  1. Agreed. The only way that you'd get the Chinese to go along with it (and let's face the fact that within the next 15 years they'll be both the world's largest economy and it's largest polluter) is to invade and occupy them. Anybody here think that's a proposition you want to take on? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. Not to mention the petty dictators and strongmen who have impoverished them, and now grow rich off the "aid" they are subverting. I'm sure they'd disagree, too. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. Wouldn't it be more polite to summarize, in your own words, the underlying points? Simply repeating "read the links" makes it sound like you are either unwilling or unable to state your position for yourself, but rather just take someone else's view on faith. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  4. And there are laws against shooting people. So to prevent swearing, would you be OK with making people wear gags? If it would save just one child from hearing a swear word, wouldn't any amount of gagging be worth it? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  5. ...same as the old boss. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  6. Waiting on the chorus of denunciations we hear whenever someone uses a name like that for the current president.... Why? Using pejorative nicknames for politicians you don't like is common sport. Some people seem to think it implies a deeper and more sinister purpose, and are fond of calling that out whenever a nickname is used against a politician they do happen to like. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  7. I had exactly the same thought, actually. "I'm so young and rebellious...I'm so cool....yeah....death is so cool..." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  8. I strongly disagree with your comment that those deaths were "good." The deaths of those soldiers is one of the many negative consequences of our current neo-imperialism. I don't believe we ought to be out pushing the world around and trying to force it to live according to our morality. But it's possible to think that without applauding death. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

  10. Well, it sucks to have to pay for both when you only use one. And you have less money to pay for your own care when you're forced to pay for care you don't use. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  11. Has anyone done such estimating? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  12. Any idea how much each American is paying for those cars, whether or not they actually get one to drive? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  13. Serious question: Do we have good historical data? Is it possible to compare (for example) the average of the past 100 years with a 100 year average from 1000 years ago or 2000 years ago? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. Wonder how many Koreans agree with you. Doesn't matter. Koreans are irrelevant. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. Then we send an Englishman after them. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. Rule 1 is actually "don't get into a gun fight at all if there is any way to avoid it." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  17. Definitely. But the rule of law was followed by neither side in Honduras. If we're landing on a side (and I don't think we ought to) then I'd go for the guys who violated the rule of law last, and in response, rather than the guy who did it first, in an effort to extend his own power. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  18. >180k I'm still driving a 94 Mazda (it's the replated Ford Ranger) with about 260k miles. It's the 4wd, so it's had some issues related to that, but it's still chugging along, and worth well more to me than the couple hundred bucks or so in bluebook value. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. An important difference being that Nixon had not attempted his own pre-emptive coup prior to his resignation. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Nixon had tried to run a referendum to grant himself a third term? And it had been ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court? And then he'd tried to remove the chief justice from office by force? And Congress had voted to remove Nixon and replace him? Wow, I knew Nixon had done some pretty bad stuff, but the history books don't appear to come even close to explaining how bad. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. Your opinions are not helpful, and we will thank you not to attend the conference. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. Hey, come on, they hired a speed reader--he can just read it aloud before the vote. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. Also, recall that there are some people who we really don't want to wish well, whether they have been deposed or not. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  24. How can you have the gaul to try and argue your corner when you don't even understand the most basic scientific principles related to the subject? I believe that gaul is in france... The thing about this is that when you start excluding reputable scientists from the debate on account of their conclusions, it becomes a political issue open to anyone who wants to speak. And then we have absurdity like the G8 ordering the climate to "cease and desist" it's warming. My all time favorite quote is very applicable here: "Reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled" - Richard P, Feynman -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  25. Won't there be some "free allotment" given out? Or does every credit need to be purchased? Hey, this might be the solution to the deficit!
