i have been trying to get out to the burning man for YEARS! it is by far the craziest festival i have ever heard of........a week in the desert of anything goes and it is ANYTHING goes! it all revolves around the burning of a gaint man like figure on the last night. all kinds of crazy costumes, gaint figures of every kind and loads of naked people everywhere. thousands of people desend on the "playa" for the week. though i have not been to WFFC or Burning Man, i have known people from both and Burning Man wins by far. look it up! as for skydiving out there, it is way in the middle of no where and every year dust stroms are pretty bad. and too, believe it or not, skydiving into the festival would probably not impress that group of people! it is crazy! i only meet chris once but that is all it took. me and a friend did a jump out of a 182 a few months ago and when we landed, about 5 more canopies landed with us. chris was one of them. he must have seen the very surprised look on my face-he walked over introduced himself with a big friendly smile. they jumped from the otter brought in from SM for the bigways at spaceland that weekend. he must have been a great guy. it is more dangerous to drive a car down a free-way than to skydive but no one ever says, "don't drive your children will not have a parent." their are all kinds of ways to make it even more safe than it already is. what i would be more concerned with is who is going to be teaching and watching your children while you are jumping. are you going to let your kids run free on the DZ and set the grass on fire(spaceland last summer!), or pick up the other habits that may form. this is a safe sport for those who make it safe........freak things can always happen in whatever you do. and too, everyday, treat your children as if THEY will not have a mother tomorrow because when the hooded man knocks, it is not like you cannot open the door or pretend not to hear him....................i kinda been thinkin' about this all day because on the way to work a chevy truck on the other side of the f/w got hit from behind, went airborn, half way jumped the wall, almost hit me head on and then flipped back over and rolled a few more times before coming to rest. i almost got killed and i was not even fuckin skydiving! here is my carbone story: for me and my g/f's birthday party last year at spaceland i devised a game i called "pin scotty carbones ass" from a pic i took of him showing off his ass one afternoon from his van door! i blew it up to a 20x30 and held it while my g/f blindfolded him and guided him to the poster with a tack! the image he saw on the board was a donkey we had drawn, but after he was blinded and about 10 feet from the board, i turned it around to show the poster of his naked ass hanging out! no one ever gets scotty carbone, but i got him and he took it well! everyone there cracked up and the first thing he said when he saw his ass as a poster was, "my mom will love this"!!!!!!!!!! ask him to see it, i am sure he will show it to you! he did not suspect anything and my g/f was able to hoax him well! after that, carbone led the skydiver "birthday song" for us! the "pin scotty carbones ass" game and a certain camera flyer getting a head-job from the manifest chick in the middle(and i mean in the middle) of the party was the highlights! scott and tammi, that was great fun and thanks for the great time! GET THE NIKON! i am a skydiver and photographer, but, i can only jump when i am at the DZ but i can shot pics all day and night and everywhere i go! i have been saving up for the F100 since before skydiving and i have not got it yet! i could buy 25 nikons with what i have spent on skydiving! as for the canopy, buy a used one because you will out grow it sooner or later and you will save a little cash for the fastest lens of your choice! as for your choice of camera it is very good! get a fast lens to go with it and you will not have any problems catching even derek v.(skydive houston) swooping at 100mph+ and everyone will love your pics too!
