  1. Cypress need the checkup like a reserve needs a repack; it's probably still fine, but it's much better to check everything out and be sure it still works like you want. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  2. So why not learn to skydive on your side of the pond? "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  3. I was on anti-depressants when I started skydiving, did AFF right away, no issues, I did mention it to my doctor if i recall but no issues. Thanks to this sport I no longer need them
  4. We have Vector SEs with Navigators, Just got them last season, before that we had some old blue ripcord based rig with Mantas. Our rental and coach student gear is Vector3s with Sabre2s. I personally disagree with the Sabre2s, and think that something more like a Pilot is a better choice for new jumpers based on my experience as a poor canopy student. 5. At my DZ in Wisconsin Rugged Wear ( logo is an RW, I think thats right), with a leather sole and latex under that is fairly popular. In the winter I have a pair of spandexy liners and some $10 leather gloves from walgreens. The thing is you want to make sure you are comfortable grabbing the handles on the ground, if you feel okay feeling and grabbing through them, thats your choice. in spring/fall i just wear a medium pair of work gloves. 6. I'm sorry if I brought any unwanted attention to the situation, I was just curious what others with more experience than I had to say, so I wouldn't say I was "whining and sniveling". "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZkC56jA2HI My initial thoughts were: This is not awesome, you are not supposed to deploy a drogue at terminal, and I doubt the harness is designed for that either. Apparently the kid had a lot of tunnel time, this was at some dz in Spain "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  8. Are there any large amount of people who really have bad things to say about PD? I have heard horror stories about some older sabre1's that had terribad openings, and some insist PD is overpriced and no better. But is there any reason people legit don't like them? 9. It looks like it could have been made using this site: http://www.wordle.net/ that or it was done by hand in illustrator or some other adobe product I'd guess. EDIT: Tip, to enlarge import to Illustrator and convert it to a vector image, then enlarge it as much as you want with out loosing quality. EDIT2: after about 45 min dicking around in illustrator and photoshop, I've decided it would be easiest to just go over it in new text rather than sharpen the image. or get a higher resolution from whatever the source is. 10. I have an older Sunnto vector I got used, reads the same as all the "skydivng" altimeters, sounds like yours might be defective. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  11. It is required on every phone but you can turn it off. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  12. Keep going, it only gets better. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  13. For a lot of people phyco packing is easier and I have yet to hear any real reason to propack instead, I'm sort of sick of people getting on here and insisting that your doing it wrong and you need to learn to pack the "real way" "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  14. Hey! thats me. But I knew ahead of time that it needed mods, my rigger, added a BOC, and proper bridal protection, and a cypress pouch. So, a 1991 vector 2 can be a great starter rig if you know whats wrong with it and what work it needs. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  15. Funny you should say that, on a rainy day in the fall all our packers went to walmart and ended up spending $150 or something on nerf guns and the packing shed was a war-zone for the weekend. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  16. The riser flaps on vector3's suck if they are not magnetic. also the flaps that go from the center out are sorta awkward. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  17. Is there any real reason they don't make all canopies out of this, the same for colored attachments points that the Pilot has, they make pro-packing (and phyco packing) much easier and I've heard of people doing it themselves if they are newer. I the discontinued Hornet, so mine has both "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  18. I got to demo one the other day.. I'll get one when they're ready (was an issue with face shields) I'm also interested in this new AAD... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jK9c1wvO9k "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  19. I've seen someone with a second hand sabre1 from the golden knights which has tiny holes which spell out ARMY on one of the cells. So I'd say they probably sew it on. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  20. I had this issue too, I started more carefully and tightly folding it into 3rds and using my arm to fold over, it makes my phyco-packs much more neat. your mileage may vary, I am by no means an expert. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  21. Saw this picture on someones Facebook from what I assume is the DZO conference, less info that what is on the website other than being able to make out the activation altitude at the bottom (1475ft). http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/183434_10150095762712298_775737297_6021334_2142716_n.jpg "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  22. I know a tandem instructor who has been in the sport around 20 years, he was telling me about ten years ago the drop zone he was working at at the time wanted to start advertising as the only drop zone in that metro area which drug tested all of their staff, and they put this guy in charge. Well so he would go around every few weeks and randomly draw out some of the instructors and ask for their pee, and there were a few which always said that they couldn't take the test that week. When he confronted the DZO about it he was told to let it go. TL;DR- Random drug testing is not always random, its a nice idea until you have to fire someone you don't want to. 23. I've been hooked for over a year and it drives me nuts. I mean how could you NOT want to jump out of a plane, I don't get it. Everyone has flying dreams (yes?), why wouldn't you want to come close to that? I guess its the same thing with them, they wonder why you would want to, you wonder why they wouldn't. But I REALLY don't get it, just thinking of skydiving makes me all giddier than touching a boob when I was in middle school. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  24. It varies a lot, one of the guys I do 2 way RW drills with some times can keep up with a slower sit on his belly but we go about 110 together, so there is an example of the wide range of speeds. "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
  25. One of the people who has bought beer on my behalf before is actually a cop now, thanks for the reminder. Actually, I did my water training with him and another cop and we were all drinking on the boat... "Do you really want to take advice from the guy we call Tarmac?"
