  1. They seem to be getting quite a few complaints. I'd guess that they'll work on updates pretty quick. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. You might want to check in this thread. I may be oversensitive, but putting a second post in the top half of the first page to publicize your latest product seems a bit excessive (kind of like spamming the board), don't you think? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. I downloaded the update. I've noticed that Apple often makes their new software with their new systems in mind (i.e. they add a bunch of neat features that need a ton of hardware power or everything slows down). I'm running it on a dual gigahertz G4 tower. I haven't seen any problems (definitely not any of the things you mentioned). The user interface is plenty fast. The machine is left on pretty much continuously (as per Quade's post) so maybe that helps, too. I'll try running it on my old (G4 400) laptop, and see how that goes. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  4. My experience was that anyone who didn't speak French wasn't well liked. But if you tried, even if all you had was your left over high school French, the people were downright nice. France isn't so bad. At least it's not Texas. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Poor guy probably thinks chitlins are a tasty treat, too... Seriously, it sounds like just the kind of insanity this sport is famous for. My only concern would be getting the apparatus off the wires after the jump. I'd bet you could rig up some kind of insulated cage that would survive long enough for you to actually exit. Sounds like some madness I'd be willing to devote a few weekends to... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  7. I believe that's the opposite of Monkey Flocking. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  8. That was Jean Pierre Blanchard. Different guy. Actually, I believe the world's foremost experts on Canine BASE are both Australians (no offense D-Dog, but it only counts if you're not personally the dog in question). Rocket the wonder dog, anyone? I wonder if Frasier will be getting a BASE number while D-Dog is in Lauterbrunnen attending to business? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  9. You can find the Bird-Man Flight Manual on the manufacturer's web site. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  10. Have you gotten the mayor's welcome and the confetti for the BASE jumper yet? You gotta love the lesson built into that game. Pull right away, you're a hero. Pull in the middle, you're roadkill. Pull low, it's either an object strike or a crater. I wonder if it was written by a skydiver? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  11. Can I suggest stupid on-line games? http://www.scuffmark.com/games/jumper.html http://www.freeloader.com/games/hitthefan.htm Where do you work? Aren't you in Silicon Valley somewhere? I thought everyone there was unemployed. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  12. Could be worse. You could be at work with a firewall that didn't let you get to DZ.com.
  13. I used iMovie 3 a bunch last weekend. I was particularly happy with the change over to FC style "infinite undo", rather than re-saving the clips as rendered. Apple's done a lot to impress me, lately. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. Texas ain't part of the South. It's Texas, pure and simple. Regions of the U.S. include: the South, the Midwest, the Pacific Northwest, New England, California and Texas. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. It's Sangiro's forum. I just work there. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. Nah, you're in trouble 'cause you're a fat boy... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  17. Lol, good luck with that now. you DEFINATELY wouldn't get into the UK without a passport. Actually, there are many thousands of US servicemen in the EU (including the UK) without passports. Right now, at this very moment, actually. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  18. Have you tried downloading your data? It's not too hard. Maybe I'm a geek, but it wasn't that big a deal for me. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. Here is Dwain's posting on this subject on the ABA forum. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Have you considered buying a mountain biking helmet or ski helmet and adding the camera mount to it? With a bit of fiddling, you can add a camera mount to almost any helmet. It's not ideal for shooting video, but if shooting video is your priority, you're probably doing the wrong kind of jumping. I'd pretty much just pick the helmet for protection, then add a camera mount. Also, have you considered posting this question to the ABA Forum? The producer of Beyond Extreme is on that board quite often, and he's got a ton of BASE camera jumps. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. Try here. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. This statistic (4% with passports) may be misleading, in the case of Americans. The majority of Americans who have travelled overseas don't have valid passports. Last fall I spent four weeks wandering around Europe on BASE tour with an American who had no passport. American military personnel don't require passports for a great deal of foreign travel (they get shuttled by the military, land at US bases, and are legally entitled to enter many countries with their service ID and current orders). -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. Hi Kim, Is it possible to order pantz with no stripe at all? Or is the stripe structural, so that it would have to be black pantz with a black stripe (or red with red)? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

    Fat Boy BASE

I read the article. I actually know Adam middling well. His company Consolidated Rigging is one of the world's leading BASE gear manufacturers. They also happen to be located 40 minutes from the city I've lived in for the past ten years or so. Adam winces every time I come into his shop with my latest non-standard gear configuration or custom request. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

    Is this an S?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Those types of jumps have been done. I even know some guys who were thinking of setting one up to do regularly (not sure if they did or not). And six months ago, there was a guy trying to start one as a commercial enterprise--sort of a BASE DZ. If you ever get a chance, check out the climbing videos Masters of Stone. One of the early ones (1? 2?) has some footage of Dan Osman (legendary nutso climber and all around nice guy) doing something like that--but not jumping. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
