Hi guys! TonFly Fuego Pro RCB Labs Dual Mount Sony CX7 with HypEye D Pro + Expansion Canon 350D with Conceptus Tongue Switch :)
-
OK, So I have a TonFly Fuego Pro, and ordered it with a box for a CX7 pre-installed. It therefore has five holes already drilled (four for the box and a fifth for the HypEye). I want to install an RCB Labs dual mount: http://www.rcb-lab.com/index.php/dual-mount However, I am concerned about drilling extra holes in the helmet. I need to drill at least four new holes (shown in red, second photo), and would like to drill a fifth for the camera screw to make my life a little easier :) I can imagine, with 10 holes in a relatively small area, the entire top surface of the helmet being ripped from my head on opening! What I am thinking of doing is putting a small 2mm aluminium plate on the underside of the helmet, and "sandwiching" the carbon fibre between this plate and the top mount.... Another concern is that the join of the carbon fibre is right under the top of the helmet, though I'm not sure if that's structurally weak... Look at the third image for these last two points. Thanks in advance for your ideas and opinions!

Are there, in your opinion, any other worthwhile uses for a leg wing cutaway? Assisting kicking out twists (assuming a heavily twisted but level canopy)? Flat spin? Anything else?
-
So how about the legwing cutaway?

Can you copy files from the internal memory to a card using the camera's menu system?

I am jumping a CX7 with a Royal 0.5x lens. The ONLY way I'm getting the damn thing to focus is to set it to manual, 0.1m (or whatever the closest setting is). Still seems to focus correctly on stuff at any distance like that.
-
How do you guys think I'd get on with my CX7 box, a couple of hours, and some black nasty/padding? I take it this will take a 37mm lens?
-
I jump a CX7 and it's excellent if: You fly flat. You can set up the focus properly. Unfortunately, neither apply to me.
-
Awesome! Where can you get these/how much? That's definately another option to look in to. I don't have a ZKULLS mount on the top of my helmet, it is just the standard flat top on the Fuego Pro. Is that OK? Cheers, Tom EDIT: Reinier, didn't realise it was you You got these in the shop?

Too wide for me too! Saw it a while ago, didn't like it then, don't like it now. Thanks for the post though!

Nice on Kev, cheers! Only thing is, I'm after a camera for taking non-skydiving photos (holiday snaps etc) first, to jump second. It probably won't go on my head for a while yet, but I'd like to learn more about photography and get some nice shots when I'm out and about. I think I've exhausted the abilities of my Canon compact! I'd love to have a look though! Cheers.

I've had another look and I am 99% sure the 0.5 will be fine. A 0.3 would be tricky... No plans to get a 0.3 yet anyway. I too hate spoiled video with a goggle elastic, lens, or worse still camera housing that moves about all over the place. My video is nice and clean, and it will be staying that way!
-
Thanks guys. Yeah, I had a look and I think I will be OK with my 0.5, but might run into trouble with a 0.3 I will double check.

Hi, OK so I currently jump a Fuego Pro with a CX7 topmounted (see first pic). If I wish to mount stills as well EVENTUALLY, could I mount it upside down in front of and below the video? I am looking at getting a Canon 350D or similar and want to make sure whatever I can get will be suitable for fitting in the future, if that's possible on this helmet. So I made a "camera" and plate, kids art and craft style, and put it on to see how it went. The "camera" is actually a little big - it's made to the MAXIMUM dimensions of a 350D - i.e. even though the cardboard box is the same height all the way across, the camera would be a couple of cm smaller most of the way aside from the bump where the flash is. So you could put a 350D inside this cardboard box - it's oversize. 3rd pic is "stills only" as a reference. Is it doable? Cheers, Tom

I'm just using a clip off a free keyring. Like an RSL shackle crossed with a karabiner.

I think he was talking to me? No offence, but maybe you should start a new thread - it's a pretty different topic and you might get more of a response in there. Thanks for the replies so far guys! I'm continuing to read all the old threads.
-
OK firstly... I have used search extensively, and read A LOT of threads, but most of them are a couple of years old at least. I'm not sure what has changed. Also I have a couple of other requirements. OK, so I am being asked what I want for my birthday from the lady and folks, and mentioned the idea of a stills camera - to mount on my helmet eventually. I have a compact at the moment and have wanted a proper DSLR for a while so I can get some nice holiday snaps etc. Now, I jump a Tonfly Fuego Pro, if you know it, and the camera would have to be mounted upside down on a plate in front of the flat part above my forehead... so it needs to be smallISH and lightISH (in SLR terms). (The mounting issue is to be discussed in another thread later). Also, money is an issue - it will probably be second hand from Fleabay. I use a CX7 with a Royal 0.5x lens, so will try getting away with the 18mm kit lens on the camera - good idea? Seems like I could manage it going on what other threads have been saying. Been looking at 300D, 350D etc. Any suggestions as to which is smaller and which has the best bang for buck? Don't flame me for posting this topic please! I know you've seen it 100 times Cheers, Tom

Hi sinjin, Sorry - can you explain how this works? Went on live.com, searched for a camera, clicked an e-bay link, didn't see any relevant info or anything. How do you know you are getting the offer? This could be because I am in the UK? Cheers, Tom -
Hi, I uploaded a video recently in full HD format, because I couldn't be bothered resizing and re-rendering it. Here it is in 720p on youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nUmJaqIzD_I&fmt=22 I think the difference is noticable! All my videos will be in this format in future. Sorry about the poor camerawork by the way, it was the first few jumps I ever wore a camera for

Hi there, How can I get to Perris from LAX? Timing are flexible, budget isn't. I can drive a hire car (I think? 21 years old...) but I really would rather not. This is for March next year. Cheers, Tom
-
Good advice, thanks. I think I will get a container that I can downsize with and stay on the 150 for another year (or until I can outswoop the big boys on their JVX all sails). Cheers, Tom

OK, so that's kind of good news then. I love the Sabre 2 and flew a Sabre 2 170 before this. Yeah, I'd already looked at the checklist! Happy it would all be ticked off before I jump a smaller canopy. The thing is, with the crap weather here in the winter, I'll only do enough jumps to stay current (1 or 2 a week), and then in the summer I'll get plenty in - this last summer I did over 200 jumps. I want to custom order my next container so that I have something that fits nicely and will last me. Therefore ordering now means it will be here for next season - waiting means I'll end up with 600 jumps and still have my Sabre 2 150 and far from great fitting container. I would, of course, not downsize unless I was happy. Perhaps I could order a container, then squeeze my 150 in it for a while.
-
OK, so I'm looking to order a new container, and when it arrives next season look at downsizing my canopy. I have 300 odd jumps, maybe 350 by the time the container arrives. It's hard to say what jumping I will end up doing but I think it's safe to say mainly wingsuit or freefly, all with camera. Currently fly a Sabre 2 150. Did Brian Vacher's course and have always really enjoyed my canopy flight, so I want something I can progress on. I weigh 180lbs all in (inc gear). Now, I know a Storm would be good - but I have two concerns. Firstly, and mainly, I would have to buy one new, meaning extra cost, which I cannot afford. I want to buy a second hand canopy with a couple of hundred jumps, and there are no second hand Storm 135s going round, especially not in the UK! Second, it's a 7-cell (although a good one at that by all accounts), and I want to progress with my canopy flight and have something to move on from. A 9 cell 135 to 9 cell 120 will be an easier and healthier progression than Storm 135 to a 9 cell 120, right? Like I say, I want something that will fly well now as well. Anyway, I can't afford one. So what do I get, that opens nice, but is going to be good for me to improve my canopy skills on? I'll be sure to be 100% confident and comfortable with risers on my 150 / talk to local instructors etc before moving on. Cheers, Tom Sorry for the long post...
