  1. I'd just never heard of a riser getting caught on that particular flap of the container and thought someone might be interested. As for the horseshoe, isn't that what it's called when the canopy snags somewhere on the jumper? Sorry if I used the wrong terminology. Don't mind me, I am slightly anal retentive about these sorts of things.
  2. Howdy, I've been reading about a couple of reported incidents here where people have had main risers get stuck under flaps for various reasons and thought I'd mention this similar story. The following is only a story related to me by a jumper I spoke to for about five minutes recently, and a couple of observations of mine about it. Sorry there is not much more detail: Jumper tells me that a few months ago he deployed his main and had a mal (more on that later). He cutaway and deployed his reserve yet his main remained snagged somehow on the container, he dragged the main all the way until landing but walked away un-injured. Upon landing he found that one of the main risers had snagged on the reserve container. The rig he was jumping was a Vector 3, he said the left hand riser had snagged on a piece of material exposed on the bottom of the reserve container. I have attached a picture of my own Vector 3, with this feature indicated, it's essentially a tiny hole with about enough room to wiggle your finger into. On my own container you'll see there are slinks. The container the other jumper was using at the time I spoke to him had rapide links sheathed in a soft plastic housing that came up a little bit above the top of the link. My container is a V353 (sized for a 190) and the other jumper's container looked sized for a 170, so I suspect the reserve container was slightly shorter than mine, which would allow the main risers to extend further down the side of it when packed. In the pic attached, I'm pulling at the lines from the right hand side to bring the risers down as far as they could conceivably go when packed. I didn't get any more out of the jumper involved and didn't verify that it was the rapide link that was snagged, but assuming that it was the rapide link that somehow got snagged in that little gap of material I'd also assume there would be virtually no chance of this happening with slinks. Does that sound like a feasible scenario?
  3. That is a good list. I've seen almost everything on it and they are all excellent movies... except for anything voted on there recently. E.g I haven't seen 176 'How to Train Your Dragon', but if it is better than 177 'The Wages of Fear', I will eat my rig. Just one I noticed on there, 'The Night of the Hunter', is an incredible piece of cinema. There's too many to recommend... but I think a grown man who hasn't seen 'The Wild Bunch' must somehow feel that something is missing from his life...
  4. ... Predator, Commando, Bloodsport, Cobra ...
  5. Yes! Some of those films, all the way back, are still incredible things to watch. Battleship Potemkin, Sunrise, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, amazing movies. Another great movie from around that time is 'M'. You don't find many movies out there about child killers, it's still a taboo topic but done perfectly back then. Those movies will never get old.
  6. Johnmatrix I dont produce wingsuits darling. But that can all change tonight.
  7. Giselle I think it would be a good idea for you to post some pics here of you wearing your first suit design.
  8. Because it truly does suck donkey balls. It sucked donkey balls when it was released and it was laughably stupid even by the standards of the day. Horribly, horrible science fiction. Not to be confused with the excellent 'Forbidden Planet'. Saw that at double feature followed by '2001'. Missed the start of Forbidden Planet though. :( (still, it was a great movie)
  9. Damn right. I haven't seen the Blu Ray but I saw it on 70mm once and was fucking crisp. The SFX are still great I think - as in, you can believe what you're seeing. That's all they're meant to do. Now it's all just ridiculous CGI, its so overdone it's become a new definition of 'fake'. Just about all of Kubrick's movies hold up well today, even 'A Clockwork Orange'. Sure its not quite as shocking now (as I've heard it was in the 70s) but there's still nothing else quite like it. That movie still grabs people by the balls. I reckon I've seen it about 10 times and its still awesome. One movie I watched recently that I felt had not aged well was 'Leon / The Professional'.
  10. Just saying if you exit from 1.5m you should be OK to land it, if there's no forward speed. For forward speed I estimate the compensation to be 4 shots of Jim Beam prior to exit for every 5km/hr forward to reduce injury. (seriously it hurt. Don't try this.)
  11. I did this once when I was really drunk. Jumped up as high as I could on the spot and did a stable hard-arch until impact from about 1.5m. I credit the softness of my friend's lawn for my lack of injuries (it did hurt a lot though). I hope this data can contribute in some way to modern wingsuit development.
  12. Bedbugs are tough but they will not survive without food. If you keep the rig sealed in an airtight bag when not in use they should eventually die in there (assuming there are some in there). Or maybe if you just left it in the car boot when not in use they would just leave it of their own accord....
  13. I don't think so. Sure, the video made barely any sense, but neither did I a lot of the time when I was 22. Just seemed like the average ramblings of a young person just beginning to use their brain, stumbling around aimlessly in newly-discovered intellectual areas without any sense of purpose. When you add to that the same thing that most people here probably smoked at one time or another around that age... sadly I think this is just another young person who chose to address their emotional problems by throwing the world away. It's just a pity for the victims that he lived in a country with such easy access to firearms.
  14. Again, he could had just Googled it, as I did. Took me five seconds. Not my fault, nor the restaurants fault that the guy is an idiot. He should had just ordered what was on the menu or gone elsewhere. The fact that it's in Punchbowl would also be a good hint.
  15. Sydney Got ahold of the Australian menu - doesn't change between stores Looks like pig IS on the menu. Actually the bacon wasn't the problem. I think you'll hear the dude on video telling Mr KFC that his new rims are shithouse and also making homophobic comments about him in reference to the 'weak body-kit' on his Skyline. Together with the fact that he blew all 8 of his subs on the weekend cruising around Bondi I think it was just too much for him to handle.
  16. Try just a single S-fold, has worked for me so far. I've heard it can open slightly quicker, but I don't mind.
  17. No. I think the vast majority of Australian residents of Asian heritage are of Chinese descent. I'm pretty sure Cantonese or Mandarin would be more common here than Japanese. Many are the children of parents rich enough to afford an overseas education for their child. Australia has not been 'white, English speaking and Christian' for some decades now, even then (assuming it ever really was) it was only a brief phase following 40,000 years of 'black'.
  18. I'm curious about this... I thought highly-loaded cross braces weren't considered suitable for wingsuiting? What's different about this one? (no, I'm not thinking of getting one)
  19. Which lens is that? Also (sorry to piggyback!) what's a good HD lens with the least fisheye effect?
  20. Just remember to set your canopy alarms for the same altitudes as your freefall alarms ... Thanks. I'm just looking into audibles at the moment and want to get one that gets a lot of freefall data so I can turn into a massive wingsuit nerd as soon as I'm ready. I've heard nothing but good things about L+B but the 119 limit seems a bit of a problem.
  21. Not really on topic either but is the Neptune still the hot tip as a general audible for WS? From what I've read in other threads the Neptune is the only one that measures longer than 119, just wondering if I've missed anything.
  22. I was a little worried about this stuff too but I've heard it's the kids who nag the living bejesus out of their skydiver parents that end up doing this. In that case I think its a pretty cool thing to do. I did my first AFF at 16 and it was the best thing I ever did. I'm still not sure how my dad talked my mum into letting me do it though.
