Orlando I-Fly tunnel instructor wanted
artard replied to corpkid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Damnit I thought Orlando was hiring instructors and was about to ask where to send my resume http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya -
Damn man you guys can sitfly really fast http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

I was just about to post a thread asking the same thing. In light of recent events I'm no longer interested in buying a gopro and was wondering if there are any competitors to the gopro 3 black yet? I'm mainly interested in filming 720p at 120fps. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

I use plugfones (the yellows): http://www.plugfones.com/?page_id=16 They cost $14 and work amazingly. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

I would like to see more of the "20 hours in 5 minutes videos"
artard replied to decompresion's topic in Wind Tunnels
Expect a sequel to my video in about... 10 months or so http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya -
I wish I could have included more of my good wipeouts but I had to cut out a lot of good stuff to get it down to a reasonable length http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

The overall video is over about 18 months but the majority of the flying has been in 2012, I'm at about 16-17 hours for the year. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

Hour packages must be flown all at once (you can't buy an hour and then fly it in 10 minute increments). Also the $675 rate is for un-coached time. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

Didn't even notice the title until you guys pointed it out http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

Ok you guys convinced me, I just ordered a G3 from chutingstar. Ebusto, unfortunately I was already using kroop googles and not having any success with them. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

Lately my biggest issue in the wind tunnel has been my goggles impairing my vision and distracting me. If they aren't fogging up they're flapping or moving around my face so I can barely see. I never really had issues with it until I started flying sit/head down at high wind speeds, ie above 85%. I've tried different kinds of goggles, taping them up and strapping them on as tight as they go and it never seems to last more than a minute before my vision goes to shit again. Case in point, last night I was flying head down after having just re-adjusted my goggles/helmet and could see everything crystal clear for the first minute and was flying much better as a result. As soon as I bailed to sit and then went back to head down the position of my goggles had shifted and I was back to barely seeing anything, and the quality and confidence of my flying went back down as well. The problem is bad enough that I'm considering buying a G3 (even though I don't really want a closed-face helmet) just to fix my visibility/distraction problems. Has anyone dealt with issues like this before, and did you have a less-expensive solution than buying a new helmet? http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

Skyventure Colorado does indeed kick ass! http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

Are there any advantages in upgrading to the aluminum locking plates when ordering a G3 or is it just a fashion thing? http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

I think it's a bad idea to plan on skydiving at Burning Man this year. The jump minimum may only be 100 for Burning Sky but I really think it should probably be raised to 200 and even then, you should only be jumping on the playa if you are VERY confident in your ability to land a parachute in challenging conditions. It's not unusual to land in dust storms, variable wind direction, 20mph winds, gusts, etc. Also there is no pre-set landing area and you will be dodging guy wires, pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic when you land. On top of all that, if you've never been to Burning Man before I think it's a bad idea to spend your first year skydiving because that's a big commitment/time investment and you should be focused on having a safe and fun first burn. Non-jumpers are welcome to camp with us at Burning Sky though

I've only been skydiving for 3 years so still don't know shit but it's ridiculous how predictably history repeats itself. No matter how many people pound in there will always be others who believe they are exceptionally skilled and above following a proper progression. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

I have a Viso II and use these gloves: http://www.chutingstar.com/newgear_en/viso-viso-ii-gloves.html I wear gloves every time I jump so it works perfectly for me, and the angle I think is ideal for being easy to see in freefall and under canopy. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

The overconfidence of tunnel instructors

Wouldn't the IBA qualify as the tunnel version of the USPA? http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya -

AFF COURSE - Where to take it?
artard replied to HurleyHucker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Lodi is not a USPA drop zone and therefore the last place you would want to do your student training (among other reasons). You can get certified here in Colorado, but since you are willing to travel I would suggest looking at the A license packages at Skydive the Farm and Skydance Skydiving, they appear to be some of the best deals you can get starting out. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya -
You are allowed to jump with a full face helmet before you have your A license? http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya

What is it like to do a stadium jump?

Here's what it looks like to jump into Broncos stadium during a packed game (not me, a local instructor): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbk5iTtuwi8 http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya -
anyone's got a spare 50$ for our friend Sangi!?
artard replied to virgin-burner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I could continue this derail by saying I haven't touched the gear section of my profile at all since I got my rig in early 2010 and that you getting super defensive about me calling out your lack of observation skills is an excellent distraction from the subject at hand (your poor gear choices) but since I know you aren't going to listen anyway I will instead say good luck with your progression. http://www.mixcloud.com/prajna http://vimeo.com/avidya
