  2. You want to hear my experience with Verizon? I actually had the very first Blackberry in Peoria with Verizon and subsequently Nextel. Verizon sold me the phone, the services, etc. Then when what they told me would work wasn't even available in the market yet, the still thought it was OK to charge me for those services anyway. Out of all of providers I've had the places I've been, scarily, AT&T was the best followed by Nextel up until this. Verizon was the worst. Had set up auto payments with Verizon and they were pulling the money out of my account for 6 other people every month. (Note I didn't say they were pulling money for my bill ) I ultimately had to close the checking account before they got the clue and figured out where my money went. ----- ~~~Michael
  3. As for UPS, I knew I should have taken a picture of the box my new Canon 20d arrived it. I politely refused shipment and asked the driver to take it back. I'm not thinking the box was supposed to rattle like it did. Anyhow, chill on DHL. It is possible that the shipper fubar'd the address in the mail room and doesn't want to admit to it. I've had it happen with all of them so it's a crapshoot when you send something. Anyway, that's what the insurance is for, just make the shipper deal with the issue and not you - not your problem it didn't get to you now is it? ----- ~~~Michael
  4. All in one day. Simply put, 18 month Nextel customer and I've been having an annoying issue with my Blackberry where it will drop calls, even when it has a strong signal. Their solution, swap the phone (at my expense $35) for the third time, or trade up to the next model Blackberry for $249 + $35 activation and two year extension to my contract. After explaining that the solution was not acceptable to 'save' my business, I offered my own solution - I'll swap one more time (at their expense) and if that doesn't work, they'd give me the upgraded phone (refurbished was fine) to see if that solves the issue. (note: their offer to upgrade could have been done on my own and gotten the same deal). End result, got 'mad' and threatened to cancel since Nextel wasn't holding up to their end of the contract and was politely advised that If I wanted out of my contract, there was a $200 early term fee. This rep was a girl, but she has some hairy kahunas somewhere. Anyhow, called the local office again (where i originally started) and they did a 3 way call with the last chance people again. End result, got the upgraded phone and it will cost me $60 when it's all done, and it's been notated on my account that if this issue occurs again with the new phone, the contract extension is null and void. Situation #2 Famous Barr (sister store to Lord & Taylor, Foleys, the May Dept Stores). My girlfriend wanted a good coffee/espresso maker last year for Christmas. In traditional guy fashion, I head out a couple days before the big day to start my shopping. Find a setup that fits the bill for her, get it gift wrapped (I was never good with wrapping paper) and on my way after dropping $200. Well, three months of coffee bliss (I reaped some of the benefits too), and the machine begins to leak. It's been a while so revert to the warranty card. Get an RMA and send it off to the manufacturer for repair. Four months with excess counter space and a few phone calls inquiring when the machine will be sent back, the next higher model arrives via FedEx. Coffee bliss has returned, or so it seemed. not more than 60 days after the new replacement arrived, it too begins to leak. Another call to the warranty people explaining that we don't want to be without this for another 4 months again and we get a 'tough, deal with it'. Taking a chance, call the store where I bought the original machine. Spoke to the manager of housewares and explained the dilemna. She said she'd look into it and give a call back within 48 hours. Well, after the Nextel issue settled down, I get a phone call. The mgr states that as long as we have the receipt, they'll take the model we currently have back, no questions asked, even though they don't even carry this brand anymore. Situation 1, I'm stuck since they're the only provider in town that has the services I need for my Blackberry. Situation 2. I know where I'm shopping now. Thanx! anyone have any recommendations for espresso machines? ----- ~~~Michael

    Unusual Experiences

I've reposessed a 'few' cars - Been at the wrong end of a snub nose revolver during one, got chased a few times. Got clocked at 147 mph - while driving an unmarked police cruiser (talked my way out of the ticket too ) I've handled a cobra & a caiman Swam with trained dolphins and dolphins in the wild. Driven an ARCA stock car on a 1 mile dirt track really fast for a few laps. Same car on a 1/4 mile paved oval really fast too... Pondered Plato at the Acropolis Experienced the Red Light District of Amsterdam. Skiied in the Alps - Much steeper than the Rocky Mtns Been locked in the Zurich Switzerland airport for the night. Survived backpacking around Europe - twice. Driven across country with Mary Many others, but I'd be here all night... ----- ~~~Michael

  9. Ahhh young grasshopper: 1. Code is I.P. - It belongs to David since he wrote it. (The images are copyright their original owners) 2. The guy is 'pretending' to be David since he's using his ad (e.g. misleading customers) 3. The guy should not have borrowed an ad from an established store. I've borrowed ads before, but it was for a single item, single sale. The descriptions worked for what I was doing. 4. Well, it's just fun sometimes to really screw with people. ----- ~~~Michael

  14. Like you, I don't need a Cypres. None of us do. I also jumped while mine was away for for the 4 year. I chose to have one, I chose to jump without it during the 4 year. It's a simple choice. If you want one bad enough, you will make financial arrangements to have one.
  15. I'm going to lightly tread on this on statement as I believe that it is worded incorrectly - Someone doesn't need a Cypres, they choose to have one or not to have one. The ability to afford one or not is also a matter of choice. Modifying one's spending habits, as Drew said, is one way to do it. You mentioned feeding the kids - so, if subject A is currently doing 5 jumps a weekend, and the kids are being fed, it is assumed that by only doing 4 jumps a weekend, the cost of one jump ticket can go into a savings account (or even on account at the DZ) towards the purchase of a Cypres. When I first accumulated all my gear, I did not have a Cypres. The DZO gave me a Cypres (new) and allowed me to pay it off as I went. The only stipulation was that my rig had to be left in the rigging loft until the Cypres was paid for. There are creative ways to acquire a Cypres and if a jumper approached their DZO, the DZO might offer a creative solution. I've also run into several DZOs who sell their Cypres supply at cost. Just like Mercedes did with their patent on crumple zones on cars, sometimes it's better to think about the safetly factor than the money factor. ----- ~~~Michael

had two of those over the years I worked at a former employer in Denver. Luckily, both were on Fridays and management did the right thing and cleared the building. So, we just went to happy hour early. ----- ~~~Michael
