  1. That's the TM I referenced in my original reply. I know I did his 1200th with him around mid summer this year, and he did his 1500th just before leaving town, so he had to do well more than 300 here this year. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. Not "almost". Dubai is a police state. Read a post from a Dubai local about this here. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. I was living in California. The majority were off about 5 regular objects there. I'd guess I jumped 70 or 80 different objects, all told, that year. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  4. The most I've done in one year is a little over 300. I'd bet that Douggs or TM has done several hundred more in a year. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I'd suggest that they tell you via PM or Email, because I bet the moderator will remove a discussion listing off a bunch of site locations. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  6. Can you tell me what you are basing this opinion on? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  7. In my opinion either will work just fine. Personally, I'd probably opt for the Blackjack because I think the slider down openings are better (i.e. quicker and cleaner). I don't think either one will be a bad choice, though. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

    Turkey Boogie!

The weight of the canopy and the corners of the container might hold it in there for a bit. I've seen a dropped PC on a PCA result in an open container, inflated PC in tow, and canopy sitting in the pack tray for nearly a second. With modern pin rigs, especially if you are doing things like priming pins, using slicker loops, lengthening loops, etc, that may yield looser pins, it is no longer necessarily true that the maximum extraction force requirement occurs at container opening. With some setups, you can now see canopy extraction requiring _more_ force than container opening. (Obviously, in PK's case, multi deployment required more force than container opening.) -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  12. Knowing Den, it's probably something drunken, unintelligible and Russian. But given how he jumps, it's entirely possible he'll repeat the experience. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  13. Oh, I wasn't saying it was the same thing. I was just pointing out that someone has gotten closer than most people are aware of. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. You guys are all aware that Denis Livchenskiy landed a wingsuit accidentally and lived (was in the hospital for about a week) a couple years ago in France, right? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. No doubt about. BCS is clearly broken. Looking forward to a repeat of last years "national champion" fiasco if Oklahoma beats USC? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. Is this an updated version of the same text? Or is it a separate work? Do you know? Thanks for the references! Much appreciated! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

    Douggs' DVD

Hey, has anyone seen "Mid Strife Crisis"? Anyone have any opinions about it? Is it any good? Is it mostly BASE, or is there a bunch of skydiving too? I saw some trailer's here, and I see that it's 45 Aussie bucks to buy it. Worth the money? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  18. Sounds exactly like BASE, doesn't it? Read it this way: And then for this one: try: ***...if you showed up to a BASE site with a paraglider and said, "I am going to fly" - I think they would call the police on you and have the power to do so granted by the landowners. They would see you as a threat to everything they worked for. Given the similarities, perhaps cooperation would work better than confrontation. I'm going to go dig around the USHGA web site, and see if I can join... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. Ok. Johnny and Avery, can we try to keep this out of the forum? Sometimes I get tired of having to keep removing my friends snapping at each other. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Can you tell us what your basis of comparison for this judgment was? How many other BASE jumpers have you observed or jumped with to compare their techniques? Have you observed or participated in any other BASE training programs? Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. Can you tell us your basis for comparison in making this judgment? Have you seen or participated in any other BASE training courses? Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. Defensive much? I had gotten the impression that 813 was thinking the other way around. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. Same as it is here: "ouch, bad idea". -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  24. I don't think that anyone ought to be encouraged to take up BASE, ever. The costs are just so high, that unless you find it yourself, and need it, it's unlikely that you're getting a good bargain. Effects on other jumpers are also important, but less important, in my opinion, than effects of the unprepared student who gets "recruited" into BASE. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  25. This is a bit more than a new business venture. It's more like a fundamental paradigm shift in BASE instruction. That will lead to shifts in the nature, safety, and perception of the sport. Little stone, perhaps. But very big ripples. I think we all have an interest in the sport, and a right to comment on the direction that various of us take it. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
