  1. This time of year? It's more like this. Quote Thought that was a cute little animation. Whoever makes these has made a couple more skydiving ones, they're pretty funny. 10. Sweet, I just PMed him! Thanks for the name reference! I live in NV and have been looking at two helicopter flight schools in California. If I can finish my masters this semester, I want to start flight school in January or somewhere around there. I have done research on these schools, but am looking for personal experiences from other people on where they went. When I finish my lab work, I'll have more time to go visit schools and learn about their instruction, fleet, job placement etc. I'd also like to know how it was for people freshly off of their commercial to become a flight instructor to time build for hours. Did your school help you find an instructor job? How long did it take to build the hours to start applying for jobs? Where do you work now, and what type of flying do you do? Anyway, there's my bible. If you have answers to any of these questions, fire away! Thanks in advance
  11. Hey all, Do you know any heli pilots? Also, do you know any heli pilots who are also skydivers? I'm looking for helicopter pilots who wouldn't mind chatting with me on a few things about whirly birds. If you are one or know somebody who I could get in touch with via email or whatever and that person wouldn't mind talking to me, I would appreciate it greatly! P.S. I promise I'm not a stalker And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  12. I just discovered earplugs my last trip to the dz. Even though I wear a full face, it makes my trip to altitude the way down much more comfortable. I will now wear them on all jumps! 14. wouldn't you skin and properly prepare it before marinating it. If you're going to eat a cat, at least have the decency to kill it quickly and not torture it. Quote That would be the rational thing to do, right? Unfortunately, I can say with some certainty that this guy most likely has a mental illness. He talked about how he thought the cat was greedy and rude, how he wanted to punish it. Psychological illnesses tend to remove rational cognitive thinking from situations. It makes me sick to hear things like this. This was ONE guy who just HAPPENED to get caught...how many other countless people out there are torturing animals?? Too effing many. 15. Not sure if anybody has mentioned it, but Simon Birch is a wonderful movie And also, Meet Joe Black is one of my favorites as well. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  16. Unless you have a thyroid problem or some other illness, losing weight is not that complicated... work off more calories than you consume. I've been in fitness for a long time. Eat raw food, don't consume sugar or processed meals, don't consume large amounts of meat or fatty foods. Eat small meals. Do cardio workouts. Don't overstuff with carbs. I cut all the time and those are the golden rules. Your body will thank you for losing 60 lbs, and so will the people you jump with. Its not fun to constantly work your ass off to stay with an overweight person on a jump. The bigger you are, the more baggy your jumpsuit will have to be to slow you down. Losing weight is your best option. It will benefit you as well as your instructors and fellow fun jumpers. 17. We do have the opposite problem! I ordered an EXTRA SMALL Mamba and the lady at Bonehead gave me MORE padding than normal to put in the helmet and it still doesn't fit! I found that Cookie smalls fit me perfect, so I will stick with them. You said you have a Mamba...are you totally opposed to a non flip visor? Or do you think you could go either way? I'm not sure if a flip up would be more convenient or not. 18. Alright, well if anybody cares or is curious, the GAS with flip visor will be available in early October. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  19. I think it would be a great gig if you can get on, but right now, at least where I live, many services such as law enforcement and fire are being cut back drastically. I have a friend who tried for three or four years to get on to the Reno Fire Dept which has about 20 stations, and that was when the economy was good. Now that it stinks, they are on a hiring freeze, many have been laid off and they have actually closed some fire stations and cut back employees on others. My friend finally got on, but is not making good money. Like others have said, you need to be a top candidate to be competitive. Think long and hard about if you really want to do it, don't just make an overnight decision. Go visit fire stations and talk to the guys. Read info on the internet about how to get started. But remember...firefighting isn't all about fighting fire. Most calls are medic calls without a hint of smoke. And many times, especially if you get placed at a slow station, your work could really lack mental stimulation. But there are also awesome parts of the job as well that are no doubt very rewarding. If you decide its what you want to do, go for it! You only live once...might as well do what makes you happy :) Good luck And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. 20. And yes, I did contact the manufacturer but have not heard back yet, so no flaming! And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  21. Does anybody know when Cookie is gonna start selling the Gas with the flip up visor? I bought a Mamba for the flip up visor, and the extra small is just too damn big I've LOVED the fit of my cookie open face and want to know if the wait is do-able for the Gas flip up. 22. I love my sabre2...every once in a while I'll have an off heading opening, but it doesn't happen often. I dont shove the nose in, and wrap the tail fairly tight. My snivels are perfect for me, about 800 feet long. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. 23. While you *may* be able to get gear rigged up for you, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for people to keep up with you. Heavy people fall much faster than light and normal weight people. Because of your weight, you will 'sink out' because you just can't fall slow enough to stay with a group of jumpers in the air. Also, jumps don't always go as planned...exits can go to shit, people knock into each other and fall into each others' burbles...If you fell into a burble at your size and hit into somebody in the air you can seriously injure another jumper. I'm quite the opposite. I'm too light, and spent my fair share of jumps spectating from above because I couldn't get down. It's really frustrating when you can't stay with a group, as you will no doubt see. I now have to wear a 16.5 lb weight belt when I jump so I can fall as fast as everybody else. People are not trying to be mean. Many of these people are some of the best in the sport and know what they are talking about. There are many stories on dropzone.com of heavy people wanting to skydive...they work their asses off and lose weight so they can fit in the gear and skydive SAFELY. I would suggest to you to start on a serious program to lose weight. Your body and your wallet will no doubt thank you for it. When you reach a weight where you will no longer be a liability, start looking around for gear manufacturers that can put you into something. Just my $0.02 Good luck And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  24. Ya, but then you have to deal with expensive plane tix, luggage, car rentals, blah, blah...in the end, it will end up being a longer trip. The tunnel in SF is 4 hours by car from Reno. Use the tunnel in SF, meet local coaches, get to know local jumpers so you can join in on tunnel time and meet new skydiving friends. To the OP, we are always planning tunnel trips with Reno and Cali jumpers, so PM me and I will put you on the group contact list
  25. I live in Reno too. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
