  1. You're totally right. I emailed the mods and asked them to change my username to 'TiaSafeMode' Ha! And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  2. Alright that makes sense, but the fact is that you are still low and now having to deal with a malfunction. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  3. Ok, that makes sense now. I forgot about the differences in deployment speeds and the effort it takes to slow down. Ok..say you exit at 2000 and are open under a malfunction at say, 1500 ft. You recognize immediately you need to chop and pull reserve which takes say, 3 seconds. You do not have an RSL or Skyhook. You are under a reserve at say, 900 or 1000ft. I'm not taking any reserve pc or canopy hesitation into consideration, which would put you even lower. Do my arbitrary altitudes seem reasonable for an imaginary situation? It seems that 1000 ft may be fine in an ideal situation, but what if there are hang ups along the way? I admit, I'm a turbine baby, and it seems the risk of a mal at a low altitude is not worth it. I also sometimes forget that some people normally pull at 2000ft regardless of exit altitude. I'm still pulling at 3500 ft, so anything lower than 2500 seems ominous And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. 4. +1 ...I would think it would be the opposite?...that snatch force at terminal velocity at 4000 would be much more abrupt resulting in a faster canopy extraction than a subterminal deployment at 3200. It's also interesting to hear so many people comfortable exiting at 1500 or 2000. For those who this applies to, are you ever worried about having such little altitude to deal with a nasty mal? If I had to bail at 2000 bc of an A/C emergency I would. But I wouldn't get on a 2000 ft hop n POP load And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. 5. I went on my first tracking dive maybe 60 jumps ago. The group knew there were inexperienced jumpers on the dive and inherently slowed it down without saying anything. I felt like I did pretty good for my first tracking dive! The next jump they told everybody it would be a bit faster then the last. Thinking I would have no problem keeping up, I was completely left in the dust and looked like an idiot. Bottom line-you don't even know what you don't know. Get in the tunnel with a good coach that challenges you and you will realize how much you have to learn. At 48 jumps I would say you should keep your advice to yourself, and only worry about yourself as you have maybe 45 mins of working time in the air. We are both newbies and at this stage we should be only asking for advice, not giving it out. 9. Sweet! We will be dressed up as corpse bride and groom Had I known sooner we would be going and that I could win a Mirage container, I would have started working on my costume last year! I'm really exited for this Boogie. And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. D.S. #8.8
  10. My boyfriend and I are going to the Halloween Boogie in Eloy. This is our first boogie, and we don't know many people outside of our Cali DZ. We are super excited to meet other jumpers! Are any DZ.commers gonna be there? If so, I'd love to meet you! 11. I only do RW now, and I love love love it! I really want to excel (or should I say improve) at RW before I start freeflying.
  12. You guys are gonna love this...the actual word of the day, according to dictionary.com, is 'juju'...an object superstitiously believed to embody magical powers
  13. Boogie! The winter is just starting, you have the whole season to ski! Or, do what your gut tells you
  14. He has had 10 fatalities in the past 10 years...in the 10 years prior to that...10 fatalities! You do realize that several of those have been crew accidents and an alleged suicide, right? You cannot blame the DZ for those types of fatalities. Fatalities like those can occur anywhere. 15. It just depends on the rig...all the containers are probably only a year old, the cypres ages are probably all variable, and the canopies are new to fairly new. So if you're looking for something on the lower end of that price range you still are getting a great container, but the Cypres may be a bit older. I'm almost certain that even though that while $4000 may seem steep, you still are getting a great deal on the gear. Look at Bills stuff, look in the classifieds section here, look on the used section of paragear, chutingstar, sunshine factory, etc, and you'll find something sooner or later.
  16. I've really enjoyed reading this thread, there are so many different reasons people find this amazing sport and I love hearing them
  17. All the rental gear there is for sale...if you like it, tell Bill you're interested in it and he will offer you a fair price. Student gear at Lodi is top notch. 22. I'm with you all...my moms best friend, one of the most wonderful people in the world, almost died from colon cancer. Cancer free after treatment! Then a year ago they found cancer in her lung, did surgery, and gave her two years to live then here comes brain cancer to add severe insult to otherwise horrible injury...had brain surgery about a month ago. Why?? Raising a glass to Cheri and all of your close friends mentioned in this thread... 24. I have to give a shout out to Bonehead for stand up service. I bought an XS Mamba that, after a few jumps, I just accepted that it was too big for my freakishly small head. I posted it on DZ.com to sell it. Naomi contacted me and offered to send me a REvolve to see if it fit better than my Mamba, and if so, keep the REvolve and send the Mamba back. The REvolve fits my head nice and snug. The ratchet system is fantastic and I always have an easy time lifting the visor. Its awesome on the ride up to lift the front section up, much better than just lifting the visor on regular full faces, IMO. Peripheral vision is excellent with the visor down. I love my new helmet and can't say enough about Bonehead customer service.
  25. I heard that my DZO Bill Dause never pulls below 4000 ft, and he has 34,000 jumps. There is some wisdom to be learned from somebody with that many jumps. The extra freefall is not worth it IMO.
