I don’t see it as media hype. I watched the debate and it was shocking, no spin needed. You can argue that the president is a figure head and irrelevant and that may or may not be true. If those 2 are the best the USA has to offer then it is a sad state of affairs indeed. A leader should inspire the nation (or business), neither are able to do that. Being ‘nice’, doesn’t make you capable and sadly in the same way as sports people age out of the game, so do politicians.

I get people supporting Biden. I don’t get people like you who support Trump. He’s an unscrupulous self serving liar, rapist and convicted felon.
-
Something I enjoy about the US is the ability to poke fun at politicians. Some of the talk show hosts analysis of the debate has been hilarious. ”I’m not saying Biden shit the bed last night, but his new code name from the secret service is Amber Heard.’ Has got to be one of the funniest I’ve heard. I said it ages ago, I believe Trump is going to win against Biden. I feel sorry for my American friends who will have to live through that nightmare though.
-
The biggest concern about Biden has persistently been his age. I’m listening to the post spin talks about how you elect an administration not a person and tacitly acknowledging that Biden appears to be, or is weak. Just because he’s a nice guy, doesn’t mean he deserves the job. He deserves respect and acknowledgement for all the good things he’s done. But a great leader knows when it’s time to hand over the leadership.

Hi Jerry, I agree. David Pakman just did his analysis and basically summed up saying people need to remember they are voting for the administration and not the man, when they are voting for Biden. I think the honourable thing for Biden to do would be to throw his support behind someone else and give them his blessing. If he doesn’t I suspect my prediction from a few months ago holds true and Trump will win.

Honestly watching the debate the US has two truly awful choices. Biden looks and sounds terrible, I feel incredibly sorry for him. Trump is simply a liar and has so far had no policy or substance.

Really enjoy Sia

Reading those stories and how the US used a fake vaccine program to get information on Bin Laden, the rise of conspiracy theories around covid make a lot more sense. When the US has weaponised medicine, you can be sure they aren’t the only ones. It’s harder and harder to find quality and verifiable Information. News and Media companies used to have to comply with standards, social media companies don’t and it has opened the floodgates for disinformation. Not to say the media companies are always truthful- but they could be held accountable.

This is disgraceful and disgusting. This is a large part of why I struggle to ever accept the US as having any sort of moral high ground when it comes to disinformation and propaganda. https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-covid-propaganda/

What a joke this all is. It’s unbelievable that he is still a serious candidate. CEO’s and employees who have drama in their lives routinely step down or step aside to deal with their personal lives. Sometimes it isn’t even about being right or wrong, but simply the capacity to do your job. -

Sadly many countries have different rules for the rich and famous. I doubt many countries will deny him access -

A very good outcome!. Sadly being rich and white he won’t go to prison. -
I think there are a few good reasons not to vote for him. I think his age is a major concern, as an example. I don’t think people should be criticised for not voting based on their conviction that neither candidate is suitable. There isn’t an option to vote no. I get the argument that not voting potentially helps Trump, but similarly voting for Biden gives him more of a mandate, which a moderate might not want to do.

I’ve been an iPhone user for about 6-7 years now. iPhones are great if you just want simplicity and a consistent user interface. Androids tend to be more flexible and customisable. You pay a premium for Apple, largely due to packaging and brand rather than quality. Wireless performance is not as good as some other brands (I travel to remote areas of Australia and generally iPhones lose coverage before Samsung for example). Until recently they were also terrible for breaking when dropped - I have no idea how they passed the EU certification process that includes drop tests, but my iPhone 14 mini survived a few years without an issue. I’ve had an 15 pro for a week and may take it back to the shop as the sound is terrible- thought it was distortion on a specific video clip, but it turns out that most videos are distorted at about 20% volume and upwards.

Agreed, to think I joined dz.com in 1999 in my mid twenties.

I’m curious to see the age group that is most active. I know many familiar names have been here for over 20 years

I know there is financial pressure for both parents to work, but I do think kids lose a lot of emotional bonding as a result.
-
I disagree. When you include kids, there is a lot that tech can’t do. I’m a firm advocate of one parent taking on the role of homemaker till somewhere between 7 and 16.

I think this goes to the heart of what I think is the issue with dissatisfaction or distrust of politicians. One set of rules for the people and they happily feed at the trough. It might be legal, but it isn’t moral.

Thanks Jakee, that sums up what I have been getting at perfectly. Incidentally, remember the Duck house incident?

Speaker Johnson giving a press conference outside of Trumps trial today. America the land with a judiciary separate from politics is a thing of the past. Never mind the Supreme courts political actions of late. From Fox News “It’s a remarkable, if not unprecedented, moment in modern American politics to have the powerful House speaker, a constitutional officer, turn his political party against the U.S. system and rule of law by declaring a trial illegitimate” I’m not sure the US will ever regain its moral high ground after the Trump era ends. I don’t know if Trump broke the system, or simply exposed a broken system. Regardless, he appears to have done a great job of it. I never thought a first world country would have a diaper wearing lunatic as a serious contender for President. -
Truly corrupt I wouldn’t know, although there is a remarkably high number over the years who have been caught. However, entitled and disconnected from Joe Average would tend to be a significant proportion.

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/4Biee3txq8ZPwQQ8/?mibextid=xCPwDs It struck me that Stewie is dressed like Trump. The clip suddenly took on a whole new meaning!

I didn’t say that the average voter wasn’t dumb! Trump calls out the system, the fact that he would tear it down to replace himself as King and cares nothing for Joe Average is a blatant expression of what many politicians appear to aspire to - they just aren’t quite as transparent. I’m not sure if irony is the right word for it, but seeing support for Trump based on distrust of corrupt politicians is certainly confronting.
