  1. What was the "myth" to be tested? To see if freefall air produced enough friction and heat to melt the ice???
  2. Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jf3NV5wLWw&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
  3. If you zoom in, the container looks very loose (=no canopies inside). This is also an old-style Javelin, meaning it could have a DOM of 1992, for example. No reserve PC, no risers, as well...
  4. Depending on the manufacturer. PD says 40 repacks, and then you have to send it to PD for recertification.
  5. There is no one to ban those, since the companies do not operate anymore (Eclipse for sure), apart from selling replacement parts.
  6. Possibly the yellow cutaway cable not being guided thru the Collin's Lanyard loop?
  7. How about the outside camera view? Would be easier to judge the reserve PC launch.
  8. This loop and cutter was examined in the national forensic (ballistic division) government laboratory.
  9. Do you have a source for this? Sparky I live in Poland and saw this notice. Yes, the Polish "FAA" reinstated Argus about two weeks ago. A week later it was banned by most container manufacturers. After that, the Polish "FAA" reminded riggers that they should obey the manufacturers' ban, when it comes to individual brands.
  10. Please read the translation of key points below. From what I know, Argus was reinstated based on the belief that Aviacom fixed the failed cutter (as it turned out, it is not true, since cutters manufactured after 2007 also failed (in Texas) ). As for the freebag being out, see also see the rest of the below thread, from the pointed post down. Final Polish report will be out in about a month (in English). http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3817893;search_string=melted;#3817893
  11. How about the audible that warns you without sound? Further protect your hearing and be warned. Optima II with a LED, or with LCD: http://www.l-and-b.dk/products/accessories
  12. How can one damage a blade during the repack if it is hidden in the cylinder... Anyways, I was basing my info on the results of the official Polish GOVERNMENT investigation, which included the results from the main government-owned criminal laboratory and its 'ballistic investigation' division. Read here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3817893#3817893
  13. Not so silly, when you consider that, in case of Polish fatality with Argus, the blade got damaged just by hitting the soft reserve closing loop...
  14. Bill - just keep clicking the left arrow on the link below (tons of pics!): http://www.flickr.com/photos/vintageparachutegear/5414131808/in/set-72157622676844920/lightbox/#/
  15. Maybe it was cheaper and quicker this way (no lawyer costs, no 2-year lawsuits).
  16. Back a few years ago Bill Booth was the man in the U.S., when it came to Vigil U.S. center. The U.S. Vigil address even pointed to the RWS office. I don't know if that still continues. Bill - feel free to add or correct any of this. And, the PIA President is Cliff Schmucker, the top U.S. guy from Airtec company (Cypres), and probably the second most important Airtec person in the world (after the inventor Helmut Cloth from Germany).
  17. Here are some pics from this accident: https://viewer.zoho.com/docs/gbaAqg
  18. For a refresh- here is my translation of the key points from the preliminary report on the Polish fatality with Argus in 2009: (The final report is completed, and is being officially translated into English now). http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3817893#3817893
  19. I remember the Airtec article in Skydiving Magazine, and recall that Airtec's conclusion was that "it is not possible to reach activation speeds and still land safely". That is why the initial author (test jumper) wrote a reply to Airtec (which was never published). So, Airtec basically reasurred everyone that you can do whatever you want and the Cypres will not fire (even though they say, that it 'may' happen, they lean heavily on the side that it is impossible). Airtec did not even change this after Jay Moledzki had a Cypres fire during a swoop in France (where he had to have an AAD due to a law). OK, I just found it: Original test jumps: http://swoop.skydiveworld.com/c_article/by_the_numbers_1.htm Airtec response in Skydiving Magazine: http://www.cypres-usa.com/october_2003_skydiving_letter.pdf Never published response by the initial test jumper: http://swoop.skydiveworld.com/c_article/response_to_airtec.htm
