Thanks everyone! Sounds like the consensus is beer

I'm working on my license right now, and tipping instructors really doesn't seem part of the "culture" at my DZ, so I never did. It seems odd though, because they definitely don't get paid enough, and they're doing a pretty significant thing. Do you guys think it would be appropriate to send the staff some kind of communal gift? I should have my license this month, and was trying to think of a "thank you" thing to send. What do you think would be appropriate? Do other DZs have tipping? I hope I'm not committing some huge faux pas....

Thanks! The window had blue when I bought it, but has turned white, as I've packed it a couple of times, and undid it, apparently. I'll definitely try that. I will also have someone show me, but I haven't been to my drop zone in a few weeks because even in June and July, the weather here is terrible I'll practice as best I can until this weekend.

I am working on my license, and just bought a rig. I'm practicing packing, but have only learned to pack the student gear so far. I'm practicing on my rig now, but there's one thing I cannot get: Can anyone explain to me how to cock a pilot chute? I can find a million pages about why to cock a pilot chute, when to cock a pilot chute, etc., but nothing about HOW. Obviously, I am NOT jumping this gear yet, but I would like to be packing it properly so I can practice. Thanks!!

Totally new. I'm second guessing myself...

I'm also new to the sport (four jumps away from my A license). I was very nervous every jump until I started doing 45 second delays. I'm not sure why that was my breaking point, but it was. I'm still a little nervous, but I think that helps me focus and keep alert. You're jumping out of an airplane and depending upon your own skills--of course you're nervous! But, as one of my instructors says, as fear goes down, fun goes up. Only you can decide if you wan to keep jumping, but I think you'll like it more and more as your fear goes down. And it will. Probably a bit slowly, but ask lots of questions so you're not wondering about anything, and learn from any mistakes you make. Breathe and relax. Smile! It really does help. -
Good tip, thank you!

I'm ready (sort of) to order my first jump suit. I'm thinking of ordering one of these: http://www.tonysuits.com/products/swoop_suit.php I'm going to order it without booties, since I'm still learning, but I'm not sure what to do about the fabric choices. I've been told I should stick with some slicker fabrics, to help me fall a little faster and keep up (I'm about 125lbs). Does anyone have any tips? What worked for your first suit? What do you wish you had done differently? Also, I'm thinking of ordering it mostly black, with purple grips. Is it considered foolish to have dark grips, or can people still see them fine? Thanks!!

Hey guys. I know this is a completely newbie question, but I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere: What the heck does it mean when it says "below 500 feet AND above 1000 feet"? How can you be both above and below the cloud line? Does that actually mean "or"? Can someone please clarify for me where the plane is flying in relation to the clouds, on the vertical axis? Are you good if you're 500 feet below them, and also okay if you're 1000 feet above them? Thank you!!!

Most basic question ever! Female jumpsuit suggestions?
quesera replied to quesera's topic in Gear and Rigging
Okay, obviously I am newwww to skydiving (I'm on jump 10). I want to buy my own jumpsuit, but I got quickly overwhelmed looking at websites. Currently, I don't really care about much except a little warmth and some grass stain prevention, but I don't want to buy something that I quickly "out grow" because it doesn't have the features I find I suddenly need. I'm at the "I don't know what I don't know" stage, but also at "I want to stop wearing other people's fear-sweat soaked clothes" phase Anyway, I'm female, approximately 130 lbs, and can probably assume I won't be doing anything too fancy. I would like to stay in a moderate price range, and I've found that the jumpsuits at the drop zone have a major gap between sizes, making the small kind of tight but the medium huge. Does anyone sell jumpsuits in the 2/4/6/8 sizing? Thanks for any advice! And sorry for such a newbie question
