  1. what are the symbols on the seal ? Also in which country is the rigger operating ? Which authority has licensed/certificated that rigger ? The symbols are our unique 3-digit codes. The FAA calls them symbols. For instance, my certificates with ratings (I'm actually not sure if I have 3 certificates or one certificate with 3 ratings, but I have 3 cards, I'm thinking it's the former): [inline symbol.PNG] There was an old copy of the symbols list around here but that is several years old by now. Looks like someone put it up on Google Docs: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4782293#4782293 I downloaded the entire database at one point, but I didn't really do much with it because I was being lazy. Maybe one of these days I'll make a searchable database if I can figure out how they had it all set up. I also recall that the seal symbol codes weren't present in that download so it may be something that has to come via specific requests. Edit: Found the CSV. 2. 180 days prior to the date of its use. The inspector can argue all he wants but that's the black and white book answer. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  3. Unfortunately when you're flying at the razors edge of either your or the aircraft's abilities, an engine burping could be catastrophic. Same thing with doing just about anything. Can I take off and climb out at a very slow airspeed in a twin? Yep... But if one goes or anything happens, I may not even have time to realize that shit is hitting the fan before it's over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr6iLRIN234&feature=youtu.be&t=28m13s Still a very sad time for the performance teams, I'm actually a little surprised that I haven't seen a safety stand down until they can figure out what's going on (though I am fairly sure that each incident is a different cause). 14. Not sure if I follow, would you care to elaborate? http://www.dropzone.com/forum/Skydiving_C1/Gear_and_Rigging_F6/SERVICE_BULLETIN_for_folks_with_hip_rings_P735166/ The link in that post is expired, so here's the new one: http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/Support/Rigging/09122RubberBand.pdf Sorry, I was incorrect on saying it was the MLW, that would depend on the ring type. 15. I'd be very careful about doing things like this. Something seemingly unable to damage the equipment can have adverse impact. A case of this would be the rubber band on the hip rings that were impacting the integrity of the MLW. Good luck, post back with your results or questions.
  16. Yep, buy an expensive pair of boots to wear just a few times... but they were SHINY. I think it's funny that around the time that we transitioned to ACUs with the tan boots, they stopped (to my knowledge) issuing the ankle braces at the basic airborne school. I jumped the tan issued boots and never worried about my ankles under a round. I also jumped with them maybe twice in skydiving and decided I didn't like them for running out a landing, and that was under a slow boat of a canopy. 17. Here's what I mean, with the dive loop: [inline dive.jpg] With the toggle: [inline toggle.jpg] When the canopy deploys, the toggle and dive loop do this: [inline open.jpg] Make sense? 18. Start folding them upwards when you place the risers in the container after packing it. After a few jumps they'll almost start to fold themselves. No modifications are needed and it's 100% free. It's basically the same way I pack toggles (usually on reserves) so that when they come out, you don't have to fiddle with getting your hands in there. If I remember to, I'll take pictures of what I'm talking about tonight. 21. Using a 3-ring like the Strong DH tandems is even cheaper and reusable without having to replace the loops every time. You just need some way to pull the cable.
