Have a mechanic check the coolant for exhaust gases. There is a chemical they use for this. I wouldn't rule out a head gasket or even a small crack in the block, just because they don't see "white smoke". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Andy Farrington did shots over Blue Hole in Belize a few years ago. The landings in the ocean were a sure thing. I believe he removed his helmet after opening and placed it in a "dry sack" with the roll and clip top, much like are used on whitewater rafting trips, and then used an oversized carabiner or something similar to hang it off his harness. He also landed close enough to the recovery boat that he ended up tossing it on board thus keeping it dry. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I'm pretty sure you only need a money, rig, and a heartbeat. They won't check your pulse though, and the rig might be optional. Don't forget the money. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Holy shit, your style consultants must have been Trent Reznor, Marilyn Manson, and Rob Zombie... Have fun!

A hackey is a premature waiting to happen. They are floppy high drag items, and additionally they are a weight on the top of your P/C, not exactly brilliant engineering. If you want a premature resistant, effective P/V go with the pipe handle, or a freefly pud that is well secured. A properly designed freefly pud should have no additional complications during deployment than any other system. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. IMHO, if someone has a bit of patience, and is somewhat heads up about their gear, the non cascaded line sets are not very difficult to install. The proof of that is even my dimwitted ass has changed 3 line sets on my personal canopies. The ease stems from the fact that they are all pre-sewn and being able to read the instructions, match the labels to the proper attachment points, and use a measuring tape to check your work, are the only pre-requisite skills needed. Of course I find cascaded line sets not too hard as well, but that requires a Bartack machine. Note: I am not arguing for the legality of who can or can't change a line set, just the skills needed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. If you do not know how to pack a pullout, ASK!!!!!
diablopilot replied to Para5-0's topic in Safety and Training
I've never seen a pullout system where the P/C could be checked after the container is closed. All the bridal is packed inside the container. It's one reason why I cock my P/C, as well as set my own brakes, and un-collapse my slider when using packers. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Bingo. It makes no difference if they are Skydivers or not. If you're going to be a responder, treat everyone as a risk. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Any thoughts as to why? I have gone between 900 and 1000 jumps on 2 Xaos linesets, without trouble, and less than a 1/2" trim deviation. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Actually I've become somewhat of a walking "barometer of conditions" at this DZ. Much of the time when I choose to sit down, so do most of the experienced jumpers. (Several have been students of mine, so that may account for something.) But funnier than that, my full time co-workers often seem to wait for my call too, and they have as much or more experience than me. After landing in challenging conditions, I've now come to expect them to seek me out on our short van ride back to the hanger and ask "So, what do you think?"

I'm sure you know this, but I'll point it out for others. Just because someone else on the load is going, does not mean you need to if your "safety button" has been pushed. That includes the TI you might be filming. A few weeks ago, I was on the A/C to film a tandem, and the winds were out of the South (a rare direction for us, and turbulent due to terain and buildings). I had been on a tandem on the last load and the landing was safe, but the approach shook me up, to the point I was going to stand down. Walked into the hanger and saw I was on a video, so continued. We taxied to the end of the runway, when I made my decision, asked the pilot to pause, and got off the airplane. Started the long walk back to the hanger and heard my name called. Two of our "A" licensed skydivers saw me get off and followed me out the door. The load went on, everyone made it back safely, but everyone also stood down after that load. Point is, it's always the individuals decision.

"regular" jumps during a boogie
diablopilot replied to SivaGanesha's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Having worked at SkyDance during the boogie in years past, I'm pretty sure they can accommodate your student jumps without too much trouble. As for helping out during the boogie, that is a GREAT idea. They can use help in all sorts of ways during the boogie. Fueling airplanes, driving the bad spot vans, helping in manifest, setting up for dinner and beer...... It's a perfect way to introduce yourself to the DZ and local community, you'll make friends, hear plenty of tall tales, and probably learn a thing or two. Have fun! (I'll be around Thursday and Friday.) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Low Pull Artists vs. Swoopers
diablopilot replied to zoobrothertom's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Nothing, out of a properly designed BASE rig. OTOH we've seen fatalities in the last couple years from bag packed skydiving mains in skydiving containers where line(s) hitched themselves around a snag happy flap. I *think* thats what Sparky might be getting at. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
USPA reaction to Duanesburg incident?

They may not be the same but they have some of the same limitations. Not for use with cameras, CRW, or other entanglement happy skydiving. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Er, nope. Funny, when Bill explained it to me, the theory is the lack of mesh is supposed to help "right" the P/C sooner, but it doesn't "inflate" while on it's side. That would be physically impossible. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
