even close to $600 in postage/taxes on a package, I think I would be getting some seriously nasty phone calls. Perhaps I should revamp my biz model to get more revenue... Well, if you don't label the box saying its worth 3k you won't get charged as much tax. Postage from Florida was more than 100 bucks.. all these things add up.

  17. Thanks for the replies all. I found out from customs that I can get the tax refunded if I send it back. I'm more worried about the damage.. so I'm going to open it at the post office and see if it's okay. I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff so obviously there is a lot for me to learn here. I forgot to say there's a PD reserve in there, unassembled. I figure if the reserve is wet I probably don't want to accept it. Unfortunately Sunrise MFG is closed till July 5 since they went on holiday this week (and told me they were going to have a holiday ages ago). Wings is a great company and I have nothing but good things to say about them so far, they were very easy to deal with and did everything super quick. As usual its the shipping company that's to blame. thanks again for the help
  18. I have to go get the box from the post office.. i havent paid the tax yet because I'm still deciding if I want to send it back. I think I felt a plastic bag through the hole in the box... hopefully it will not be punctured. but it DID say that border services opened it...
  19. I don't know whether to be angry with Sunrise Mfg (Wings) or USPS for leaving it in water and crushing the box
  20. Hey all, I just had my new wings rig delivered, which I had shipped with USPS express mail international (I live in Canada). It arrived with a huge dent in the side of the box, and looks like part of it was WET for an extended period of time . Needless to say I am complely furious, and on top of that they want tax on the damaged rig. There's no way I'm going to pay anything till I have it inspected to see if it's in proper condition. Anyone have advice on this situation?? Thanks a ton!
  21. Uh okay. I also read that the neon colors fade faster than the other ones, any truth to this?
  22. I'm looking at ordering a new Wings container, possibly incorporating royal blue, navy, medium blue, and neon green. Does anyone have any pictures of the wings fabric colors (cordura) I can compare? I've been using the wings designer program but I think the colors would look different in real life. Thanks!!
  23. Hi y'all, This is my first post on dropzone. I'm new to this sport, about 1 year in, 15 jumps and an hour of tunnel time. I'm looking at some used gear and would like to know - what is the lifetime of a main canopy before it's worn out (in jump numbers or ?). Also, how many jumps before a re-line? cheers!
