I put my rig in a backpack and just wore that. It got swabbed once but all the other times nobody even said anything. When it got swabbed, the guy at the x-ray was like what in the world this. I said it is a parachute. He ended up swabing the backpack. I told him the parachute is inside the bag but he just swabbed where the pull tabs on the zipper met up and was like ok your good with a confused look on his face. I was worried about having to get a repack, but I didn't even have to take my rig out of the bag!

I never question whether I should be skydiving or not. I could't imagine not doing this. I want to start base jumping though and that brings up a lot of questioning in my head. I guess we will see what happens at the FBJC. That bridge in Twin Falls is calling my name. I've never had any dreams about mals, my friend did have one about me.

Does anyone know about any DZ's in or around Bahrain. The closet I've found is in Saudi.

This guy is a genius! That means idiot right?

Burn! I like your style.

Heh, I know what you mean I am about to downsize myself. My canopy fits but it isn't as easy to fit in the D bag as I'd like. My 170 seems too tame for my liking now.
-
Whats wrong with learning to swoop on the canopy you have now?
-
What he said!

Don't play a guessing game with it though. I contacted the manufacturer and had a discussion. Turns out the guy I was talking to had the same container and he had the size canopy in his rig I planned on fitting in mine. Unless you have the money laying around it doesn't really make sense to buy a brand spanking new rig for your first rig. There is a lot of good quality gear people are trying to get rid of.

I bet it would be awesome to jump that Island. Good luck with getting back into skydiving. I can't wait to start up the jump season again. Winters in Washington State suck!

There is a cool video called Adrenaline Rush. Its an IMAX film from like 2002 that kind of covers this topic.

I am still on my first rig. I bought a rig made for one size down then what I was at knowing that the size canopy I was on would fit in the container. I can go through two sizes after I am flown out on my canopy I have now. Seemed like the wisest decision.

I packed two helmets in one suitcase before and everything was fine. One was a Zeus. That thing feels like it is about to snap when I put it on but all was well I inspected it.

Not Good. Their two otters had problems so out of my ten lift tickets guess how many I still have. 10! Not a cloud in the sky yesterday or today. I hate airplanes!
-
Yes, I am in the Navy. Forecast says sunny skies after fridays rain!

Cool, yup can't wait. Luckily I get to go to San Diego for Christmas and I am going to jump down there! I got 10 lift tickets in my wallet already! I'm gonna try and use them in one day!

Ft. Benning is static line. Which for the military is a round chute you can't even control from 1250' . Don't think I'd classify as skydiving. I've been there for the record, it sucks nuts.

Airport security and carryon parachutes....ugh....
halorob replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wish me luck because I am flying tomorrow with my rig as carry-on. I printed the paperwork but am still worried they will freak out. Maybe the fact that I am an explosive ordnance disposal technician will help. Or it could do the complete opposite and make them crap their pants. Yeah I think the quiet approach will be best. -
Seals do make up the majority in people qualified to skydive in the navy. Its part of their job description. PR's otherwise know as parachute riggers are the ones who maintain their equipment and provide training for them so they also get qualified if supporting a unit that skydives. EOD has teams that support the Seals so the need for them to be qualified is maintained. I haven't really heard of anyone other then Seals, EOD, and PR's skydiving. Basic staticline with round chutes might be a different story.

Just saying hi. New to the forums. I'll be jumping Kapowsin Airsports in Shelton, WA and skydive San Diego mainly, so if you jump there give me a shout! I jumped monday the 15th of DEC and my hands almost froze off. So i'll be at Kapowsin when it warms up It was cool seeing all the snow on the ground from altitude though!

I'm in the Navy! I don't think I would have ever tried skydiving until they made me do it and I get an extra 200 bucks a month for doing it. Now I am hooked though and its all I want to do.
