  1. Well, at least I have my Saturdays back to myself. I was just made part of the Chicago Historical Society's "forced reduction." I dunno why they have to give it a different euphemism in the not-for-profit sector. Anyone got a job for a former Rights & Licensing Assistant in Chicago? _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  2. For those of you who think it would hurt...have you guys not heard of LUBE?! A bit of "foreplay" is often required, as well. Just bend over and relax! _Pm
  3. smiles does a lot of skydiving graphic design, many suitable for manuals. Check out her webpage here. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  4. Andy's a bad influence, isn't he? Yes, I realize that, and I agree that they would find another way to tarnish the flag. But the question is logistical (and quite cheeky) in its nature. HOW would you burn a fireproof flag (if such a thing existed) for retirement? It would be a little harder to do if it's fireproof, right? Somehow an acid bath to make it disintegrate into nothing or a vat of fireproof polymer goo is not quite as noble. Thank you for posting the info. I actually didn't know who conducted flag retirement ceremonies and think it's pretty cool that you can attend one.
  5. LOL, I know...but rhino said he would like to see someone develop a fire proof flag. If he got his wish, then how would you retire it respectfully according to the flag code? _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  6. I think labrys already knows that. The question is how would you respectfully retire a fireproof flag if it doesn't catch fire or burn?? _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  7. Girls may fart, but Girls Don't Poop! _Pm Edited to fix clicky! __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  8. Huh...interesting. I've never done that to my husband, but I frequently warn him when there is elevated danger of it happening. There was one time where HE farted in my face! It was truly by accident, and I didn't mind. I just started laughing hysterically! So what? It happens sometimes. But then again, my husband and I have farting contests, so why should we care if either of us lets one go at a "romantic oral moment"? _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  9. Yah, I completely understand about wearing gloves to avoid scrapes and cuts during other parts of the skydive...but really, in a bad landing, wouldn't a proper PLF with your hands and arms tucked in be your best bet? The equivalent of a dozen paper cuts would be the last thing I'd be worried about on a bad landing. Gloves probably wouldn't protect you from getting broken hands and fingers in a bad landing. It's just the way the original question was phrased I had issue with. So I asked just to make sure I knew what s/he was asking.
  10. As a student, I was never taught to flare with my hands at my sides...I pulled them in towards the middle of my body. This method assures that hands and arms get pulled and tucked in for protection. For me, gloves are for cold protection. Proper hand protection is critical when it's cold--it's tough to flare when you can't move your fingers! Otherwise, I figure that any scrapes I may get from a bad landing every once in a while are really not that big of a deal. If you're dragging on the ground frequently, then I guess wearing gloves on every jump would make sense... My husband has contemplated wearing gloves because his hands and fingers frequently get smacked up by his risers when he reaches up to grab them on opening. But he usually doesn't wear gloves because he has trouble getting his hands through his dive loops with gloves on. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  11. Shhh, don't talk about housewarmings! People might start to remember that we still haven't had ours, yet! Oh, wait...D'OH! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  12. Okay, I'm an extremely low lowbie myself, so I'm not even going to attempt to give you advice on your question. However, I'd like to ask you a couple questions. Why would wearing gloves protect your hands on a bad landing? Wouldn't a proper PLF with your hands and arms tucked in close to your body be a better choice for hand protection? _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  13. Woohoo! Congratulations, girl! Andy hopes you had fun jumping your own pack job. I hear he was giving you some shit on Saturday. If he does that again, just ignore him. I do it all the time! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  14. Didn't JohnRich ask this at the start of this year?? _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  15. I dunno...his lines look a bit odd. Pinky's flying in the opposite direction (more perpendicular, I guess...maybe he's doing a fancy schmancy freestyle swoop thing) of his canopy! We don't want Pinky to have a malfunction! I'll shut up now...it's better than anything I could've come up with on the pooter. I'm much better at drawing things with pen and paper. _Pm Edited to add freestyle swoop technique after thought. __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  16. Unfortunately, I won't be at SDC tomorrow. I really want to see the Canopy Piloting Circuit competition, too. I work at my "real job" on Saturdays and then work at the CSC Pro Shop on Sundays. Oh well, I'll get out there eventually! Good luck on your graduation jumps--hop 'n' pops are fun!
  17. I can't help you with the Photoshop, but I just wanted to add that I love Pinky & The Brain, too! I made a skydiving t-shirt with iron-on transfers with the attached image. Underneath it says: "I feel the need...the need for expeditious velocity!" Hehe. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  18. Well, I posted an essay that my friend wrote about her first jump. She enjoyed it, but she wasn't hooked afterwards. Just be prepared for a reaction like this from your friend (not saying that it will happen, just be prepared). Most people don't end up loving skydiving the same way we do.

  20. Current: 187 Loss: -1 Yay, me! This fall rate adjustment thing is cool. No more "homesick anvil" comments for me. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  21. Good luck with the surgery! Many healing shoulder vibes!
  22. I think you should do a search. With both accepted spellings of travelling. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  23. It's been working pretty well for me and Andy. It's essentially a diabetic's diet. It was written by a cardiologist, and he tried it on himself, then gave it to his patients who were having serious heart problems and developing Type II diabetes. In several cases, cholesterol levels dropped to normal and the Type II diabetes were reversed just from the diet! The science behind the diet that he explains in the book is pretty interesting. Unfortunately it does take extra time (and money) to prepare the meals because you have to go shopping every few days. Fresh ingredients are so very important. It's a lot easier when you've got a buddy to help you prepare meals and kick yer butt to stick to it. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  24. It's not that they're nutritionally different...it's the effect of eating whole fruit making you feel more full for a longer period of time--very important for people on a diet, prevents overeating and all that. The chunks of apple I swallow after chewing are still bigger than what I would ingest from a puree, take longer for my body to break down, thereby slowing sugar absorbtion. I'm guessing it takes a lot more fruit (which means more calories) for a puree to make you feel full and to kill the cravings for more food. (I wonder how much fruit goes into the average puree?) Also, if the sugars in the fruit are "more accessible" to your body in a puree, your body uses them faster, your blood sugar levels rise and drop faster, and you get hungry sooner...leading you to eat more than you should, etc. Again, I don't really know...but that's how I've come to understand it after seriously being on the South Beach diet for the past three months. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
