  1. I didn't say he did. Matt Well, refusing to condone homosexual behavior and then calling it sin often tends to be viewed as hate. There is no question about it...the bible is very offensive to those who love their sin and refuse to repent. Well I sure hope you don't eat bacon or cheeseburgers. 2. You have got to be kidding. Just think what you will be able to appreciate a 50 jumps. Sparky I can see that it is poorly worded but I read it differently to you. How I understood it "I have begun to appreciate that there is a great breadth to a canopy's performance envelop, that few master or explore" I don't see a problem with that as a statement. It's not saying that HE has the skills to explore the envelop. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  3. If you don't have fun on a 170 for quite a lot of jumps then you aren't learning to fly it. Last weekend I did canopy coaching and the coach was pointing out poor canopy flight technique to someone with 8000 jumps! The problem will be finding a good canopy flight mentor. Also don't buy new, I realise you haven't said you are. Used gear in the 190 range sells like hotcakes and you rarely lose money. There's no problem buying the gear for 50 to 100 jumps then moving on. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  5. I have and there is, but it's a big (and expensive) commitment. I'm exploring the possibility, though. And the best part is: You will be able to kick Squeak in the nuts in person! What better incentive is there than THAT?? She'll discover squeaks dirty little secret, that for all his gruffnes on here he's a really good guy. 6. If you like sunshine and moving around, look at whether there is a shortage of bean counters in Oz! Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  7. I think that UV stabilized clear PVC sheeting/film might be the right thing. It stays flexible down to -20C approximately and is long lasting. I'm thinking of the kind of stuff used for tent windows or on some boats. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  8. Being the reason someone else dies is probably top of my list. Second would be serious disability that made me incapable of living life without some degree of pleasure. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  9. There is a 60 day currency requirement for an A license, after which you need a recurrency jumpunder the supervision of an instructor. The specific requirements for recurrence are at the discretion of the dz. You probably already know it, but to get a B license now, you need to do a canopy course. With your number of jumps, I'd suggest making a plan to combine getting recurrent with getting your C or D license. 10. Given the statement that a container that normally houses a 170sq ft system has a close to 300sq ft system in it, what are the options? - No reserve, just a large main - Large main and tiny reserve - large reserve and tiny main I don't see what is so crazy about suggesting that it 'might' be option 1. There are enough people in the sport willing to put themselves first and worry about the consequences for others as an afterthought. 11. It sounds like he is trying to come up with a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Sparky I hope it isn't a 'disguised' base rig with no reserve, giving the larger main size. It would be really shit to sneak a non tso single canopy system onto a plane and then bounce. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. This weekend a guy had his reserve deploy as he dumped his main. He didn't know exactly what happened, so no more details available. I just helped him find his freebag. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    Biggest Fears

Spider web is something that turns you into a ninja. In pretty scared of dogs, and terrified of public speaking ( found the last one out opening a technology conference in front of 200 people. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  14. Yesterday I learn't a WHOLE bundle about how to fly a canopy. A local jumper who has been the national swooping champ ran a small course for a handful of us. It didn't follow a prescribed agenda, Cam just spent significant time debriefing each of us, videoing landings and working on weak points. Watching your landing on video at 1/10th speed reply for the last 100ft with a running commentary on everything, is a major eye opener. It is well worth doing - and I've already committed to the next session that he holds. A couple of other events from the weekend, first time being the 'up jumper' on the load. Even though we are all licensed and there is no 'jump master' at our DZ, it was a slightly odd feeling. I discovered that 3 jumpers in a C182 is very comfortable! "They are good-looking, dress well and are nice before they get in the taxi but, when they do, they are different. WTF - There are 2 of them!! 16. Peter, One idea is to start jumping the cutaway/chin cup camera helmet now with no camera fitted. It helps to get used to the helmet/cutaway system so that it is not something else 'new'. Also use the jumping with the helmet cutaway to practise/think through the revised cutaway procedures. If you don't have an audible it is a good idea to add that to the mix now as well and get used to it. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  17. I'm guessing the turn out varied by location. Bill probably passed a Chick-Fil-A in San Diego. My guess is there probably wasn't as much support there as in your city. BTW, "Chick-Fil-A", doesn't that sound at least a little bit like lesbian having fun with a dildo? That is classic Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    drugs!!

So why didn't you believe him that it was just coriander for his mom? Funniest two encounters I ever had involving drugs. - lecturer at college and I used to alternate cooking, because we both were single, lived alone and enjoyed food. Chris used to use marijuana (dhagga in the local lingo) in stews and curries. One Friday evening, curry night and a bit generous with the herbs and the local priest dropped in to visit Chris unexpectedly. Priest stayed for dinner and we all went to midnight mass Chris felt really bad, priest was really missed off. - very religious friends of my wife invited us around to dinner (pizza). They had just got back from South Africa and were really pleased with the unusual 'herb' they picked up at the market. I didn't have the heart to tell them what it was as they liberally sprinkled it on their pizza. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  19. Good luck. Speak to someone knowledgeable about your asthma if you haven't already. I only recently discovered the magic of ventolin, couple of puffs before I jump and it totally clears me up. I think you're making the right decision, overweight and jumping don't go well together, the risk of a landing injury is higher. drugs!!

Woosh - this thread went in a different direction to the OP quickly Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  21. Actually there is a what you should study page that summarises it all. In the 2011 version it was towards the back. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  22. If you just want to play and learn don't wipe windows totally. Your productivity will dive and you'll get very frustrated (unless your a geek type and are happy to spend all your time screwing around). The good thing about Linux is it will run on a machine that is incapable of supporting Windows, so if you've got an old laptop lying around, or pick one up off Craigslist. drugs!!

It took me until I was 35 and started hanging around skydivers. 12 or 13 for me It sucks that kids that young are exposed to drugs. Like skymama it was skydivers that exposed me Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  24. A couple of thoughts. If you are really keen to jump skip the tandem and go straight into a first jump course. I did static line as a 16 year old kid and certainly couldn't afford to jump regularly (AFF wasn't an option for me anyway). The 2 really big advantages of static line are per jump cost, and being able to jump when there is cloud that would prevent AFF. Cloud depends on your local geography. The lower cost per jump comes into play if you don't have the finance to hit the training quickly. Given the choice I would do AFF over a period of 2 or 3 consecutive weekends and then slow the pace to match finances. drugs!!

This morning my 12 year old was describing how to make a bong. Growing up in a different world to me... It took me till I was about 18 to come across drugs. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
