cross-braced canopy construction

Ah, but most A/C don't have stabilizers. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

I'm sure you can put a parachute into an uncoordinated turn, the P/C may or may not be an indicator of that. I do not think the stabilizers or lack there of would have anything to do with a "sliding" of the canopy. That would be evident on videos of landings. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

The Mystery Of Hanwags, or How To Fly Phantom at 2.9
diablopilot replied to yuri_base's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Who said anything about a king air. They don't have one where I jump. I just asked how you're legaly jumping a single parachute system from an aircraft regulated by the FAA. Of course you might be rich and have a surpluss of aircraft around you don't mind crashing everytime you want to "jump". -
100 to 105 is a pretty good clip for most people in the tunnel (wuffos are usually between 90 and 100). I can sitfly at that speed. Remember you're not wearing a rig and it makes a difference. And I have seen plenty of people with a bad body position "ask" the controller for more air and not get it. If you look sketchy and unstable (as people fighting to stay off the net often do) then you'll probably not get more air, especially if they have never seen you fly before. From what you've described, the mistakes you made were, 1) flying in a body position to stay off the net and 2) asking the controller for more wind. If it feels too slow to fly, then let yourself down to the net in a good arch. Cupping or flying the whole dead spider thing just doesn't work as the instructor is now watching carefully for signs of a rollover that he/she will be forced to spot. Now if it were you, would you rather catch 200+ lbs of human falling from 4 feet or 10 feet? Secondly, don't ask the controller for changes, ask the instructor. He/she is the one that is responsible for what happens in the tunnel and while they work as a team, the instructor has final say over what happens. So next time, go to the net, arch, smile and before you even ask for it, I'll bet you have more wind. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Most people don't care who he is, you are in good company!

Listen, I mean really listen to your tunnel instructor. I can't stress the need NOT to jump or thrust off the floor. Remember the wind is moving at 90 degrees to how you're standing. It's pretty easy to lean your body into the wind while arching and fly it all the way in. DON'T bedn at the waist, just go slow. remember that to get in your legs may straighten out fully but once you're in that's gonna produce a drive towards the wall. Get thos legs up, have your arms ready to push out at the far wall to stop yourself, and don't focus on the point you think you're gonna hit. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. VX vs Velo: 270 turn starting altitudes
diablopilot replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
well you have to understand. someone says they load a VX at 2,5 and says they are doing 270's at 500ft. I don't see how they are not low. on the otherhand, why would't' i believe you? thats why i want to see a video, to better understand what is going on. there could be many factors "why you are not low". but 500ft, on a vx loaded at 2.5 with its standard trim, even with a fast 270, IS low. He's not low. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Having never done an AFF from a 206, but having done video from one I can suggest the full climb out and float. I think I like this sort of exit for almost all A/C actually. I have heard of a seated exit being done.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I really miss that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I think it's a compressed accordian. The key to any exit is the timing. If people are getting drug out of the A/C then it's gonna flop. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

J, can you believe the man can quote some of the most useless facts to you, but can't tell you his girlfriend's t-shirt size? Maybe he's just gonna use it asn an excuse to give her a feel....... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'd agree with the statement a larger slider can cause faster/harder openings. If the dimensions of the slider allow for too much bottom skin to be exposed initially then the slider can be forced down prematurely by the expansion of the canopy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
