  1. Ive never quite understood why you call it the world series when there are only teams from one country participating Toronto Blue Jays Ok, how about the "two countries series" :P
  2. A bigger is better type of thing? :D Nice to see you're gonna be watching it. Although a lot of people in the USA don't see it as a big sport, you've produced some superb players over the years. One of my personal favorites, probably one of the best Goal Keepers my team (Blackburn Rovers) has ever had - Brad Freidel. Legend - was a sad day for me when he left us :(
  3. Not quite sure if im right about this one, but doesnt that competition involve people of all different nationalities? If so, then they have no reason not to refer to it as "universe", because as it stands, im not aware of anything living off planet earth to take that given title away from the winner. To stay on subject, forget the "greatest" part - the word "worlds" is in there because it involves a lot of countries from all around the world. Sorry to be an arse, but you still havent explained to me why you call something a world series when there is only 1 country directly involved in it

  5. Well, the worlds greatest competition for me and most other people in the world - the World Cup. Im curious how you guys in the states rate it, considering that Football is not the number 1 sport over there like it is in most other countries. In England and Spain where I've been living now for 5 years (and the rest of Europe and around 90% of the rest of the countries in the world) it's a MASSIVE thing and the hype surrounding it all is huge. We get ridiculously passionate about it all. The build up to it has been going on for around a year now, and I know myself that I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to our first group game, England vs USA, but are you guys really all that bothered?
  6. Always been fascinated by parachutes and the science in objects falling from heights without being damaged since i was about 6 years old. As a little kid, I used to make parachutes every day out of bags and other materials and throw them out of my bedroom window, always trying to better the previous one. It was only after i started skydiving though that i realised that i had this demon sleeping in me ever since i was a child, waiting to be released! May of last year me and a friend at work were talking about things we've always wanted to do, and she said SkyDive. Was the first time someone else had agreed with me that it would be a great experience, so I went straight to the laptop and got in touch with a DZ and booked a tandem for the week after - we even managed to encourage another work friend to come with us. Quite funny really, because until i actually talked with someone else about doing it id never once thought about actually DOING it. I had no idea how it all worked, or that your average joe could just book a tandem. I didnt even know what a tandem was! Week later I was hanging out of the door of a cessna and was extremely calm. Im shit scared of heights, but I had great faith in the equipment and was mentally prepared for what was to come. I remember thinking in the door "ok, keep arms and legs crossed till we get stable". Out the door we went, and my arms were straight into a boxman like position like a fooking idiot. About 2 seconds later on my vid you can see me shaking my head thinking "shit, i shouldnt be doing this yet". I put my arms back across my chest and waited for the signal that i could open them. I remember taking in all the sights and goofing around with the camera guy infront of me. I remember quite a lot, didnt get much in the way of sensory overload. Knew as soon as I landed that I was hooked. Did AFF a couple of months later. One of my work friends wanted to do AFF too, but money issues and children prevented her.
  7. Ahhhh don't build my hopes up by replying and not wanting the task!
  8. For any of you who saw my previous thread, I want to buy a Ford Mustang and export it to the UK. I'm looking for someone who lives in the area and knows about cars to go check it out for me, make sure there is no damage, maybe give it a test drive and re-assure me that everything seems good with the car. If I get the go ahead from my bank for the cash on Monday, I'd want someone to check it out for me asap. If you're close by and interested leave me a reply or send me a pm. p.s. there's $100 dollars in it for you :) Thanks!
  9. If I import it within 1 month of purchasing it, I get charged based on the value I paid. If I go over this time frame, they charged me based on the UK wholesale value (which is a hell of a lot higher than in the US!). Funny thing is though, shipping from the USA to the UK takes 6-8 weeks anyway! Stupid rule! Just emailed customs to find out whether the 1 month rule applies to exporting from port of origin within that time frame, or making sure it lands in the port of destination within that time frame. Better be the former!
  10. Can you still avoid both of these by owning it and leaving it in the US for 6 months? Nope. The only way I could avoid them is if I was importing the car to the UK for work or as a student and only kept the vehicle in the UK for X amount of time (3-6months i think) before shipping it back to its original country of origin before this time frame lapses.
  11. Yeh I suppose thats understandable, so I'd just like to point out that im on a budget of 16,000 euros, which I originally thought was enough... that was until I found out I'd be getting charged 27.5% instead of 17.5%, which puts me a couple of thousand above budget :(. No harm intended anywhere, just being a little inpatient, that's all.
  12. Yeh no more answers needed on this one I think!
  13. Hey guys. I'm looking at buying a used 2009 Ford Mustang from a car dealership in Miami and importing it into the UK, but once it arrives in the UK I have to pay 17.5% tax and 10% import duty based on the amount the car was bought for + plus all costs of shipping up until the moment it arrives in the UK. I'm not quite sure how things work in the USA, but does anyone think it would be at all inappropriate to ask the car dealer to invoice me a couple of thousand dollars less than what I actualy pay for the car? Or do you think they will tell me where to get off straight away? Love a bit of black money.
  14. Living in Almería at the moment, so driving to Castellón for me is about the same distance as Sevilla. Someone else mentioned it to me though on the UK skydiving forum, and after looking at some pics and videos it does look real nice so definitely gonna pay it a visit soon.
  15. Hey, Doubt that most of you from the US travel to spain to jump, so looking more towards the europeans for answers on this. Has anyone ever been to the DropZone in Murcia, Spain? I've checked out their website, and although I speak Spanish it doesn't really help me find out what I'd like to know... (type of aircraft, price of kit hire, cost per jump etc). Not many working links on their website. Here it is http://webs.ono.com/caidalibre/ I live in Spain, but normally travel to SkyDive Spain in Sevilla which is a great place, but a long drive for me, so if anyone can give me any info on this and save me an hour and a half drive to check it out myself it would be great. Cheers
  16. I had a similar problem with my landlord in Spain (The laws here on letting are more or less the same back home in the UK regarding notice, etc). I work night shifts, and I had a feeling someone was going into my house when I was at work. I rigged the door with a tiny piece of paper to see if it was being opened when i was away, which it was. I confronted the landlord and called his bluff, telling him i knew he was entering when i was in work.. he denied. I thought after confronting him it would stop, but it didn't, so I later told him it was still happening, and that £1,000 euros had been taken (we both obviously knew it hadnt), and with the two of us being the only keyholders, i was prepared to do 1 of 2 things and i wanted an on the spot decision. 1) I personally change the locks, regardless of the contract saying the landlord must also have access to the property. We write up an agreement, and i will be the sole key holder of the property until my contract was up. 2) I ring the police and inform them that someone has been accessing my house with a key, and there are only 2 key holders. I also move out with immediate effect, so on top of faffing around with the coppers, he was losing a good tenant who always paid on time etc etc. He took number 1 really quickly and tip toed round me for the rest of the time i stayed there. Ever thought about taking out a restraining order on your landlord? I wonder if that would be possible with enough evidence of harassment - wont even be able to access his prized cellar if you´re at home :D Either way, I really think you should just see a lawyer and consider threatening him with legal action depending on the advice you get - maybe you could ring or pop into the local police station to ask them for their advice on the best course of action - im sure they have dealt with lots of similar issues, and you are definitely in the right on this one, so go for it!
  17. Ah god this is all to funny i can't take it anymore. Who has an IQ high enough to tell me how to delete the thread.
  18. or so I've been told by many a whuffo.... but we all know that a Skydiver can see the bigger picture in life, and there is no doubt about it that someone who jumps out of planes has some sort of intellectual superiority over your average whuffo. Hell, if we didn't, the majority of us wouldn't have good jobs like we do to have the cash to jump! But I would like to know exactly what the difference is in IQ between joe whuffo and a Skydiver... or more so, I wouldn't mind knowing what the average IQ of a Skydiver is. To take the test, go to http://www.free-iqtest.net/. Post your score, I wouldn't mind writing a blog on this as soon as I can get some half arsed evidence together!
  19. Had the sucked back up question a few times. Also got asked today "Whats the chances of hitting the planes propeller when you jump out? Can it not suck you towards it?" lol. Love the comment someone made about drowning when falling through clouds! Everyone gets asked a lot of stupid questions, but I bet the majority of us turn those questions into conversations - at the end of the day, what we do is our passion, and we all love speaking about it. Im going for a weeks jumping break next month, and purely because of making conversations out of peoples stupid questions im taking 3 tandems with me and 1 AFF. +1 for skydiving.
  20. Who knows, started off with pins and needles in my right hand under canopy. It´s still a little numb, but not that bad. I´ll leave it another 2 weeks and if it´s still the same i´ll go see a doctor.... im not really one to fuss, only been to the doctors about 4 times my whole life. And to the person who said it could be when you de-pressurise on the way up, you may have a point with that one, think its only happened when ive done that :S Cheers for the tips
  21. The one time this happened to me was because I was skydiving while my sinuses weren't clear. I felt pressure in my head during the jump (first time that had happened), but I chalked it up to not having blown my nose, which I remedied after I landed. No blood. I went up another time, and again felt pressure during the dive. And this time, I had blood in my phlegm. Lasted a week or two. Now if I have a cold, I don't skydive. If I'm recovering or have even a little bit of a stuffy nose, I pop a Sudafed. Do you feel pressure in your head during the jump? Or just on the climb to altitude? Happened over the course of a few jumps in 2 days. I´m in good health, no cold whatsoever. First day i was feeling no pressure on the climb to altitude, and the way down felt fine as well. Second day (Today) i felt a lot of pressure round the top of my nose on the climb to altitude, and i was in some serious pain pressure wise in the head and ears on the way back down. From about 6,000 down to my pull altitude of 3,500 i must have had a face like a bulldog chewing on a wasp bearing the pain. Soon as i opened first thing i did was grab my nose and de-pressurise myself which made me feel a lot better lol.
  22. I'm very anti drug. Never tried coke in my life and never will. I'll definitely take your advice on that first point though. Can you clarify for me that that you provide this advice from first hand experience? Thanks
  23. Ive started getting nosebleeds after ive made a jump - when i say this, i dont mean i have blood pouring out of my nose, but after making a jump, every time i blow my nose for the next half an hour you can pretty much guarantee that there is gonna be blood in there! Can feel the pressure in the top of my nose when climbing to altitude.... quite curious to know if anyone else gets this or if im on my own here! In my whole 22 years of living ive had about 2 nosebleeds. The tip of my right thumb has also been numb for 4 days.
  24. After a days rest i went back and got through my level 3 no problem, must have just been worn out coz i didnt feel like i was doing much different but everything just slotted into place :) Also got my level 4, 5, 6 and 7 done in the same day no problems at all. Cant believe i was having any difficulty - now it seems so easy! Thanks to people for the advice :) Helped me relax a little more leading up to going again.
