Adventurer arrested after becoming first person to cross Channel in chair attached to helium-filled balloons A U.S. adventurer has been arrested by French gendarmes after completing a daring attempt to cross the English Channel using a cluster of helium-filled balloons. Jonathan Trappe was questioned by police officers after landing safely in a field near Moeres, northern France, following his four hour flight. To cheers from well-wishers, he had earlier lifted off from a field in Kent strapped underneath his colourful collection of gigantic inflatables. Wow, I didn't even know there were alternate cuts of some of thos movies. I think Brazil is fantastic - I'd like to see the director's cut. Yeah, Brazil is an incredible movie. It's a very good example of what I was saying about studio executive modifying profoundly a movie in order to make it more consumer-friendly. There was a big fight between Gilliam and Universal about that movie, and it resulted in 3 very different versions: - The "Love conquers all" version (94 minutes) with an happy ending. - The "US" version (132 minutes), made for the american public. - The "european" version (142 minutes) considered by Gilliam to be the "real" version, ending on a dark note. Sometimes, some scenes are deleted because the film must not exceed a certain duration, for commercial reasons (fucking studio executives...). In this case, adding the deleted scenes greatly improves the quality of the movie, since it allows the director to show what he really meant in the first place (adding depth to the characters, showing "unnecessary" but interesting plot details, etc...). It has little direct bearing on that case IMHO. Well, it was the first time a corporation was allowed to patent something living. It was the first step in that direction. At that time, opponents argued that if you allow that kind of patent, it means that without any congressional guidance or public discussion, corporations will own the blueprints of life.
