Knee jerk often? Geezzuusss, it was a fuckin JOKE...untwist yer panties! No actually, my panties rarely get in a wad, thanks for asking...its the fact that you are being very rude to others who don't agree with you. It's actually not a joke when you start calling people names for stating their opinion. so far, 7 uptight women, no surprise, BUT, One uptight male? Quote Don't be so quick to label people uptight women, or 'uptight assholes' as you said in another thread. None of these people are offending you, but you are so quick to say something very negative about people who share a different viewpoint than yourself. You are not adding anything to a rational argument, IMO. I could go either way on this whole Mirage shenanigan. There are certainly worse ads out there, but the fact that they MISSPELL words on their ad broadcasted to thousands of skydivers (hello elementary education spellcheck?) and they choose to use ads that put down some of their customer base is extremely unprofessional, especially for a company that is supposed to represent safety and top notch gear performance. Even if I were on the fence on what rig to buy next, their behavior on this whole issue has probably swayed me to not buy from them. I don't hate them, I just won't buy from them. I have more respect for companies who are upstanding and professional on multiple dimensions. Gear stolen at lodi this afternoon

When I'm dead and gone and can look at the way I lived my life, I will be proud of the fact that I had never been unfaithful. I can't imagine cheating on somebody, especially the wonderful person I'm with now. I would never want to cause that type of pain on the person I chose to share my life with. I despise cheating And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8

Gear stolen at lodi this afternoon
TiaDanger replied to AndrewKarnowski's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've heard break-ins are not uncommon at Lodi...the DZ is right on a major Cali highway, so its often a target for non-skydiving thieves because there are always a lot of cars in the parking lot. After my backpack got stolen, I don't leave ANYTHING in my vehicle, especially gear. Gear stolen at lodi this afternoon

A backpack of mine got stolen out of my car at the Lodi DZ last year...we filed a police report and about a week later the police called me and told me they recovered it...it ended being douchebag non-skydiving illegals that target parking lots, which seems to be a problem in that area. I'm sure you already have, but file a police report and keep on them about it! I hope you get your stuff back! I agree, its fantastic. The plot of the movie seems to be very relevant today as well. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8

My grad student office is in this room whose heat stops after about an hour after it comes on. So from about 11am on, there is no heat. None. Nadda. In the afternoon and evening the room LITERALLY gets BELOW 60 degrees everyday. You can only layer so much before you start looking like a ridiculous marshmallow. We are also not allowed to have space heaters! Its torture. Yay for higher ed not having enough funding anymore for proper building maintenance!!! Is your freezer still working? Recently, my fridge stopped but my freezer was still working fine. Someone told me to unplug the whole thing for about a day.I unplugged it and let it set overnight. The next day I plugged it back in and everything booted up just like normal. I also learned to pack on a brand new canopy I agree with everyone who said to do the first s-fold at the top of the cacoon, get it in the bag, then do the push the second s-fold (near the lines) into the bag. That way you are only having to control half your canopy at a time. Also, what helped me is when your cocoon is on the ground (pre s-fold), to control the outer layer from the bottom with your hand. If you can keep the outer layer taut from underneath, you will prevent the 'guts' from spilling out when you start your folds. Psycho packing is a different style of packing where part of the packjob is rolled instead of folded (pro pack). And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8

For those that missed it, it was a great feature. Ed Pawlowski is a very dear friend and mentor of mine and it showed not only the sport, but the bond and friendship of those that do it. Gave me goosebumps

You are discussing two different things...first you believed its better to do the 'one hand per handle' approach, then you begin talking about an instance where a gear failure resulting in a main not fully disonnected. The quote you made above has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. I would not fire my reserve into a main that was fully cut away unless I was 'knocking-on-deaths-door-low'. I would do everything I possibly could to get that main off of me before I play rushin roulette by deploying my reserve into a ball of shit. I personally do not use (and was taught against using) the one hand per handle approach that you suggest. I've had similar experiences as you on buying gear on the Classifieds. A girl was selling two jumpsuits (freefly suit and pants). I asked her how she wants payment and she said she'll just send them...if they don't fit just send them back, and if they do fit we'll figure out payment later. Very surprising for someone to do that in this day and age. They fit, so I immediately paid for suits, shipping and paypal charges. Opposite that, I bought my rig from a PD factory team member who would not even send it to my well-known rigger as a third party until he got payment. I was afraid as it was a huge purchase, but I figured he is very well known in the sport and trusted he would send it, which he did and everything went great. As fair as it is to ship a rig to a third party to make sure the deal goes smoothly for both parties, I personally would have a hard time shipping it to a rigger I didn't know, regardless of his reputation, cuz ya just never know... If the buyer demanded a third party I would go through someplace like Chutingstar, but if they didn't I wouldn't ship it unless I got payment in full. Easy to say sitting in comfort typing on your computer with a few more skydives under your belt, huh? Ryye...it will most likely open without incident. After several good openings, excessive worrying will subside and it becomes fun dialing in opening characteristics. Oh ya, and also adding on to what somebody else said about the tandems at Lodi...its like the lines are invisible to them But, when you have over 200 tandem students walking in and out of that hangar DAILY during the summer, you tend to notice it more. The dogs however, are as princess-footed as ever, I don't ever see them walking on the lines...and they have FOUR legs to control to our two! This is pretty neat. How was it that they were able to switch the engines on for a short time until they petered out again? http://www.wimp.com/emergencylanding/ How many of you have been in or landed an A/C that lost one or all engines? I am comfortable exiting at... (non-emergency)
TiaDanger replied to fcajump's topic in Safety and Training
I don't know. I guess I'm just primed from reading about so many incidents and fatalities that could have been reduced from having a little more altitude. I haven't had a cutaway yet, so I don't yet feel comfortable in exiting or pulling low unless I have to. For petes sake, some guy good enough to do bigways in Arizona a couple weeks ago fought his 3 rings thinking it was his reserve handle until he had a Cypres fire. I referenced this incident to demonstrate that not every cutaway and reserve pull is clean and fast. And I don't know how many times I've read about fatalities due to a reserve that didn't have enough time to open. Granted, incidents like this can happen even if people pull higher, but they are more likely to happen if you do not give yourself a workable amount of altitude. Give me 500 more clean, consistent openings. I'll probably change my mind And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
