Static line in Northern California?
rickt86 replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I flew at Sac for part of the winter, its how I ended up out here, but they now have a full time pilot, so I have been jumping as much as I can till I head back to reality in 2 weeks, and my jumping out here includes at skydance. Lodi has a bad rap, not only out here, but back east. I went out there for a day and checked it out and chose not to jump. I also help out here at the manifest desk when they need it here as well as sussex/xkeys, and I have seen people from Lodi show up and the paper work is so ass backwards. "I got 55 jumps, no gear, and a few lines signed off on this A card thing in the back of my log book, but I want a license for Zhills when I visit grandma" is very common. Its just my opinion, I am the operations manager at Sussex, and its a huge head ache when people show up from non USPA DZs. I did not jump there for a few reasons that you can figure out based on why a good amount of people don't. It's not a bad DZ, but it would be scary to me to send someone to do an AFF there. Sac has a MASSIVE landing area, and Skydance is close behind on size, just more obstacles. I'm also curious...why do you feel this way? I mean, your profile says you work at Skydive Sac (hence the big plug for them), but have you ever actually jumped there? Lodi also has outs and huge student fields, and they also focus on students 'big time'. Gear is new and exceptionally well maintained, so I'm having a hard time swallowing your notion of a questionable AFF program. -
I am all set to go Wed-Sat, borrow my cousins car since he will be in utah those days and lives semi close. What is there for sleeping, im only 23, I could even sleep in the car, is that allowed at the dz? Are there bunk houses, anyone looking for a roommate at a cheap local hotel, let me know, my AIM SN is rickt150 is anyone is.

As of now I will be there Mon-Wed, my ride to Orlando is Wed morning, I could head up that way early WED or late Tue night, but is anyone driving back like fri/sat to orlando airport so I can get a ride to the airport (have employee benefits on united) so I just need a flight with a seat!

I would be VERY careful doing AFF at Lodi, not sure who does static line up here, dont think anyone does, but for $200 more he can do it as Lincoln (skydive sacramento) which is a bit better of a place for doing AFF, many outs and a huge student field. They also focus on students big time here, its a smaller dz so it has an at home feel. Shoot them a call the number is on the website skydivesac.com -
I will be in FL around Orlando next week, I see Deland is having the EXPOS later that week, but Sebastian is a hair closer to where im going, I will have a car, should I goto Deland or Sebastian, will most likely jump tue or wed, have about 60 jumps, which is more novice friendly? Have jumped at Sussex/Skydive Sac/Skydance so far.

After The Ranch, Sussex, Cross Keys, a few in Florida, Rafford, the farm...Should I keep going??? We are talking about the DZ that took out a website about a Cessna Tandem DZ nearby showing how they own a turbine, big landing area...ETC and then called it unbiased and neutral and not affiliated with either DZ? I am sure someone really is paying big bucks each month for the google ads on a neutral unbiased website fear has a nasty smell to it and is oh so unattractive...guess thats why I have had this huge desire to not cross the Hudson...

49 jumps 1 cutaway 1 in 49

I was just out there last month looking at some stuff, and my buddy Sean is out there shooting video (knoxville), who happens to also be from the Ranch lol. Pacific is more friendly to lower jumps, but if your there early and the winds are light both places will let you jump, I could have even jumped with an A, but I also was with my DZO from CA. You do not need/get flotation, the outs are not bad if you plan them early, bad for last minute outs. Smaller landing area, but nothing bad compared to where I learned to jump, just need to be heads up. I only have 40 jumps so don't take too much advice from me, but thats my take as a pilot, who went there with my dzo, and I have 40 jumps. Def a friendly crowd!

Would you recommend Lodi for a first tandem jump?

the fact it is not a uspa dropzone is enough for me -
def cool DZ, now that there is finally some time away from the rain, come check it out, been slow out here, so we could use some friendly faces along with the sun =)

Skydive Sussex is still open 7 days a week, all the other local DZs are Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon, but Sussex is 7 days per week weather allowing, their hours are short some days so phone ahead, but they have a lot of AFP students so it is a great place to get week day jumps, they run the Cessna 182 but with just an AFP student/instructor, so they have 2 extra slots frequently! If you bring a load the plane can be yours for most the day! Just phone first because some days they open a little late/close a little early, otherwise the place has been fairly busy and this week had fun jumpers from other DZs around all week making it a pretty cool place!

Hello everyone, My name is Rick and I am working in the Manifest office at Skydive Sussex. I am a commercial pilot, and working towards flying there as well, I got a little time already. We are open weekends right now, but will go 6 days a week (closed Tue) as of the 16th of May. We should have a really good weekend opener as well this year, which I will keep posted on here. We are looking to get a good fun jumper base built this year, so swing on by one of these weekends! Right now we have Gary doing tandem on the weekend, with either Scuba or Simeon as the secondary. We are still sort of looking for an additional packer. I am always here if anyone has a question.
