This past Friday, Saturday and Sunday a great group of local kids from NJ, sponsored by my office competed in a local tournament. Usually these large teams have vast resources and full teachers and administrative support over a period of 6 weeks to build these amazing complex machines. This small team of 7 scrappy talented young kids had none of that. For the first part of the build season, the team sat in purgatory not sure if they were going to get off the ground or not. The money they needed to order parts was frozen due to procedural issues and teachers were unsure if they could afford the time commitment needed for the program and thus stood back. Eventually things "broke" and the office got a phone call that we feared the most. We had sponsored this team under the auspices that the school would provide space for the build and the appropriate supervision. Now we were being told that unless something happened these great kids would not be able to compete. It was decided that the office would step up and assign me as the; lead sponsor, lead builder and coach. Something that never happens and was unplanned. Over two weeks the students working in the living room, dining room and kitchen of one of the parents formulated the design, built and tested their robot from nothing more than a box of parts and any spare pieces of metal we could buy or scrounge from around the school and donations from other teams that my office suported. Ten nights of all of us being up till 11pm or later and the robot was ready to roll. Our first entrance into the filed in PA was a crash landing into the community. However our second competition was much smoother. The students were aware of their roles and all the kinks that most teams had ironed out over their 6 week build time were fixed and sorted out. The students and the robot performed flawlessly at their second event and had the opportunity to meet and speak with the executive staff of my organization and thank them for all of their support. Though they didn't place as high in the rankings as they would have wanted to they were very proud of all the hard work they had done and are already planning on recurring more students and having a bigger team for next year! (not sure if i can post photos of the kids so i won't but those who are friends with me on face book you know who i'm talking about!)

Nope the girl is pissed at the guy for something and she is not into having sex right now...which may be all of this year. So the discussion is what is a "working" wage? The idea is that unemployment should be such that you are uncomfortable but not destitute and stealing from others so that you may live. However minimum wage is designed to be a step above unemployment benefits? Thus perhaps it can be argued that the system is now upside down? That one is better off financially being unemployed than gainfully employed at minimum wage? Sadly I may have to agree, especially when you take into account the various health and nutritional benefits. Affordable Eats! This is a thread dedicated to affordable eats. While working in Finland I picked up a lot of things. A now X wife and a few recipes of cheap good eats. My favorite is a kosher dish called Ham Temptation. You will need 1 kitchen 1 stove with oven set to 350F 1 large casserole dish 1 large onion 1 cup milk 2 cups of your favorite graded cheese 2 cans of Spam 4-5 potatoes 6 beers Start by boiling the potatoes (10-15min) While this is happening cut up the onions thin, and grade the spam into thin strips. Place onions and spam along with 1 cup of milk and cheese with ground pepper into a large bowl and mix. Drink 1 beer. Cool potatoes and grate them with the skin on into the mix and again mix thoroughly. Drink 1 beer. Butter the casserole dish, place mixed content in the dish and place the entire thing in a preheated oven for about 30 min. Drink 2 beers Take out of oven serve and enjoy with 2 beers. This will keep in the fridge for a good number of days. If you switch to light Spam and light cheese it's very healthy for you. I have made this and have included other veggies as well and it turned out ok. However nothing amazing since it starts looking odd after a while when you start putting broccoli and other veggies in there. Hope you have time to make it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Find a handsome man who knows how to cook...you know kind of like me. I'm amazed that for the price of one McDonland value meal I can have a lunch and a dinner. And I'm not talking pasta, I'm talking chicken breast and veggies. A simple dish of white bazmati rice, grilled chicken breast or beef with veggies on average is about $4 in cost if not less. I have one, I got it when my beloved grandmother passed away in memory of her. it was the most zen expereince ever. i'm not sure i will get another but for me it's more than just to look cool it's a reminder of where i come from and how amazing a woman she was.
