also , say your going to be hooking through turbulence where a conventional canopy might breat a little in your dive or in your swoop , an airlock will drop you a couple feet in some cases
-
Airlocked canopied do have less of a chance of collapse in turbulent/bumpy winds , but no canopy is invincible . I've flown a few airlocked canopies , and diddn't like them they dont breath at all , so you feel every little bump in the air . It feels kinda like riding in a car w/ no shocks on a bumpy road.
-
> the volume is the same the problem is the air Not alway's true , it depends on what kind of canopy . some have airlocks , crossbraces , partially formed noses , all of which add to pack volume

CANOPY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NOVICE SWOOPER
freeflyswc replied to trigger's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
probrabbly the best advice I can give you is try before you buy . demo's are cheap (if not free) to try , and you can gradually downsize in the process -
That's why I said it would be cool to see (meaning someone other than me ) Any volunteers???

calling a student a baby is bull$hit . At our dz we prefer to say that they grew feathers
-
I think all the skydivers will evolve into birds and be in constant freefall:-)
-
I think it would be pretty funny if someone grabbed one of their rigs and started to the plane , with the excuse that the rig is just as much theirs as the knights because they pay taxes!!

I hope nothing happens that pauses general aviation , because i'm supposed to be going back to nationals this weekend!!!!!

CANOPY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NOVICE SWOOPER
freeflyswc replied to trigger's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Check out the crossfire , it's a great canopy and its fast (but not scary fast) . It has one of the longest recovery arc's of any canopy out there (non cross-braced) and it pulls out of the dive very easy just by tapping the brakes . I am a firm beleiver that a longer recovery arc is safer when learning to swoop , Reason , you can do your maneuvers higher giving you more time for pitch adjustment . on other canopies with a shorter recovery arc , you have to make your turn closer to the ground and you have less time to react before the ground rushes up and bites you!!! -
I don't know about loktite , that would make it a pain in the @$$ to get loose . you should keep an eye on your gear . If your setting your brakes , how much of an extra step is it to see if your links are loose?
-
A guy at our dz had that happen under a crossfire 139 loaded at about 2:1 but his was almost straightened out the left front line group was hanging on by the threads on the rapide link and the nut was stuck in the riser . He diddn't even notice untill he landed and was gathering up his canopy and his line group was dangling!!! good thing he did a toggle turn onto final instead of his usual left front riser approach!!

Cool man , i've been thinking about making a pc jump , but never get around to it. At my home dz in Richmond during the boogie , some people did a 14 way round dive . after breakoff they tracked and pulled and two of them had mal's . So that kinda discouraged me a bit!
