Any other DZ's want copies of all tandem vids?
sbhesq replied to sbhesq's topic in Photography and Video
Our DZO just asked for us to figure a way for the DZ to keep a copy of all of the tandem vids we shoot so that if the customer ever loses the video and wants another copy the dz can provide it even if the videographer is not there anymore. Looking for opinions about this policy. Also, if it is common, how are others doing this? Thanks, Steve -
How many jumps do you have on your OIS camcorder?
sbhesq replied to frost's topic in Photography and Video
I have about 40 4-way jumps and absolutely no problems at all. Steve -
Personal Injury Attorney -How Late is too Late to Fire One?
sbhesq replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
The way it typically works in an auto case is that the fee dispute has NOTHING to do with you. The fee dispute is between the new attorneys and the old attorneys. Ther are usually working on a contingency. Therefore, you get the entire portion that is set forth in the Retainer and the attorneys fight about the fee split. -
Can't you use the new Hypeye that connects via the d-link? That would eliminate the need for the lanc port.

My burner just died and I was wondering what others are using that are fast. I was using an old Panasonic that took forever but was a great way to test my patience!! Now I just want some speed!! Thanks, Steve

That is true for the most part however the slow motion on the CX7 is slower and jittery as compared to the PC1000 if that is a feature that you use.

I am sure this is a dumb question for you but .... The computer does not recognize the file type. When I open the files later in a hd friendly program will they be recognized? Right now I have basic Vegas and am going to upgrade and thus don't have anything that will recognize hd video.

Just to download the hd files and store them. If there is a better way (which, by your post, I am certain there is) please let me know as I am a novice at this. Thanks again

I bought a CX7 a while ago and have since moved. I cannot find the original software which came with the camera and, of course, Sony wants to charge me for a new installation disc. Any chance anyone out there has one I could borrow to install on my new computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

I have a cx7 and have been using something like http://www.vertical-visions.com/tallylight.php and it has been working well for me. Just a suggestion until DSE lets us in on the mysteries of the DLink!! Steve

I have been using a Kenko .43x lens on my pc1000 and like the effect. I just purchased a CX7 and was wondering if anyone knew what high def lens would give the equivalent width. As stated in another thread, the numbers generally don't mean very much between manufacturers. Any help is greatly appreciated. Steve

I just bought the camera as well. When I downloaded the files (recorded in SD) in Vegas (older version) the video shows up but there is no audio at all. However, when I play the clips on windows media player the audio is there. Does anybody have any idea why this is? Please help!

Last weekend I filmed a tandem and the picture was perfectly clear. I didn't touch the camera, but the next tandem was a little hazy. For some reason the picture looks slightly blurry now matter what. I have tried to fix the problem but can't get the camera to focus properly. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

Depending on how the port is broken I have come up w/ a bandaid that has worked all season. If you want pm and I will explain what I did. Steve

cutaway charges for rented gear
sbhesq replied to flyuphi99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
QuoteHow can you say she did she not volunteer to help look for the gear? She said she had to work Monday and Tuesday, that she could get there Wednesday, and, not knowing the protocol in the situation, questioned how she could find the gear out in the middle of the woods when told she would need to walk through the woods looking. ... After reading your post I stand by what I said even more. It is truly sad that you feel that the people who were talking to you about your incident (who have an aggregate of over 20,000 skydives) were trying to do anything but help. It is equally disturbing that you still do not understand that you changed your story numerous times and still have no clue what actually happened to you. Again, maybe skydiving is just not for you. Moreover, your attitude that evening was abhorrent. You never once thanked a single person for either trying to find you or for looking for your gear. You never said you were going to help look for your gear. In fact, you said that you expected the staff to find it for you. Indeed, the only reason the DZ gave you an invoice was because you showed not one ounce of caring for the gear you rented and subsequently lost. Also, if you continue to skydive, I recommend that you speak with an instructor to review the procedures for clearing a pilot chute in your burble because clearly you did not have a grasp of what to do. As I said in my previous post, I am happy that you executed your emergency procedures and walked away from the incident unharmed. -

cutaway charges for rented gear
sbhesq replied to flyuphi99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My wife, who is an AFF instructor, and I (coach and videographer) were at the DZ this weekend when this incident took place. After witnessing the event and listening to the skydiver's stories (which she changed about six times) it was very apparent that the jumper did not have a bag lock as she now claims, but rather it was more likely that her pilot chute was caught in her burble. It was also clear that the jumper had no idea what happened. Of that I am certain because by her own admission she never looked up after she threw her pilot chute at 4,200 feet (without any mention of a hard pull). She then claimed she waited a "few seconds", saw power lines, got scared and had a opened reserve at 1,500 feet. Loosely translated ... @ 15 seconds later. This jumper cannot account for any of the @ 15 seconds and what type (if any) malfunction she had. Her lack of recollection of the events was truly frightening. This skydiver should consider the DZ's charging her for the gear she lost the least of her concerns. More importantly she should truly consider whether after her clear lack of awareness she should even continue skydiving. We are happy that she did pull her reserve and land safely. However, expecting not to pay for the loss is truly absurd after the skydiver did not even volunteer to help look for the gear. We all assume risk when we make a skydive, especially when you have your own gear and choose to grab a rental rig because this skydiver could not even pack their own rig. Maybe the better choice would have been to miss the sunset load and get a packing lesson. -
The LANC port on my PC-101 broke from being stuffed into the dbox with the cameye on the camera. Does anyone know where I can get it fixed relatively quickly? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Steve
