Just two weeks ago some of us were discussing the dual fatalities in Z-Hills/the Icelanders. As I said then, that if the sensor, software, or whatever in the AAD system 'glitches' and then fires at a true altitude of ( let's say ) 400 ft because of this 'glitch', then I would expect that the data that gets downloaded would say that the unit fired at 750 ft +- some tolerance because of this glitch still being in the system; not at the true altitude of 400 ft. IMO it is very possible ( but mostly not probable ) that this 'could' have happened at Z-Hills. I say 'mostly not probable' because two AAD units doing the exact same thing at the same time is very, very improbable; but not impossible. Just a thought or two; looks like we think alike on at least one issue. Just before I retired, I remember some of newer engineers ( who had never seen a slide rule ) had absolute faith in the results that the computer programs they were using were giving them. That was until one of the 'older' fellas stopped and showed them their mistakes. JerryBaumchen That entire diatribe is mute when you remember the ultimate cause of the fatality. "The failure of the jumper(s) in question to deploy a parachute in a timely fashion." ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

As I recall not one of them was disappointed in the experience, they left satisfied. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I didn't. Packers came up with their own "easier" technique. Afterwards I made sure they understood and utilized the "factory" method. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I've had 3 in 8500 and 2 I can attribute to packing technique. Pulled drogue release within 8 seconds on all three.... 2 of them were 18,000 tandems.... long cold ride indeed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Trayvon Martin case and double standards
diablopilot replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Seriously? You're gonna throw the race card on that one? "Warning shots", are plain and simple attempted murder. Besides, she was the aggressor. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
how many of us have flown and dived?
diablopilot replied to joelgibson's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It is an air addiction..... 1000 hours, 13,000 jumps, not much time kiting and paragliding but always looking up.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Seriously, who is letting these people do demos?! Edit: Seriously! Wide open area to miss, no crowd control, WTF!?! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Before you look down your nose at a DZ's method, you might want to get some experience as an instructor. I have taught virtually every freefall progression out there, and been a wind tunnel instructor, and there in no doubt that a tandem progression is safer for the DZ, instructor, and student, than a traditional AFF. Many DZ's that use one discount heavily the second/third tandems. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Good question ~ I'll let you know when I have one. Ditto to that.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Tourist is the insulting term some of us use to describe those that take from and draw down in a negative way the sport that we love. They are the pants on fire, won't listen to experience, arrogant types, that rarely last 2 to 3 years. Non-Tourists are the ones that stick around, pay back, listen, contribute, respect..... it's not as much as a time in sport thing as an attitude.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Captain Chesley Sullenberger probably disagrees with you. And the only stupid person is see in this thread is you every time you type something that you know nothing about..... There is a problem in commercial aviation these days of pilots who do NOT pay attention to the basic physical sensations the univers provides. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. When were you taught that? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Mostly they are worn if required by regulations. The STC or 337 approval for Cessna jump doors often require the use of PEP. Twin Otters are certified from the factory for door off jump operations with no requirement for a PEP. Some operators require the use for safety reasons even though the regulations do not require it. Wingsuit collisions with aircraft have renewed many pilot's interest in bail out rigs. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

USA min requirements for tracking suits ( Tube 3 )
diablopilot replied to moiye's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The US government are a bunch of assholes, but compared to Australia it is MUCH less of a beige cardigan-wearing nannyocracy. I love Australia, I've lived here almost 1/3 of my life, but the abundance of cowardice in the form of overregulation of every conceivable thing drives me batshit fucking crazy. Overregulation is typical in most governments. Like you I love my country, I just have no stomach for my government. It should be remembered that regulations like most laws in your country as well as mine come from dysfunctional people like Politicians. This garbage who can't get a real job must show some kind of performance to justify their useless positions. That about sums it up. At least in the US you don't get a ticket for riding a bicycle without a helmet, and you can find DZs that don't require AADs You haven't been to Kalifornia yet. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Can an S&TA self-certify for a licence?
diablopilot replied to DocPop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From the lack of an asterisk by the D requirement in the governance manual that JP posted, I take it the D-licence requirement is non-waiverable, hence there is no loophole. Seth Thanks for catching that.... I had assumed it was waiverable, though it appears not to be. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

It's not recommended, its required, though waiverable..... GovMan 1-4.4 ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I don't begrudge anyone their ignorance about the sport, how would they know what they don't know? What I do not tolerate is arrogant assumption, and bullshit attitudes. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

interesting use of the word "get", it infers something other than "earn" like mail order, buy, trade for beer, etc. Work next to some of them... you'll see it...... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

USPA Poll on tunnel time replacing some freefall time for AFFIs

Intresting Malfunction procedure's / Student Cam
diablopilot replied to crashtested's topic in Tandem Skydiving
There's been a more than a few posts on this, but here goes.... The use of Precision/Icarus tandem mains require specific training for the TI's in the event of line twists where the tandem pair ends up facing o the rear of line of flight. One saddled the students legs often come infront of the pair, much like they are seated in a chair. The aerodynamic forces resulting from a full flight deployment make swinging the pair out of line twist to be a very difficult job for the instructor. Here's the solution: 1. Ask the student to bring their legs back into the "arched" position. 2. The instructor kicks opposite the direction of the twists. Do not have the student help. 3. Once the first half twist is out, the kicking is unnecessary, if the TI simply sticks one leg out forward when they are rotating "downwind", and pulls that leg in when they are rotating "upwind" the twists will clear easily. Don't waste time pulling toggles, or twisting risers to get the "twists lower". 8500 tandems, and uncountable times using this system has cleared flat and stable line twists for me EVERY time. Diving and spinning line twists are a different story. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
