Sorry to hear that (about the being wrong part, not the ring part, lol). What ended up turning it into a nightmare? "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

You're doing pretty good, usually the stress creeps back up when you go to pay manifest! I've had maybe 2-3 stressful jumps, and they were usually AFF jumps where something was going wrong, but nothing that a beer around the bonfire at the end of the day couldn't fix. I'm sorry, which part covers a PIC relinquishing command of the aircraft to the autopilot? Here I was thinking that the PIC "is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of that aircraft." I know of no part that specifies that when the PIC flips Otto on, they have no more say in the matter. Fair enough, I misread that one. If only there were instruments that weren't linked to the pitot/static system... Maybe some kind of lever that lets one use an 'alternate static source' as well for the instruments that are. http://www.ntsb.gov/about/employment/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/brief2.aspx?ev_id=20040426X00510&ntsbno=MIA04LA070&akey=1 Also, interestingly enough, the plane wasn't even legal for IFR flight: So, that plane had no business even flying into IMC anyways. I'm not sitting here being a keyboard warrior saying I am a better pilot, I'll be the first to admit that I fuck up at times. Launching into low IMC in a plane that's not legal for IFR would be something that I wouldn't do. Launching into IFR with actual IMC without knowing how and where to activate the alternate static source would be another thing I wouldn't do. I'm simply saying that people appear to be taking more risks because of that little red handle. I think in most cases, the airplane is totaled. Cost prohibitive to fix it and return it to service. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

In Florida, you have to submit job applications/contacts as proof that you're trying. I worked in the unemployment office for a few months, some people have figured the game out so well that they were on perpetual benefits. That doesn't work well for a 747 either: http://ironmaiden.com/news/article/ed-force-one-damaged Well for these systems, it was actually a design plan that they would break apart to distribute the force and the operator would just put the pieces back together and replace a prop/pitot tube. Hell, they didn't even have landing gear! I would never suggest hitting a tug, those things look beefy. Well, I have mixed feelings about the BRS. In some cases like ditching into water or a full amazon type forest with no landing possibilities, sure... However you lose all control of the aircraft once you pull that shiny handle. I'd rather aim for something softer than a building and take my chances not hurting a bunch of other people who had nothing to do with my flight. I know the pilot has the say in what they do at that point, however I think that many times they just pop the BRS and hope for the best. I do believe that the Cirrus is the new doctor killer, not because they're bad airplanes, but because people bite off more than they can chew in them (just like they did with the V-Tail Bonanzas) and have the "I'll just pull the 'chute if it doesn't work" bug in their mind. Take this one for example. Pilot was ferrying a plane across the Pacific, ran out of fuel (flight planning, winds) and popped it. Sure, I see the benefit there, and the guy swam away in one piece... but would he have attempted the same flight with a non BRS equipped aircraft? (EDIT: apparently he had an issue transferring fuel from the ferry tank, so this one is probably a legit save) Hell, just look at the statistics here: https://www.cirruspilots.org/copa/safety_programs/w/safety_pages/723.cirrus-caps-history.aspx#CAPS_Event_Summaries Poor pre-flight? I'll bet this was pilot error. Confusing instrument behavior? At 1,200' in low IFR, you should be following the ILS/VNAV down. Pilot error? Severe icing is no joke. Hell yeah, good on the pilot for activating the BRS! Pre-flight planning? Pilot error, instrument rating? Pilot error Mechanical issue? I'd have to look closer on the report to find the cause. Depending on where they're at, an open fuel tank shouldn't be a BRS type of landing. All of these are my opinion and I know I'll get my ass handed to me on this forum for it. I doubt it, they've got quite a service range and time on station with the current platforms and for the smaller takeoff/landing sites, usually out in the middle of nowhere, they have other systems (which don't give the same time on station, nor are they quite as capable and completely unarmed) but they do let the guys in the field have a birds eye view in a lot of cases. Usually landing for them involves picking something soft and hitting it slow, I've even seen one that used the side of a vehicle to stop (though it was not suggested) without unexpected damage. Yes they do. Logging in to screenshot it on my account, I got this (attached). I've had AT&T for a while, since 2007 or so. I have Verizon on my iPad, so that I have connectivity when I fly into some remote airports on at least one of my devices. I've considered going to Verizon on my cell phone, but it sounds like the company is about to issue me a Verizon work phone, so I'll have both. (just what I always wanted to do, carry two iPhones) ETA: also, I still have unlimited data on my AT&T account, so I don't want to lose that either. Doesn't have to burn long if it burns hot. It would (probably) take a lot of heat to degrade the structural integrity of the airframe and cause an issue, but I am not sure how much heat the composite material can sustain without failure. I bet she'll be in bed before any shenanigans start. The boogie is actually pretty tame for the most part. Well, except for the guys who wear corsets to jump, but that's mostly just disturbing! No, Bolas wearing a kilt thong and then going low on the corset jump was disturbing, me wearing a corset was no where on that level... Yeah, mine is pretty firm as well, but I also had to put a lot of the bulk in the bottom to get the yoke to form around my shoulders better. I think the OP should just buy the right sized container since it looks like he's planning on ordering it anyways. The answer is, it depends. I've got a Safire-2 169 in my 348 and it's a pretty snug fit along with an Optimum-176 reserve. If you're a good packer, then you may be able to shoehorn a 190 in there, however then you have to think about reserve sizes. No point in getting a smaller reserve just to save some space. If you're jumping something in the 190 range, your reserve should be in that range as well and you should size your container accordingly. There is nothing sexy about an overstuffed rig and going up to a size that would accommodate your canopies better will look better and at arms length, you probably couldn't tell the difference in the .5" or 1" change. It will look better and be easier to pack. You may not be able to find a lot of places that are letting parts go without them costing a shit ton of money because they're usually banking that they have a part that you need to get your expensive ass airplane in the air again. Believe it or not, I've seen a LOT on Craigslist as well as the usual Barnstormers, Controller, AOPA (though you may need to be a member to see the forum), Pilots of America There's a ton other sites out there, but that should be a decent start. My cats aren't allowed in the bedroom at night. They can't fuck with me too much from outside the room (though they do find things to knock over at 2am occasionally). I also feed them when I go to bed, so they can't complain about being hungry when I wake up.
