  1. You're asking me to describe the injustices that will result from "uni-care"? Do I understand that properly? Can you please define "uni-care"? I'm not really familiar with the term, but I bet that if I don't get it defined it's going to be the next thing that comes up in this discussion. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. ***Again, you have to draw a correlation between taxation and spending. WHat I illustrated was that there is no correaltion: - Reagan cut taxes and raised spending enormously - GHWB cut spending and raised taxes - Clinton raised taxes and cut spending - GWB cut taxes EXTREMELY and INSANELY increased spending So, you're saying "don't worry about it--we'll just borrow the money like everyone has done for the last 30 years, and let our kids pay it off?" Let me guess, I'm not allowed to object to the injustice of that because it's my children who foot the bill, rather than me, personally? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. Huh? I don't see that in any of his posts. Can you quote the section you are referring to, so we can all read it? I honestly don't see it. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  4. I'm not. I'd prefer that everything operate on a user-fee basis. I don't want anyone else to pay for me--but I don't want to pay for them, either. Your argument appears to boil down to "well, you use tax funded services, so get over it." The problem is that I don't have a choice to not pay taxes and not use those services. If I did have that choice, I'd take it. I'm absolutely certain I didn't get my money's worth last year when I spent the bundle called "taxes" to purchase the bundle called "government." I'd like to stop buying it, but I'm being forced to do so, and the price is going up all the time. I'd love to stop being part of the problem. In fact, I'd pay substantially for that privilege. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to make that choice. Implying that I've made some kind of choice in this matter is disingenuous, at best. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  5. I'm only permitted to object to one sort of injustice? How's that work? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  6. Why? I'm not following the "rules" you've just conjured up for this argument. Right. And I thought that was a bad thing, too. ***...then refine it describe how if uni-care is passed your personla taxes will increase. ??? How's that relevant? You're saying "oh, don't worry about it, they'll just tax someone else, and those people are rich anyway?" What's that old saying about "and when they came for me, there was no one left to object" ? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  7. A quick scan of foxnews website shows no mention on the front page that we put boots on the ground in Somalia yesterday to recover the corpose of an al qaeda terrorist we'd just killed. The Somali government has confirmed the kill and stated that they welcomed the attack. My guess is it would be the top story if it had been Bush who signed the execute order rather than Obama. Hey, those guys are biased, too, so it's ok? That's kind of weird reasoning, isn't it? I don't think ACORN ought to be getting tax dollars. I don't think the US should be involved in invasions of foreign territory. Am I supposed to view two different biases, neither of which I agree with, as a good thing? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  8. I'm genuinely interested in his thought process--that's why I asked him the question. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  9. You're stereotyping. I'm hoping you just really don't understand, so I'm going to try to explain. I do feel like we ought to help each other. But I'm not so convinced of my moral superiority that I'm willing to force you to live by my moral code. If you don't want to help people, that's your right, and I have no right to force you. The question isn't "should we help people?" The question is "are we morally justified in forcing people to help others?" My answer to the first questions is "yes." My answer to the second is "no." Please don't confuse the issue by thinking that my answer to the first is something else. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  10. My underlying point was: The fact that an injustice is already being done to you does not mean you ought to roll over and let anyone do injustices to you at any time. Do you have a response to my actual point? Or are you unable to respond to the point I was making, so you'll just respond with an ad hominem attack, or a satirical gibe that is off point? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  11. Don't confuse moderation and posting. They are separate. Moderators are free to post whatever they want, within the forum rules, just like everyone else. They're expected to moderate as fairly as they can. But they are definitely not expected to post "fairly" (whatever that means) or not to have opinions on the topics of discussion. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  12. I'm curious how you could buy an EBR, and vote for a politician who thinks you shouldn't have the right to own it, and has promised to take them away. Seriously. Can you shed some light on your thought process for me? Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  13. Do you have a source for that? I'd love to see the poll data. The poll I saw on Sermo had very different results. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. I consider it sociopathy to use someone else's pain to advance your legislative agenda. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. I am already a victim of injustice, so I should just shut up and bend over to take some more? Great advice, Bill. You ought to consider a career teaching women's self defense courses. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. It's the semi-auto only version. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  17. Are you talking about workers being paid under the table? Because if they're not, then it's easy enough to accomplish via payroll withholding. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  18. The real objection most people have to illegal immigration is that those people might be able to collect taxpayer funded benefits. My solution is to allow anyone to legally immigrate if they simply sign an agreement to never collect any kind of welfare or government support. Since 97% of immigrants never do collect anything, that ought to be easy for them, while weeding out anyone who actually wants to ride the system. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. Either that or the poster has imbibed excessive alcohol prior to posting. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Public opinion. I think the public perceives Iraq as "Bush's War" and Afghanistan as "Obama's War." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. I doubt it. I think people just aren't as tired of Obama's war yet, like they were tired of Bush's war. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. You honestly think there's such a thing as a "good" war? War is the last, most terrible alternative. It's never "good". Just, very occasionally, "less bad". -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. Sure. It's a lot cheaper to buy bulk ammo than to get it a bit at a time at a local store. If you're a serious shooter (of whatever variety) the cost can add up pretty quick. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  24. That's not capitalism. That's what happens when there is so much money in the trough of government that corporate interests buy it to feed themselves. The problem that you are pointing out is not a failing of the market. It's blatantly anti-market action on the part of the government that creates and maintains it. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  25. If that's the case, why did he call his political organization the "National Socialist Party"? Clever misdirection? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
