  1. Spring/Early summer will find much of the park closed. The Going to the Sun road is usually snow blocked until mid June. My wife and I stayed at the cabins in Apgar for our honeymoon. It was very nice. I agree with the others that later in the year would be nicer, but more crowded. Have a great time! We will be there next July. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  2. I made this mistake once. Small Cesna DZ and I stuck four chemlights into the bottom (rear) of the cells and packed it up. I figured it would glow very nicely and not be a problem at all. Of course we wore chem lights on our jumpsuits for freefall as well. When I opened, my glow sticks rolled out the nose (I did not tape them in place) and continued the freefall. The DZO on the ground watched 4 glow sticks fall to the earth thinking that a whole team had gone in. He was rather pissed when he found out it was just me not securing the glow sticks. 3. I am in Jamaica right now. The entire country came to a stop to watch. My co-workers here are in a state of frenzy over the win. What I don't get is ....................running. John Arizona Hiking Trails

    Maubeuge 2008

8-Way is rather disappointing for the US. The Fast Trax/Golden Knight team has gotten spanked hard in 2 out of the 6 rounds, They lost both rounds by 5 points. Thats is a lot at the world meet level. They trail the French by 11 with one round to go. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  5. Spending two grand does not really show an interest. There are a lot of folks with more money than brains. Studying skydiving has many options. One is the Skydiver Information Manual from USPA. You should be looking into to the rules that apply to you as a student skydiver and the things you need to understand an prepare for in your pursuit of a license. There are many books out there about skydiving. Parachuting - The Skydiver's Handbook by Dan Poynter and Mike Turoff is one that helped me early in my career. You can also pick up good information here on Dropzone.com but be very cautious on who you take advice from. Bounce anything you learn on your own off your instructors to make sure you understand the information and are applying it correctly. Ask lots of questions. Hang out even when you are not jumping. Show that you are an eager student. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  6. Yup. 2 and a half years ago. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/09/22/db2202.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/09/22/ixportal.html John Arizona Hiking Trails
  7. Check that your canopy is in trim. Canopies with Spectra line will go out of trim over time. It is caused by the outboard lines shrinking due to friction with the slider. Ask a rigger to check it or do this simple check yourself: Tie the tops of your risers together and walk your lines up as if you are to pro-pack. Check how the attachment tabs line up for your "A" lines (the ones attached to the nose). If they are straight across (left to right) like this: ||||||||| then your canopy in in trim. If they are longer in the center, in a "V shape then your canopy is in need of a reline. See your rigger to get a reline. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  8. Betsy from Skydive Arizona emailed me today and said the boogie is definitely on. What is still unknown is jump prices. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  9. Lots of us are wondering the same thing. The last I heard is that they still don't have agreement with the Mexican Authorities to let us jump. Perhaps Betsy can provide an update. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  10. Nope, it is skyvan city. It looks like he is putting another one together in one of the hangers. I see it as we take the tram past, but I have not been it to see if it is being assembled. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  11. Skydive Arizona -- Eloy Lift is $23 to 13,000 Fleet is (IIRC) 3 Super Otters 5 Skyvans 1 Porter 1 King Air 1 DC-3 1 Twin-Beach John Arizona Hiking Trails
  12. I did. I used it to epmphaize leadership. I described load organizing and how the skill set needed to get a ever changing number of folks with various experience to go into an unnatural environment and accomplish a goal with limited time. I got the job. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  13. This is a nice place to start. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Learn_to_Skydive/index.shtml John Arizona Hiking Trails
  14. I do the same, but if you add some mayonnaise, tuna, and other food garbage to the inside of the envelope, they smell better. I usually include some note that says "you sent me your trash, I am sending mine." The post office should be charging these ass-wipes premium for mailing rather than giving them a discount. 15. Because they make my skydiving look bad. Without video I am AWESOME! Just ask me. Airspeed is just better than me because I am camera shy. Back on topic, you can build any point in any configuration. The challenge usually comes with the skill sets for the slot. If the entire team is perfectly equal in all aspects its easy to do. Making the point the back end of the cat in a crank can make sense depending on the prior and next points but if they are gonna be struggling with the key, that may not buy you any advantage. 16. This is not a good thing. The cigarette smoke covered up the fact that those people do not bathe regularly. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  17. I bought the iPhone straight away. I have no buyers remorse. The keyboard takes about 2 weeks to get used to, but it is very functional. I find it as easy to use than my Blackberry. The phone quality is very good. I use mine for long conference calls (2 hours plus) and never have a drop or poor reception. Internet is good as well, but I sometimes get slow responses depending on location. I don't have that problem if I am close enough to a hot spot to browse using wi-fi. I really like the upgrade capability. Since most of the functionality is software, they can push improvements to you for free. Recently, they added multiple home screens, the ability to add internet shortcut buttons to the home screen, the ability to skip through movies by chapter, and a primitive GPS system to the maps. I wish it would allow for corporate email, but I am hopeful that will come in the near future. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  18. I am in Mo'Bay right now. I work here several times a year. The countryside is beautiful and the folks are fine. Don't stick to the resorts, you never get to see the island that way. Go out and meet the locals! For great Jerk, go to Scotchie's along the Rose Hall Main road. Its a little outdoor place with really good Jerk and a full bar. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  19. My tradition is to give up my New Year resolutions for Lent. That way they dont last too long. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  20. I've known vidiots who were not as smart as the monkey. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  21. I love watching how nervous people get when they climb up on the basket to leave the balloon. Its like they are scared they might fall. I was in the basket once and watched a experienced jumper (600+ jumps), shaking in his boots as he stood on the edge of the basket. I looked at him and said "Step off, then you will be in freefall and you will be happy." A big grin came over his face and he stepped off. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  22. At $50 a year for membership, you've contributed $750.00. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  23. :8:0 Had a great time at the Perris Boogie. One wicked cool exit out of the Jet and great jumps with DanBC and Kai Wolf. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  24. If you are truly an independent contractor, then no taxes are withheld by the company you are working for. You would pay all taxes (including both employer and employee parts of FICA) on your own. If you are an employee, you will be taxed for the employee FICA (7.65% up to 97K and 1.45% above that). You will also be taxed for Federal Income Tax based upon what you claim on your W-4 or the supplemental rate (25%) depending on the nature of the pay. John Arizona Hiking Trails
  25. There is a fun multi-cache on / near a major DZ. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=27712bd4-2f25-4aa3-8075-87ab56e0fe01 My daughter had a blast figuring it out. John Arizona Hiking Trails
