Can anyone, please, explain how Obama is more deserving than Tsvangirai? Anyone? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Why's that good? Because he's an American? Because he's president? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Are you an American or a republican? That is the question.

I'm an individual. How about you? I'm against group identity politics. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
It's their million bucks, they can spend it how they want. Where did all the libertarians go? Are Libertarians also not allowed to comment on the Oscars? Hey, it's their Oscar, they can give it to Yor, Hunter from the Future if they want, right? Give me a break. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Talking well and smiling pretty. The prize committee acknowledged that he hadn't done much, but basically said they gave him the award for attitude and potential, and to try to help him achieve his goals. I feel like I'm in surreal-land. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Concur. I have no idea how you can say that Obama is more deserving than Tsvangirai. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Yes, but to this point they've been liberals who've actually done something. I'm no fan of Jimmy Carter, for example, but he's clearly put a lot of work into promoting peace, and has achieved some successes. At this point, Obama has achieved...the escalation of the war in Afghanistan. Now there's a major achievement for peace in the world. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Sportsman's Guide is usually good, and so is AmmoMan. You might also check Ammunition To Go. Hope that helps. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed

The story I read said it was probably murder-suicide in the midst of a divorce. No word on who was the murderer. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
And Dilithium, of course. It's the key to generating unlimited power. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Have it work as an actual stable store of value, by, for example, not borrowing and stiffing the rest of the world with trillions of dollars that are continuously declining in value? That's not a liberal/conservative issue. It's a fiscal responsibility issue, and since 1980 the USA hasn't seen any real fiscal responsibility in it's government. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed

Can you remind me what the conclusion was again? If it wasn't the title of the thread, then the title of the thread pretty well shows how it could be misconstrued, and that, in practice, it _will_ be misconstrued and applied beyond it's premise. Of course I'm certain that's something the study authors never would have thought could happen in a million years. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

That's a decision for me to reach personally. Not one for the government to make for me, and then coerce me into abiding by. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
they were hijacking government power to their own private ends (when government power is used to promote private ends, isn't that fascism--not capitalism?)

Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed
TomAiello replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
Which is exactly the point. Every single day, virtually everywhere I go, I take with me the two most valuable things in my world. If someone tries to take them, you can damn well bet there's going to be a physical altercation. If producing a gun means I increase my chances of being shot in that altercation, but also increases my chances of defending them, then I'm going to be using a gun. I'm willing to get shot in that cause. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

Because increases or decreases in rates of violence or suicide are totally irrelevant to the purpose of the 2nd Amendment? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
Do a little research on something called the earth quake bomb developed by the English during WWII Ok, I read up on it. Can you explain how it's relevant to this discussion? Would it somehow be politically viable for use against China, when other bombs would not? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Honestly, I think the problem there was that they hijacked the government to their own purposes. It was their abuse of government authority that I have issues with. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed
TomAiello replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
In most places, those actions would be considered assault, not merely attempt to assault. Brandish a firearm before the assault is committed (or, in some circumstances, while/after it is committed), and suddenly, you're the one guilty of assault. Remember that you have to be convicted. I doubt that most courts are going to convict someone who brandishes in self-defense of assault. It could happen, of course, but I think it's unlikely. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

And you are a subject of this study. Lots of people live in different situations, have different backgrounds, and behave differently from the average subject of this study. It says nothing at all about any specific person who might hold any particular beliefs, because it's not examining them, relative to their preparation and training, their other habits, etc, etc, etc. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

I think the political ramifications of using such a weapon against the Chinese mean it's unlikely we're actually considering that, and certainly not viewing it as an "urgent" need (which is how the Pentagon classified this funding request). What's so urgent about starting WW III? In fact, the same logic really applies to North Korea, albeit to a lesser extent. The only logical target is Iran, and then only until they complete their own weapons development, because then the consequences would be too great (so they'll be off limits, too). Given that logic, it's no surprise that they want to develop their own nuclear weapons as soon as possible, is it? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed
TomAiello replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
Wouldn't brandishing a firearm be considered assault in many cases? Not if it was done by a legal carrier to prevent an assault. In that case, no shooting occurs, so the data is excluded from the study. In the case that the weapon is legally brandished, and then a shooting does occur--I think Bill is saying that's the excluded 1.5% of incidents. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
