Demos gone viral, killing the business.
diablopilot replied to grimmie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What do we expect when we allow the USPA to grant these "nice guys" ratings and appointments? Note my standard disclaimer the USPA "Staff" is hard working and gives a shit, the BOD well it's a crap shoot. Every time something relating to holding or raising standards in instructional or pro ratings comes up the BOD manages to swat it down usually because there are enough of the BOD who "know some guy" that won't like it. S&TA's are no longer vetted in ANY meaningful way, RD's have been setting policy without reading the rules, enforcements are NOT happening. It will only get worse unless people start to give a crap. Seriously, most jumpers pay their $50 a year and don't want to know any different. Unless we wake the membership out of it's apathy..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
She did, and she stated as much. Try not to be so angry about people looking for explanations. Asking questions to become informed, and having a discussion is a far cry from being argumentative and confrontational. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. You just make that up? You have any ballistics data to back that up? Any statistical analysis of fatalities due to firearm or caliber types? Didn't think so. Oh come on, seriously? Do you think that guy who shot people in a cinema would have hit 71 people and killed 12 had he been armed with a glock instead of an AR-15? Really? Don't think so. Yes I do. And since you don't appear to know what the fuck you're talking about that suggests you've started this "discussion" simply to be argumentative. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. What possesses you to try and justify a need? Who needs a parachute? Who needs to skydive? Who needs a Ferrari? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

What a dog of a movie.... If I wanted to be preached at, I'd of watched a Michael Moore flick.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I've taught both ways, I prefer the "no breakaway, straight to reserve" method. It's important as experienced jumpers, no matter if we disagree with a DZ's method, we DO NOT interfere with the student operation, and possibly create confusion in the minds of the students. As an instructor, I teach the DZ's approved method, and if I don't agree with them then I don't teach there. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I was just told I am a right wing extremeist

You said the words, but I don't think you get the point. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
And there is not one shred of evidence to say that it will. You know what this job pays? Spoken like someone who hasn't hung it out there.... YOu can make said decision having every bit of evidence and faith that it's safe and when Murphy shows up, it goes sideways, there you are left holding the bag. Point is, before the BSR, USPA, and it's representatives (the S&TA's in this case) had no liability in someone pulling low. Now, it's rests wholly on the USPA and S&TA's who provide waivers. They have actually removed the liability from the jumper themselves..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Need an advice for the full face helmet
diablopilot replied to SFBayArea's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Define "local" to the Bay Area. I'd head up to Skydance, where they have Action Air Parachutes a gear store. I would not recommend any of the helmets you listed, but rather the Cookie G3. Great visibility and airflow, and hinges which are near bullet proof. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
You are suggesting that people exercise personal responsibility in the selection of their equipment. However the USPA hasjust decided that people can't exercise personal responsibility in the use of their equipment. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Should Aff Instructors also have a Canopy coach rating or higher.
diablopilot replied to rustywardlow's topic in Instructors
Proposed this idea to the S&TA committee 5 years ago. It went nowhere. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
It was the PIA requesting the change from the BOD. The PIA is a representative organization of the manufacturers. (I know you know this Craig, just pointing it out....) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Low cutaway, followed by a LOW reserve pull
diablopilot replied to -ftp-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's absolutely inexcusable for any jumper under a canopy like that to need that long to get stable. What even more inexcusable _for any jumper_ is trying to get stable for that long. I'll accept it as a possibility for absolute newbies. 1. Pull 2. Pull at altitude. 3. Pull stable. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Simple question Mike, what is wrong wish simply advising jumpers who jump with AAD's that opening higher is safer, and letting them be grown adults who make their own decisions and live (or die) with the consequences? If the USPA is about safety, where are the BSR's on wing loading? Or the mandatory use of an RSL? Though I would not support either BSR, those are ones that have been proven statistically to prevent death. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. This. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Exactly. I said it before, but it bears repeating, the more regulations the more liability especially when said regulation is not thought about in the context of the courtroom. All this BSR does is shift the liability from manufacturers to the USPA and S&TA's. Jumpers should be held liable for the actions they take including the gear they jump. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Students jumping at different DZ's (Semi long post)
diablopilot replied to cashflow's topic in Safety and Training
No, what is slightly ridiculous is you're assumption with your 13 jumps in the sport that you know enough about the difference in training program, gear between the DZ's, instructional staff, and general acceptance of liability for you. It is their DZ, and it is their rules, and you by posting here are throwing a tantrum about things not going your way. Not the kind of attitude that is conducive to safety, or longevity in this sport. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Look at how many could have possibly been prevented with the use of an RSL too..... Yay, the sport learns nothing every day. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Agreed! What if I jump in Colorado? or maybe Washington? b. any drug that affects that person’s faculties in any way contrary to safety. Why do we open cans of worms? what benefit is this to the MEMBERSHIP of USPA? The point you're leading to is the one that is being missed by most. The more regulation over a "self supervising" sport that negates personal responsibility the larger the legal exposure becomes. The BOD which has an apparent lack of legal experience or council continues to write verbiage and policy that WILL be read in court rooms at some point. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
