Perhaps occasionally leaders of the democratic party and their mentors "snap and reveal their inner racist"? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Very good article, now that I found some time to read it. I do think it accurately describes a fundamental difference between the two dominant political philosophies in the USA. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Remind me of a place I used to eat lunch semi-regularly, in Budapest. It was call "Mao Elvtars Kinai Gyors-Bufe"--roughly "Comrade Mao's Chinese Quick Buffet." I'm sure Mao would spin in his grave to know that his name graced a fast food joint. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Obama: It's OK to borrow to pay for health care
TomAiello replied to bodypilot90's topic in Speakers Corner
With his wife, or his girlfriend? With his lawsuits. I once read an estimate that John Edwards was personally responsible for somewhere between $1000 and $2500 of the cost of having a baby in the USA. He had sued, and won a huge settlement, on the basis that a hospital did not use a piece of equipment that had been shown to have no discernible effect on outcomes. But, since not using it could cost millions in lawsuits post-Edwards, hospitals went out and wasted tons of money buying them. I'll see if I can dig up that article--it was a while back, during the primaries, I think in the New York Times. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
If you're living abroad, why haven't you had your perspectives broadened sufficiently to become a good liberal? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Exactly why we should not be invading foreign countries to remake them in our own image. It wasn't a good idea then and it's not a good idea now. Plus, it's goddamn expensive, and the return on investment is extremely poor. Yet somehow still, people wander around calling out the need for the US to invade and re-organize foreign countries. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Obama: It's OK to borrow to pay for health care

Just an aside: does anyone know the approximate dollar cost per birth (every birth in the USA) of John Edwards? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
Sotomayor's statements are deserving of a far higher level of scrutiny and discussion than Limbaugh's. She's an important political figure, who is currently under consideration for a lifetime position on our highest court. He's an entertainer. If you can't see how one of them ought to be scrutinized more thoughtfully, and closely, than the other, I think we're not really going to get very far trying to discuss it. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Ding-Dongs?! You must be a racist...or a communist...or a cracist! Cracist! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Because he's not in a position to be seated in a lifetime appointment to the most powerful judicial body in the country? So it doesn't really matter what he thinks or says? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

That could equally well apply to the people who ran Chrysler, AIG, Lehman Bros, Indymac, Tyco, Enron, Arthur Anderson, Worldcom, GM. Absolutely. Which is why I'm out on the streets advocating that we put Enron in charge of healthcare! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

British Nazi's win two MEP seats for north of England
TomAiello replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
It doesn't matter. The voters have no real choice. "Do you want to? No? Ok. Well, how about now? No? Ok. Well, how about now?" All it takes is one yes answer, and the question is never asked again. 57 times no, and once yes, and it's done. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
Obama: It's OK to borrow to pay for health care

Bill, you seem to be supporting a bare bones coverage that catches those without private options. Can you explain how your proposed system would differ from our current (Medicare/Medicaid) system? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
He thinks that the view that "those who travel less have a narrower worldview" is bigoted. It's a defensible position. Why not discuss it instead of playing semantic games? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Wow. What a shocking example of incompetence, lack of integrity and failure of compassion. Let's put those guys in charge of healthcare, too! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Don't Wind Up On The Business End Of This Gun
TomAiello replied to rwieder's topic in Speakers Corner
An IED wouldn't even dent one of those trucks, they've got as much armor as a tank. I'm doubting that...do you have a cite? Somehow, I'm guessing that LouDiamond has the real scoop on that, if he's allowed to divulge it on the internet. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
Me. I have to admit I've got no idea who Dilawar is (was?). Can you provide a link to more information? Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've only read a couple of his articles that got re-printed elsewhere. I'm not at all familiar with anything else he does (in fact, I can't recall if he has a radio or television show). The articles I read seemed ok to me, although a bit strident, and too heavy on the christianity for my taste (but then, I'm an atheist). -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

??? That's not what it sounded like when we discussed it. I believe that you likened opponents of gay marriage to 1950's racists who opposed interracial marriage. Are you saying you don't have a problem with people who believe marriage shouldn't cross the color line? Or is it that you don't have a problem with "your guy" thinking that? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

It's hardly fair to cry "partisanship" on this one. Remember that the first time this sort of thing happened, it was the democrats who did the "Borking". Both sides are guilty of using the tactic that was (very effectively) pioneered by the democrats. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
