AFF student struggling with stability
Toasted_Cracker replied to tomahawkpilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had a lot of trouble starting out too. What really helped me was to visualize the entire jump from start to finish in your mind the eintire way up. Take slow deep breaths when the door opens and you await your turn to jump. -
Easiest way to find out is to just go. If you survive I'd say your ok. if you die...well then you wasn't ok. But in all seriousness I'd try getting your heart rate up. If you feel fine after a good jog or something similar I'd say your fine. unless its maybe the jolt from the canopy opening that may concern you? Idk I'm no doctor.

Toasted_Cracker replied to cpoxon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wow, out of those 40,000 jumps I wonder how many cut aways he has had? Apologies if it answers my question in the video, youtube is blocked here at work. -

Coming back after an injury
Toasted_Cracker replied to quesera's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How would they cut the rod if its inside the bone? If the femur breaks again? You may have a bent rod in the middle of it. They would cut the rod @the break, & withdraw both ends. Then, they'd repair the bone. They may need to use a length of donor bone to do this. Barry Sheene won championships racing w/rods in his legs in the Seventies. He used to fear this, too (& he wasn't afraid of much). Orthopaedics have come a long way over the last 30yrs. If you do suffer such an injury. It can be repaired. Oh ok, some people have told me that it would have to be amputated which I kinda doubted that would be the case. I'll have to try to remember to ask my surgeon during my next appointment. -

Coming back after an injury

I was also in a accident in September. I broke my femur, tib/fib and crushed my ankle. I have Titanium rod in my femur now and lots of hardware in and around my ankle. I haven't started jumping again but really want to get back into it this summer. TBH I am very afraid of hitting the leg again. Not sure what would happen if I broke my femur again since I got that rod in it. -

I got my A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toasted_Cracker replied to Melissa126's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Congrats! It took me right at a year to get my "A". But it took me a while to catch on. lol -
ive had 4 line twists on my last 4 jumps. I don't know why either. I had somebody watch me deploy and they said I had a stable deployment but my bag was spinning almost immediately as it came out of the container. None of the line twists was severe enough to cut away but one was close. I plan on asking my rigger this weekend before I make another jump. Maybe have him take a look at my pack job and checking the line lengths. This all started recently to. I don't have many jumps on it but the first 10 jumps I made with my own pack job opened perfect. But now all of a sudden something is a miss. I am jumping a old PD210 btw.

Maybe some sort of radar to help avoid a canopy collision? Just throwing stuff out there. -
My parents know. Hell I even made my mom come watch me do a jump after I finished my AFF last year. I figured it would help ease her mind. I'm 29 BTW.

Fit a 210 into a Wings made for max 190?
Toasted_Cracker replied to Freeflaw's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well, as screwed up as this sounds im jumping a PD210 F111 canopy in a Wings container that is made for a 170 max. Its a royal pain to pack but it will go. I defiantly don't recommend it though. Im getting a pulse 190 as soon as I can. -
I bought my Wings complete system from him last month. I can confirm that he is legit. It was a very smooth transaction all the way around.

My scary jump #13...
Toasted_Cracker replied to Toasted_Cracker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This was my 3rd solo jump after being cleared from AFF. My other jumps have all went fairly smooth, nothing to bad. But this jump was different... I exited the plane at 13,500ft. I got stable fairly quickly and everything was good till about 8000ft when I started a lazy clock-wise spin. No big deal, ive corrected this before I thought. But for some reason when I went to try and correct it I took off like a helicopter! I started spinning so fast that It was pulling my legs and arms out and I felt my self getting starting to get that feeling that I could pass out. I pulled the chute at 5,000ft. Naturally I had several line twists. Which wasn't that big of a deal. I was free of them by 3000ft. I was dizzy the earth was still spinning beneath me. lol I landed fine though it was a bit off target. Im not sure what happened. I am thinking that I must have had my legs wrong. Maybe one bent more than the other? Just how dangerous are flatspins like that? What is the best way to stop them? I think next time though if I feel it speeding up I am just going to go ahead and pull before it gets going to fast again. Thoughts?
