Its with sad news....Blue Skies Reid Ashe

I regret not being able to make the event. Did anyone attend? Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Stu - agreed. I saw TJ break 2 lines after 60 jumps, and I saw Joe Bennett break 2 (or 3) lines after about 80 jumps (jumping the blue lines). It absolutely blows my mind that swoopers will spend TOP dollar for a canopy (JVX and Velo ARE NOT cheap), but will try and nickle and dime the linesets. Jay's analogy was best - only fools race with old tires. Along those lines, IMO, people getting 300 who DON'T compete are no different than the kid who puts a racing spoiler on his honda civic hatchback - it's totally unnecessary and simply 'for show'. If you can't afford all the maintenance that goes with the high performance line type - simply get a larger line type who's maintenance criteria fall into your budget. On a side note, I was given some interesting statistics a while back - I can't speak to their scientific accuracy, but it's what was reported. Apparently the total reduction in drag from a 500 to a 300 lineset is equivalant to approximately half of the average human body. So, it's a decent amount AT HIGH SPEED, but in regular flight the difference will be negligible. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Oh Where Oh Where did Scott Miller Go??

My stuff is 5 jumps per day too (actually I can't claim credit for the essentials stuff as it's pretty much Scott's course). Of course, sometimes weather stops this from being so, but generally I find it hard to believe that students will absorb the info without an opportunity to practically apply it as they learn it. When do/will you change your 350/300lb HMA lineset?
ianmdrennan replied to rhys's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Jay, thanks for your input. Out of everyone here, I believe you have the most hand's on experience with these lines. Out of all of us here, the PDFT, probably has the most experience under 300 hma linesets. I think your real-life experience speaks well, and I would caution jumpers to heed your advice. As for your thoughts on ultra-thin lines - I agree - if you're not competing there's no need for them and the added risk, and gear maintenence, is simply not worth it. FWIW, I replace mine every 100-120 jumps. Peace. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Admit it Stu, it made you hot. Performance Designs Factory Team

The following people, I know for sure, offer structured Essentials classes: Jeffro Jonathan Tagle Stuart Schoenfeld Scott Roberts Kaz Sheekey Brian McNenney Isaiah McCauliffe Jay Moledski Ian Bobo Shannon Pilcher Mike Olivella Ian Drennan Luigi Cani Brian Germain I'm sure there are others, but that's a pretty comprehensive list. Some are harder, or more expensive, to get than others but all will give you a good solid course. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Can't say I blame you, I have moments like that myself. I figure though, that resigning myself to that world (that I don't agree with), is analogous to me quitting. Side note: I just took the political test to see where I lay these days. Seems like I'm stuck near the Dali-Lama HAHAHA Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I just heard an interesting statistic on the radio: 9 out of 10 Obama campaign adds as 'positive' and focus on platform issues. 1 out of 3 McCain ads are 'Obama bashers'. Personally I find this interesting, and sad, considering BOTH candidates made a pledge to keep this as clean a race as possible. Is McCain just scared? Ian ps: Can anyone coroberate the stats presented on the radio? Performance Designs Factory Team

You do have to admit it's been the minority of US citizens. Most of us, plebs, haven't been positively effected by the war. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Psychotic ramblings can be very hard to decipher. Individuals prone to this typically end up with indecipherable scratchings in some sort of memoir, especially when you consider the schizophrenic nature of the individuals typically associated with them. Bill, you simply an internet version of the guy standing on a street corner in NY city screaming obscenities and that the "end is nigh" It appears to be contagious to some Canadian's too Performance Designs Factory Team -
I was pretty sure I read reports about him expecting his trip to cost him some placing in the polls, for the short term. I'm not thinking there are too many surprises there. I think we'll see both candidates continue to gain, and lose, in the polls. Ultimately I suspect this will be a very close race. Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Since I've been exposed to people with DS, there is absolutely NO WAY I'd be in favor of aborting the fetus. One of the most loving and caring people I've ever met has DS - how could you possibly think that's worth aborting? (not directed at you kb). If you are capable of providing a good, loving home for the child, and you decide to abort - IMO it's for purely selfish (and probably vain) reasons, no matter how people may try and mask it as otherwise.
