how many active skydivers are there world wide??
skydiverek replied to gstutt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This number seems way high to me. Maybe with a license, but not active. Correct, with 'paid licenses'. 35,000 in the US alone, correct (USPA members)? And the US makes 50% of world jumps, so I figured there must be 50% more paid licenses worldwide, making the other half of jumps. -

I am pretty sure there are around 70,000 active licensed skydivers worldwide. -
Javelin has magnetic riser covers now? I know I saw such Javelin about four years ago, but never again. These were normal tucktabs (folded 180 degrees into their pockets) with magnets. I wonder what the release force was...

It depends how long. The optimum and not optimum scenario is shown in the attached four files. There was also PDF file "3 ring construction manual.pdf" on the Internet, but I cannot find it now...

I wonder if it would manage to pull a reserve in case of jumper being belly to earth and cutting away a bag-lock. Looks like lots of force would be lost due to friction and the extreme angle at which it would pull...

1. This is one 'gossip' that I heard. 2. Second one is that Cypres disarms itself after sensing an opening, and if you cutaway after that, then it needs some time to 're-arm' itself, even though you already are at its activation altitude and speed. 3. Third one is that in case where Cypres does not fire when it should fire (lets say: freefall all the way to the ground), then it will switch itself off on impact (detecting sudden slow down from 120 mph to 0 mph in a fraction of second). The reason for the switch off would be that then one could blame the jumper on not turning the AAD on prior to the fatal jump (Cypres does not store any date and time, so it is not possibbe to conclude the last time Cypres was switched on). Is any of these gossips/rumours (1 or 2 or 3) true?

mini 3-rings on a full sized 3-ring system
skydiverek replied to scottherbert's topic in Gear and Rigging
Keep in mind that the mechanical advantage will be lower. From the 3-ring inventor: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=124861;search_string=mechanical%20advantage;#124861 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1898947;search_string=mechanical%20advantage;#1898947 -

When I first processed that, I assumed that it must have been because of the increased repack cycle from 120 days to 180. The +/- 6 months grace period was introduced in 2003, along with Cypres2. The 180 day (U.S.) repack cycle was introduced just few years ago.

Audible altimeter freefall warning altitudes ...
skydiverek replied to JohnnyBoulder's topic in Safety and Training
I believe Quattro can be set for 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 alarms. Just like Optima can be set for 1 or 2 or 3 alarms. Just set the SAME altitudes for the alarms. -
