Thanks for you replies! Just to clarify, I didn't buy a new racer just to pack it. I bought it used ('05) and got a pretty good deal to where just having it for packing was worth the price. Im gonna jump it though, just gotta have my cypress cutter swapped out for a 2 pin & the reserve packed. So far the only argument Ive heard against it were hard pulls which Im hoping I can avoid through careful packing & gear maintenance. Got another question though: It seems while my main fits pretty well inside the d-bag (which came with the rig) the top corners of it can be seem peeking out between the top closing flap and the side flaps. Is this normal? Should the d-bag be covered completely? Keep in mind that I dont have a reserve in it right now so maybe that warps the container but it doesnt seem like the addition of a reserve would remedy the situation. For the record, the rest of the d-bag is held is fully encased and its just the very top corners that peek out.

I recently bought an '05 Racer to practice packing with until my custom voodoo comes in. I have all my other gear, however, and wondered why not just jump the damn thing? It fits me very well and my sabre2 170 is a decent fit for the container..everything seems ok. I've heard on the other hand, that the racer is one of the worst rigs out there and "friends don't let friends jump a racer". The gear reviews all seem to give it a thumbs up but nearly every item is like that I've noticed..it seems that people all like their own gear so I feel the reviews are bias. What are some of you thoughts on the racer? Have there been any incidents due to poor design or gear failure alone (excluding common malfunctions due to packing error & such)? Should I jump it?

haha I knew the risks before I posted...its ok man!

Statistically speaking, are women more likely to be involved in a skydiving incident than are men? The reason I ask is that while women make up a rather small percentage of all skydivers, the percentage of incidents involving a female jumper is seemingly higher. From a purely mathematical perspective, if women make up, lets say, 10% of all skydivers, than shouldn't 10% of all skydiving accidents involve a female jumper..all things being equal? Perhaps this really is the case and I'm just perceiving a bias but I'm aware of quite a few incidents the the injured party was female, apparently enough to get me to post this.. so whats the deal??

I'm assuming that's referring to the fact that most rounds arent steerable. If what I wrote above is true then perhaps the increase in reliability is worth the loss of control. I would much rather deal with landing off or even in some trees than have a reserve mal and smash into the pea pit face first..something to consider. What about steerable rounds?

Why don't more people use a round reserve. I may be talking out of my ass here but from what I know they're opening characteristics are more stable, theyre less prone to malfunction, and are aren't as sensitive to body position on opening. Plus, they are far more compatible in a two-out scenario with a ram-air. Like I said, some of what I wrote may be untrue..just going on what I've heard so please give your input on the subject.

having looked at it and read those links (thanks btw) it seems to have all the telltale signs of ripstop fabric. its an '05 canopy anyway so there's no way it could be of the new kind.
-
So I got my SMART reserve in a few weeks ago. Didnt even take it out of the box since I have no rig to put it in at the moment but when I took it out the other day I noticed that the fabric has a very odd texture to it...different from any canopy Ive even handled. Certainly different than my ZP (which is to be expected) but also different from a hybrid Ive flown and an F-111. It doesnt feel as synthetic and I can almost feel the fibers in the skin. Granted this is the first time Ive handled a reserve parachute but I just wanted to get your take on it before I ask my rigger, which Ill probably do anyway once my rig comes in.

not annoyed here..I love your enthusiasm! To answer your question about the dropzone you can look them up on here..just go to dropzones and do a search, youll find a ton of peer reviews, which is what really counts.

LOL .."want em old enough to think for thesmelves but not so old they forget what it was they were thinking about" ..and clearly he's gay..just look at that train set! Then can you gotta imagine the converstion with his kid.."I'm sorry your train set is wrecked son..daddy's friend, geriatric king kong, stepped on it right after he blew a load all over Penn station...oh and btw, we're out of crab meat!"

I wouldn't have done it. You have no idea who this person is, what he does, and why his lights are on in the first place. As someone said he could have left them on intentionally. Besides, I've heard too many stories of good samaritans getting screw over bigtime for going a good deed.

Ok, I didn't watch the video because its gonna piss me off to the point of blind rage but for those who did or know more about it I beg you to pm me with any information on the the motherfucker that's doing this or the people involved. I am not a joking and I'm not talking shit. I am going to find this fuck and bash his fucking skull in!

What's your take on this whole 2012 thing?

So you commend him for imposing his reckless, uninformed decisions on the world?? The only thing worse than a fool is a fool who doesn't know he's one. Clinton had his flaws but I would take him (or anyone else for that matter) over ol'dubbya any day.

which girl are you? ..either way pm me..Ill keep you warm

Ive jumped a few times when I wasnt feeling so great and not only is it alot less fun but I usually end up getting myself into some shit. Even something as minor as a lack of sleep the previous night can significantly impact every aspect of your jump in a negative way. Ive established for myself that from now on Im only jumping if I feeling top notch both physically & mentally. I can offer you the same advice.

Q: How do you keep a baby from crawling in circles? A: Nail his other hand to the floor. Q: How do you make an 8 year old girl cry twice? A: Wipe your bloody dick on her teddy bear. don't kill the messenger

Anyone else like hop n pops?
Megatron replied to TerminatorSRT4's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I personally am not a huge fan, esspecially the lower ones. I like having a good altitude buffer to play with in case the shit hits the proverbial fan, plus I really enjoy the freefall portion. Moreover, sub-terminal openings can be unpredictable as Ive had line twist twice after a hop & pop. They're cheap & quick though...a good way to build jump numbers. -
How about 2 on the step, 1 in the door, and 1 behind the strut with his back to the wind.

Does the risk eventually catch up to everyone?
Megatron replied to Megatron's topic in Safety and Training
well put...my recent thoughts exactly on the subject.
