Hell froze over. Goodness...

"Fair" is where you can get Cotton Candy, Caramel Apples, and can see the Blue Ribbon livestock. Welcome to skydiving. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Find a local ultralight pilot, buy him/her a case of beer, a tank of gas, and if he's got a 2 seater, ask if you can go along. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Yep. 54 rides on the front, and they were all spooky.

AFF vs. Tandem Progression/AFF
diablopilot replied to Schwarztod's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sounds like you'd do really well with the Tandem Progression. The Tandem portion can be considered similar to "Dual" instruction, like you'd get when learning to fly an airplane, and I find my Tandem Progression students are much better canopy pilots sooner than their AFF counterparts. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Shoot, I'll start my McDonalds diet right away if that's what it takes! You swooping is what's HOT!

Why is this substandard way of speaking becoming more prevalent?
diablopilot replied to birdlike's topic in Speakers Corner
On a daily basis, I hear the question, "Where do we land at?" I sigh and reply, "who's At?" ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
The carburetor heat can be used in a graduated manner, proper use varies from aircraft to aircraft, and consulting the POH is the proper thing to do. When encountering Carb ice in a 182 pulling the carb heat full on is usually the first fix, but once cleared, if carb icing conditions continue, then use of just enough heat to prevent the forming of ice is recommended. Carb heat does reduce engine performance, as warm air is less dense and both the air fuel mixture to the engine and the volume supplied to the engine are reduced. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. USPA Canopy Piloting Nationals 2008 - Colorado

Not me! I go SCUBA diving. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Tell them it's been a year, and ask for a refresher. Depending on the person that may entail a couple hours of EP review, patten planing, and dive flow, or it may turn into a full blown FJC. I'd advise reviewing the SIM (avaliable for free on the USPA website) to brush up on things, and show up prepared. If you do it's very likely your refresher will go smoothly. I don;t know what your DZ will charge, but anywhere from $30 for a basic refresher, to $100 for a full blown FJC seems to be the norm. Remeber they will probably consider you a student for the jump, so expect to pay for a student jump (AFF) and you may or may not be permitted to use your own gear for the jump as well, even if it meets student requirements. Its their DZ and their liability. Have fun!

That gives the rest of us pro-gun people a hell of a black eye. Ditto that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

No problem. I wish I had a photo of the ones I got when I was starting out. The first day I jumped an Otter.....it was a beaut! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Is that "A" license package a "post AFF" thing, or an all inclusive thing. The way to get over the irrational fear is become educated about it. Worried about the previous fatality? Find out all you can about it, and how you can avoid the same mistakes. Undecided about where to learn? Go and meet with the staff, see who makes you feel more comfortable, and who is more suited to your learning style. Ear plugs help with sound only, not pressure. I could answer that, or I could point you towards this document and suggest you start hitting the books!

What is involved in getting a uspa coach rating?
diablopilot replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Instructors
Yes. It's not difficult. Yes, the ability to fly relative, and to show that you can observe and remember what occurred on the jump. You'll also have to show the ability to train/teach. But the biggest thing you'll need to do in the coach course is learn. It should be rather intensive in it's training of you in teaching techniques. And if you go for it, remember it's like any other rating in skydiving, a license to learn, to keep developing yourself through mentorship, and staying current on the lessons and improvements in the industry. Good luck. -

What Can We Do About Skyride II
diablopilot replied to slotperfect's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Bravo. I mean it. It's the single best idea out there in this situation. It's what I suggested a few years ago. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
It's a door bite. Stop "swinging" out on the camera step, and climb out in the door way first, THEN step back to the step. The bruise is caused from letting the wind slam your body into the side of the A/C. Oh, and reconsider jumping with tandems. Work on other video, and develop your technique. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
Can you? Probably. That's up to the DZ you want to visit, and how they run their student program. My advice is to try to do as much a you can initially with the same group of instructors, they'll probably have a better idea of your progress and be better prepared to help you along the way. There's nothing really wrong with checking out new places though, it's just far easier to do with an "A', and 25 jumps goes quick!

I "trust" no one. I get involved, do much of my own work, and know that ANYONE can make mistakes. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Who Needs a Wingsuit - Here's How to Roll . . .
diablopilot replied to NickDG's topic in The Bonfire
I wanna do that. Seriously, that's the type of flying I've dreamed of since I was a kid, and I want to find a job that lets me do that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
