  1. Think I'll pass as a test jumper and wait a while till they work the kinks out of building, rigging, packing, and using it.
  2. Now picture it as your hooking up to a scared and hungover tandem student! Preferably a big fat one!
  3. So I guess I'm not going to ever see that $100 jumpsuit I paid in full for in 1989. They were gone a week later! :)
  4. Jim Wallace used to run his own place in CA at Bear Creek Airport just south of Elsinore. Also Oceanside in CA was closed for a long time but is open now with Rich Grimm owner. Just wanted to add Desert SkyRanch at Buckeye Airport that used to be Rick Horn's DZ.
  5. Years ago we managed to get a pumpkin that the local steak house was using as a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Probably weighed about 120-150 pounds, it took 3 of us to get it over the step and into the 182. The plan was to push it out in free fall but the pilot was slightly opposed to that idea! We talked him into letting us push it out at 1500' right over the top, just in case the pusher fell out. It was awesome!! That pumpkin bounced off the step, and just kept accelerating. It exploded like a bomb going off! There wasn't a piece left bigger than 3-4 inches. I can't imagine the damage if it had hit somebody or something. This was at Lakewood NJ so we had an 1800' target area in case of a long spot.
  6. It depends on whether it has narrow or wide velcro for the main closing flap!
  7. I have a 28' Phantom that is on the list. It's in a National Warp III container and it's great for rigger training. Acid mesh testing, round flaking, 2 pin container closing. I wouldn't want to jump it anymore though!
  8. I was just in "History and Trivia" and didn't see the DB Cooper thread? Is it really gone?
  9. Green Army Men and "Red Rats". Basically ground bottle rockets without sticks! Cardboard boxes were used to have your friends roll you downhill in, like being tumbled dry.
  10. Outstanding! (By the way, the tuxedo'd guy at 4:08 is Jerry Girdler. The photo was taken at my wedding)
  11. Rolling Thunder! (8 way side by side tube). Otherwise dead air dive off a helo or balloon.
  12. The first time it happens to an I or anyone else that makes a living from jumping I'd expect USPA would be a defendant in the lawsuit for lost wages and defamation. As for BPA not getting complaints from its membership, it seems to me that as easy as it is to get banned from jumping there I'd keep my mouth shut too.
  13. It depends on the licensing fee. It worked out well for Bill Booths 3 ring patent and also Steve Snyders direct line attachment point patent. They both made good money on those patents. Is litigating the infringement lawsuit cheaper than paying the fee?
  14. If the past history of the USPA is any indicator, incidents like this will certainly happen again. Trying to write rules for individuals that are in power positions is futile. Electing Directors that want to do the right thing is a much simpler solution. In this case we had a person that was motivated to cover up an incident to prevent embarrassment to himself and his DZ and he took the easy way out, aided and abetted by his fellow directors.
  15. Nope, the cover-up went right by numbers and the incident disappeared. The alleged non-incident and non-broken leg occurred in March.
  16. It doesn't happen often "skydiver to skydiver" but a number of jumpers have given "expert" testimony and technical information in skydiving accidents as paid consultants especially against gear manufacturers and drop zones. It's an ugly business.
  17. Don't tell anybody but not all dropzones are USPA members and, contrary to popular belief, the SIM only applies to Group Member DZ's. Even then the legal obligations are pretty tenuous. Liabilities vary widely from state to state and federally.
  18. Exit order. Aircraft Lights, signals, and procedures for spotting and exit. Specific DZ personnel. S&TA, Loaders, Packers and packing areas. Swoop areas. Local turbulence patterns. Other aircraft patterns and habits. First Aid equipment locations and emergency reporting procedures. Just off the top my head
  19. I had one mounted on a ProTec. They weren't very loud so I rarely heard it. As a joke, I set it so it would go off whenever I dropped it! I had a call from our DZ gear store about 3 years ago wanting to know if I knew how to set one. A novice had gotten a hold of one and wanted to try it out. I showed him how to set it and it worked just fine.
  20. I've donated every 8 weeks for about the last 15 years. Most charities want money. The Blood Bank just wants my time! It's a good thing to do.
  21. Pretty much a headbanger here. XM 37 Octane. Favorites of late: Saliva, Hell Yeah, Five Finger Death Punch, Slipknot, and Rob Zombie.
  22. Just saw her and Kirk a couple weeks ago. They were getting another service dog for Kirk. They were both doing good!

  24. Actually, I just appraised a collection for a person who's husband had past and she wanted to know if any of his coins were worth anything. I looked them over and recommended a dealer in the local area and the collection sold for $32,000. The American Numismatic Assoc. (ANA) currently has 28,000 members and even with that many, most smaller collectors aren't members. The Long Beach Coin Show is held 3 times a year and attracts over 600 dealers each time. While coin collecting doesn't have the membership it used to have 30 years ago, the Internet has made it much more easier to collect and do research without leaving home.
  25. Don't clean them! Send me a PM. I am with the Hemet Coin Club (Past President) and also on the Board of the Numismatic Assoc. of Southern California. I can certainly make some recommendations and provide general info.
