    DVD burners...

I have been checking out DVD burners, and would like to get started with burning my home movies. Any help on what burner to purchase would be helpful, thanx. I don't understand all of the burning terminology that deals with the discs and the software. Trying to buy blank discs for the burner you find out how many different formats are out there. DVD+RW or DVD-RAM? What does SVCD and DTS mean? DVD + RW - R = A whole lot of confusion! I found a website of terminology that is helpful at: http://www.manifest-tech.com/links/dvd_terms.htm The great thing about this site is that it covers the gamut of burning terms. Various CD and DVD disc formats is also included on the whole range of terms that go along with the authoring process. SMiles

  5. unsure if this is motivation....???? I have the opposite problem from everyone I know....I want to gain weight so bad. I dropped 15 lbs. a yr. 1/2 ago....and have been unable to gain it back....in fact I just keep losing weight---have no muscle mass...skin hangs...very weak. Everyone teases me calling me "bag of bones", honestly I do not feel the strength to make a skydive and that sucks. I have chronic illness with my digestive system. There is an alternative which is to be hospitalized on TPN (total paretineal nutrition) or feeding through the veins for 16 weeks to fatten me up. In the meanwhile I dehydrate so easily and drink loads of fluids and ensure drinks, once you loose muscle mass it is real hard to get it back (of course if I was digesting the goodies my body needs it would be a different story) So- I think anyone wanting to loose weight is .... If you are a healthy person and are not happy with your weight - motivation will come depending on your priorities. SMiles
  6. I think the water gun with vinegar & water mixed is Coons are so adorable- I understood they are real vicious if cornered--if you feed them--they'll be back for sure along with their family. I can understand feeding monkeys when they are behind a cage but tourists in the park like to feed the squirrels, ducks, ---when it comes to raccoons- they ain't going to take being lured with food and getting ripped off SMiles
  7. People will hold out their ice cream cones trying to get the raccoon closer so they can get a photo -- and they'll be holding onto their kid at the same time.............. About 15 people have been bitten by raccoons in Stanley Park (Van. B.C. Canada) in the past five days and health officials are increasingly frustrated that people continue to feed wild animals despite rabies alerts. There is heightened concern about animal bites this year because three young skunks tested positive for rabies after being found dead in the park recently. The three young infected skunks were likely all from the same family and were likely all infected by the same bat. Health officials do not know if any of the raccoons that have bitten people are carrying the virus, because it cannot be detected until an animal is dead. The majority of the people who have been bitten this week were tourists trying to feed the raccoons or provoke them. Each person who is bitten has to undergo a month-long series of rabies shots, the first of which is injected directly into the bite wound. The rabies inoculation is not pleasant but the prospect of getting rabies is much scarier. Once you start showing symptoms, that's it -- there is nothing that can be done for you. It's a horrifying disease. Most of the bites have happened at the park, where there is a family of raccoons that has become very accustomed to humans. They're not afraid of people. In an effort to get close to the raccoons, tourists have been luring them in with food, then pulling the food away as the raccoon gets closer. In some cases, that's when the raccoon will leap up and bite the person with the food. One of the primary mistakes made by people is that they're not willing to let their food go once the raccoon approaches. Some of the park's staff will be walking the woods using a Super-Soaker water gun filled with water and vinegar to try to deter the raccoons from approaching humans. ___________________________ SMiles
  8. Exactly[:`][:`]...or atleast spend the bucks to make a few skydives to be better prepared....(if you are purchasing emergency rig) SMiles
  9. My name is Karen Cox.... To this day when I am asked my name by any receptionist I automatically add the spelling of "Cox".. lets see..from a young age I got every kind of teasing imaginable Karen- cox box, suck my cox, hey cox lick my cock, you like cox, your mom married a cox .....and on and on. Hey, it could be worse-- but coco alone- never mind the cox??? SMiles
  10. I have been working designing graphics for manufacturer of emergency rigs. One rig design is static line, the other has release handle. I cannot help but wonder if in severe emergency (highrise and no place to exit due to fire...explosion...or whatever) if a wuffo could follow instruction by pictures only- re: smash window- pull heavy desk or something to attach static line to, close to window---, hook up static line, get the rig on and tighten adjustments- do up belly band- and hurl themself out. Without any steering ablility under a round canopy- land safe doing a plf. Then again window washers, or construction workers on bridges, or para-gliders wearing an emergency rig would have to have the ability to grab hold of release handle with 2 hands.. while falling--to deploy their round canopy.. I suppose any chance is better than none- but if I was to purchase such a back-up I would certainly expect a video clip to watch with instruction explained- for better preparation. SMiles
  11. Too much consumer choice- How out of control the concept of consumer choice has become-which one should we choose? Does obsessing over making the best choice cause unhappiness? Abundance has not created a satisfied society. Ever find yourself staring at dozens of virtually identical tile samples believing that the “ecru” subway wall tile will somehow fulfill in a way that the “white” subway tile won’t? In fact being overwhelmed with all those perplexing but trivial decisions we make every day, numbs us to the fact that the breadth of these choices is laughably narrow. A classic example is choosing between Nestle’s Aero or Mirage chocolate bars. (Aero’s bubbles are slightly bigger.) And there is the dozen different formulations of Tide sitting on the supermarket shelf. Selecting “relaxed fit” over “easy fit,” while undeniably a choice, is a hollow surrogate for choices that truly matter, choices that reflect true personal autonomy. “Maximizers” or people who want the absolute best, so they have to examine every choice or they fear that they are not getting the best -are prone to misery and depression. A “satisficer,” on the other hand settles for what is good enough and is more likely to be happy. Then there is the “status anxiety”- the choices people make in their desperate quest for social standing. “Multiphrenia” has been termed a manic society trying to avail itself of a sea of choices in the belief that everything can be improved…”newer” “better” “updated”…………….. The illusion of choice- buying into the illusion that we have “unlimited choice” also leads to another delusion- that it, rather than people making choices, is to blame for many social problems. The compulsion to take inventory of one’s wants and continually upgrade to a better deal can help explain everything from the rise of the pathological channel switcher who can never watch one show straight through to staggering divorce rates to employer-employee disloyalty. Do we as consumers and citizens, enjoy and exercise “unlimited choice?” We have such little choice about the things that really matter. The abundance of insignificant choices masks the reality that choice is not as plentiful as we think, particularly where it matters- in politics, in culture, in public discourse. In Canada and the U.S., the election campaigns highlight the fact that both countries have monolithic two-party systems in which distinctions aren’t as significant as the rhetoric suggests. Is there no pricing competition on everything from credit-card interest rates to gas prices? Lack of choice is also evident in a repetitive diet of banal mass-market of entertainment, despite our 1,000-channel universe. Yes, lets blame the remote control for behavior that has human choice at its root. Let’s criticize stores for paving the way to our “genuine suffering”. That’s our choice, isn’t it? Just as it’s our choice to decide whether to buy into the conventional wisdom about consumer choice, or not. HIPPIES

a hippie is a baby hypopotimus-- The way of the hippie never died. there’s a little hippy in all of us. It’s just been repressed by our socialization process. -carefree and in love with life, regardless of my age? Being a hippie is not a matter of dress, behavior, economic status, or social milieu. -definately a state of mind. It can't lie in any outward appearance. Being a hippie is definately an inner quality. -a way of being at peace with one's self and at harmony with the world. -one who takes pride in themselves and their simplest, most effective abilities. hey, what can I say? I have a hippie inner quality SMiles

  14. hmmm- this is simply the stage that you find out these jumpers have "attitude" (could also be referred to as "ego" but I prefer "attitude.") Some are too aggressive with their knowledge, some suppress the aggressiveness needed. They may lack confidence or have to much of it. Those jumpers with "know it all attitude" are like teenagers....they do not see distance between your level of skydiving knowledge, ability and skills...and theirs. They do not realize the learning curve that exists at this stage..re: a measure of what they already know versus what they have yet to learn. A positive learning attitude comes when a jumper realizes they have good basics to build apon- they are aggressive in their desire to learn and ask questions from those with greater ability (they recognize that there is always someone who has progressed farther than them) They know how to listen and seek understanding. They have ability to appreciate information that has been given, they also know how to say "thank you." SMiles
  15. What are you allergic to? My scratch test results: pollen, birch, alder, grass, dust, cat hair, cigarette smoke,..... allergies seasonal- starting in Feb. and runs through to Aug. Have learned to start anti allergy pills a few weeks early so body builds up, at height of season I am also allergic to some foods--need Flonase also by April- (sure helps breathing at night & snoring) vacuum alot using clean filters & bags- including my mattress, change pillow slip & bedding often- use frebreeze (anti -allergen) on drapes & furniture. Since ripping up all my carpets and putting in wood floors- have noticed big difference.........also living close to ocean.....on and on SMiles

  17. or Farrington's ??? My son's grew up around d.z.'s and have made tandems but have no interest to date in the sport--wonder if being exposed to it as kids made it become passe? Meanwhile- the son of owner/operaters Jess Harper(my home d.z. Canada) has just logged his 1000th at age of 21 and now an instructor/tandem instructor/freeflyer/rw/demo jumper/bird man/pilot/swooper........etc. He was actually in freefall before he was born. Watching him "grow" over the last 15 yrs. and skydiving with him(he was on my 1000th load) has been absolutely incredible- in a month he will have more jumps logged than me.
  18. Anyone have info or where/how to find it?? thanx, SMiles

  23. thanx for the info Ducky Checked out your link for "building with character" and I am so impressed. Just viewing the timber frame tractor barn...unreal....someone sure loves their tractor??? The size of those beams- is that douglas fir???? The Avondale Estates porch is to die for............. At home here (B.C. Canada) a crew of my son's friends are working summer doing Asbestos removal- shitty job but workers compensation board safety is mandatory atleast. Presently their job sites are old schools in our community and we have our fingers crossed on contract bid to remove the wood...(I love wood).. One old school was built in 1920's and you would not believe the fir....also re: the gymnasiam floor...outrageous.... I be not interested in asbestos fine fibres...(over reaction)...potential to become friable material. SMiles

  25. Me too!! except remodeling the whole bathroom/ tub/ vanity/ toilet/ mirror/ flooring and ceramic tiles/ lighting... I prefer a large pedestal oval sink. Want to purchase narrow high stands of shelves with glass doors to place on each side of pedestal sink. Once vanity removed- and old sink- will be placing ceramic tiles for backsplash of sink..to floor. you may need a plumber to install your sink...? http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/rm_kitchen_bath_counters/article/0,1797,HGTV_3745_1392867,00.html Sinks: Cast Iron Solid cast iron construction stands firm against dents. Its extra-protective enamel coating is fire-polished to retain deep glossy color, and is also resistant to chipping and scratching. Vitreous China A strong material, vitreous china is impervious to absorption. It offers a durable, non-porous surface with a hard, glossy finish. Fireclay Similar in composition to vitreous china, this material offers a smooth, non-porous surface that won’t rust, fade or discolor. As my home was built before 1980 I understand that to remove original linoleum flooring where amosite (brown asbestos) cement products used in glue- it will be a health hazard so need to hire asbestos "busters" to remove it safely (also having kitchen linoleum removed & ripping up carpet as want wood floors..) Still deciding for my bathroom floor... should be durable, water resistant, safe--and, of course, beautiful. I love tumbled marble or Mosaic tiles made from natural stone. Tiles come in a natural or matte finish and provide extra traction, making for less slippery surfaces. SMiles
