  1. now i'm new to the sport as well, but isn't 31 jumps to soon to jump with an object?
  2. My dad used to skydive and he was an instructor in the 70's and 80's with almost 4000 jumps. Skydiving is actually how my parents met, so when i started it was really exciting and we had a few family trips to the DZ during my AFF
  3. You don't need booties to track good, sure they help for some people but you need them.
  4. you can take this with a grain of salt as I don't have many jumps either. But from what people have told me its not suggested you buy anything older than 20 years (even though this isn't but its close) because it flys so differently. And at such a low jump level it may not be safe. I'm not voting in your poll so I don't skew the results but thats what i've been told
  5. there was a video circulating the internet a while ago where 3 kids did something similar they took a moped and put the back wheel on the merry go round, and the hit the gas which obviously spun the merry go round. Well one of the girls on it flew off and supposedly died, i thought this video was going to have an ending similar to this With all seriousness behind i still laughed lol
  6. Make sure YOU can pack it comfortably. It often sounds good on paper, but buying a tight fitting canopy/container can really piss you off for the next 12+ months. Took me over 100 packjobs on my first rig (very tight 170) before it wasn't a massive ordeal. Really hampered my ability to crank out the jumps and in hindsight I should have gone for something easier to pack. Thats a good idea. I work as a packer at my DZ and packed some pretty tight canopies so i should be able to but its always smart to make sure before you buy.
  7. I'm definitely buying the bigger reserve, I had no intention of buying a 143 i was just wondering if a 160 PDR would fit because it is cheaper. But I can deal with the price for a bigger reserve. I did not buy anything yet. And I am not buying until the summer when I have more money but I'm trying to figure out now how much I need for everything. And I'm not changing my needs to a container. I made a list of the sizes I want and I'm going from there. I realize the container is small but I read in a previous thread that someone easily packed a ZPX Pilot 168 into a rig made for a pilot 132. I have 35 jumps and i weigh 150lbs now. I have about 15 jumps on a 168/170. I do appreciate all your concerns though, its not often you find that people online care about the safety of others
  8. Yeah i figured what they said was right but i wanted to double check, and I know PD makes both of the reserves the only reason i was curious was that the PD Reserve is cheaper and from what i've seen people aren't sure when the optimum is going to be available to buy again.
  9. The mirage container (M2) i am looking fits like this: PD Reserve 143 Optimal Optimum 160 Optimal Sorry if this sounds stupid but would it be impossible to fit a pd reserve 160 into this container?
  10. ok, he said he would sell it for under 2 grand to me
  11. im not sure who did the cypress retrofit and im not sure if he knows. So would you say its a good container? because thats what im worried about, i don't want any flaps to open on me. I know not to freefly with it but i dont want them to flap around in freefall. Also do you have an estimate on how much is fair to pay?
  12. I'm looking to buy my first rig and a friend at my DZ is selling this: Flexon container (DOM '93, looks brand new, no hard housings, collapsible pilot chute but no check window) Sabre 1 170 (not sure of DOM but it only has 10 jumps on it) PD Reserve 176 (DOM '93, i think it has 2 or 3 rides on it) Cypress (currently getting the 8 year, has 4 years left)
  13. ok thanks you i am also looking at one that fits someone who is also 5'11 but 188lbs. I assume that this one will fit me better?
  14. Im looking to buy a wings container built for someone who is 6’1 and 220lbs. I am 5'11 155lbs, do you think it will fit me good?
  15. is that at STL because i knew it happened to someone once on a jav. but i wasn't sure if it happened again
  16. whats your home DZ this sounds like someone i know
  17. i tipped my tandem instructor $10 and it really made him happy
  18. Thanks guys :D and yeah the student rigs are really worn so we tuck the flap between the 2 stiffeners on the container (idk if that makes sense lol) but when people pin check it on the plane they never put it back in that spot which causes it to open in freefall
  19. I wanted to share 2 videos that i just finished editing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdzDo6JuNDg This is my 17th jump, it was my first jump with another person since i got off of AFF, i was able to jump with him because he had his coach rating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJJ1HiXIzfM And this is a coach jump i just did today for my A card (the video is still pending an audio swap so there is no music right now)
  20. I've had a few landings on the 190 with no wind and 1 going downwind (the winds did a complete 180 while i was on my downwind haha). They were alot different but i was able to land standing up and not blow out my knee's. And i am really open to constructive criticism because you can seriously hurt yourself and even die doing this, and i want to be as safe as I can be, going to the 170 seemed like a good idea at the time but not now haha Thanks again everyone! And thanks johan, i just turned 19 and hope be in this sport for life
  21. that is a scary video, good thing you're ok i would have had a heart attack if i saw thta
