The service ceiling on a NEW 182 is 18100 for a naturally aspirated engine and about 20000 for the turbocharged version. Assuming that this is a 182, its highly unlikely that they routinely get to 18000 for a jump run. About how long did it take to get to altitude? Thanks for all of the responses, I think ive finally figured out what works for me. I do the s folds, straddle the canopy and kind of sit on it then work one corner of the canopy into a corner of the bag and the same for the other. It seems to work pretty well.. We jump a king air at west point and students use a check in, check out, up, down, arch(off) as our jump count. Im a new student (only 2 jumps AFF) so I could be wrong. I have been told that with line twists spread the risers and kick out, if this fails to work at 1000ft or above cut away and deploy your reserve. Basically I have been taught never to ride an unlandable canopy below 1000ft. When in doubt whip it out!
