  1. Short version of the question: How big a part does your video card play in editing video? Is it significant, or is rendering time, performance, etc. more dependent on processor speed and ram? Techy version: I recently built a pc that I want to use for video editing, either with Premier or Avid depending on which I find easier to learn. mobo : ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (went all out here for upgradability) cpu: AMD Athlon 64 3200 (should be decent processor) 2gig of PC3200 DDR (should be adequate) a 30gb-7200rpm SATA hard drive for the OS and programs and a 300gb- 10,000rpm SATA hard drive for file storage now the video card is where I skimped. My mobo will except two pci-express video cards linking them via SLI. I'd love to have a couple of 256mb 6800Ultras but that would cost about a grand right now if you can even get them. So, to tide me over until SLI capable cards fall into a reasonable price range, I bought a 128mb ATI Radeon X300 (the cheapest pci-e card I could find with dual monitor capability). the question is, how much of a bottle neck is my video card causing when it comes to video editing? I know it's hurting me with 3D CAD Applications that I run, but is it much of a factor in video editing? If so, what parts? capturing? editing? rendering? I'm sure I'll get a few "buy a Mac" replies, but I built this machine for ~$800 and you can't get a decent Mac for that. Plus, you can't run my necessary CAD apps on a Mac.
  2. I've downloaded it. I think I'll try running it on a spare hard drive just to check it out. I'd back everything up first if you decide to try it.
  3. fyi no need to validate to recieve this download
  4. drop the downplane when you do it from a diamond. the rebound on the wings makes for a nice wrap
  5. Doesn't that mean I helped pay for them? Doesn't that make them at least partially mine anyway? Do they really need two monitor systems to keep track of all the $1000 hammers they buy?
  6. Speaking of marketing... I read somewhere once, that Harley severely under manufactured. This was apparently a conscious decision to keep prices of both new and used bikes up. People would get on two year waiting lists to buy new bikes and when they came in, they could "flip" them for a profit to people who didn't want to wait two years for a new bike. It seems like this is changing. I don't know any of the facts, but it sure seems as if prodution has ramped up, and the availability of new bikes is way up. I wonder how this will affect the used bike market
  7. Where the source pic came from an actual pic ...and I'm with you on the two-wheel sentiment. One of these days, I'm gonna build myself a chopper, and I'd also like to get my hands on a Buell. Oh, and when my wife and I are old, we'll get us a big bagger
  8. LOL Mary... those pictures were taken about a month ago. Actually, Jenn just had her weighed yesterday and she's up to 13.5lbs. At just over 4 mos. she's doin pretty good
  9. .... stands for Scooter Trash In Training gotta get em started early SFW.. all topless pics have discreetly covered
  10. You know there's a reason japanese bike manufactures have been trying like hell for years to make their bikes look just like harleys. Some of them look damn near identical. I rode japanese bikes since I was 14 (kinda hard to afford a harley with paper-route money). I remeber riding my Suzuki Intruder to the Harley dealership in '98 to look at the 95th anniversary models, and thinking maybe, just maybe, I could afford one by the time the 100th anniversary rolled around. Well, in '03 I finally got the Heritage I had always wanted and I've never been happier with any bike. 88B balanced motor, fuel injected, comfortable, plenty powerful, and kick-ass cool as hell!

  16. I do mechanical design work in Autocad and will sometimes put some picture or text into a drawing at a scale so small noone will ever see it. Usually some comment about the damn engineer on the job. I've heard that some computer microchips contain microscopic pictures that the chip designer threw in for giggles.

Noticed the pig sniffer in Moab71 Mary... you weren't speeding were you?!
  18. So on top of her ill treatment, the very first picture she has posted on the web is a little less than flattering. Poor girl. So here's a couple more that come closer to doing her justice. When I bought this digital camera about a year ago, the justification I made for the purchase to my wife was that we would NEED it when we had a family, and if I just happened to strap it on my helmet in the meantime, all the better. Well, at the rate I'm going, it won't take long before the number of baby girl pictures I've taken exceeds the skydiving ones
  19. Well she has about 15 different nicknames right now, who knows what'll stick. My family seems to like wierd nick names. I still call my 30yr old sister Snookie Fritzer Face. To answer your question more directly, we intend to call her Abby.
  20. How could I forget?! Her name is Abigail Lynn Johnson 6lbs 9oz 19-3/4" long I guess they say "long" as opposed to "tall" because they can't stand up?
  21. This is my daughter's very first day on the planet, (Sunday the 25th), and this is how it started out. Not five seconds into this life, and this is the way she's treated?! And you should have seen her face when I told her she was going to have to wait 18 years to make her second skydive. (she has 1 in utero)
  22. The FAI keeps track internationally of world records www.fai.org there's a checklist of requirements there It's impossible to "accidentally" set an official world record as all the participants must have an FAI or NAA license and international judges must be present. Of course that doesn't mean you didn't set an unofficial record so.... what was it?
  23. I'm always a little shocked when I'm on a construction site and hear the foreman talk about having a "safety meeting"
  24. Occasionally, I like to deploy high so everyone else on the load can go b'low me
  25. ok, ok... but it's your resposibility to set up a border checkpoint verifying licenses or logbooks or something. And I think we need to set a limit on the number of wuffo family members too. And maybe a CRW requirement.
